Hands down Best. Cleaning. Video. Ever! Followed step by step and my 9 year old ps4 is running like new! Takes a while longer than the video but well worth it
I dont usually comment on RUclips videos but this video, this saved not only my PS4 but also my ears that have died listening to that crazy noise of the fan. Thank you so mutch! Amazing tutorial and also very detailed!
Great video super simple and to the point. My ps4 is 10 years old and has never been cleaned keeped on powering off do to over heating now it works great after cleaning. I never even thought about replaceing the thermal paste and none of the other cleaning videos mentioned it. Replaceing the thermal paste and dusting it helped a lot.
Man I feel like Like Steve Jobs disassembling and reassembling the ps4😂 I cleaned my brothers and mines at the same time and mines came out perfect but my brothers wasn’t starting. We thought we fucked his ps4 up but turns out the screws weren’t tight enough so the thermal pads weren’t touching lol. I felt like a dam genius figuring that out🤓😎😂
Great video my friend. Can I ask you a question about my ps4 old gen. It cut out playing a game and screen went all fuzzy then it switched off and won't go back on its like a power issue. I cleaned it all after that, tried another cable and still nothing. Do you think it will be fixable? Any advice welcome. Cheers
@@TheBrickie78 It could be several causes. It is difficult to judge what the cause is without further investigation. If nothing happens at all (no beep, no blue light, no beep When you operate the disc drive) it is usually the power supply.
So that power supply connection just came off for you just like that huh? Im an hour into trying to get it off and this ps4 is about to fly into the wall.
Now I know if the real reason PS4 was called Jet Engine because that Fan Noise which occurred due to dirty inside But... After cleaning, It sounds much quiter. Probably what I found from comparison with refreshed version, the OG One probably dirty inside, so that's why sound like Jet Engine 😅
If my thermal pads are falling apart, can i just put it back together and leave it be? And if i buy thermal pads does the size or color matter? Please and Thank you!
@@nm3k511 I misunderstood. I agree, screwing the ps4 back together could have been clearer. And indeed, I only show screw back 11. Good point. I try to shorten a lot so the video doesn't get too long. But this part is a bit harder to follow because of that. Thanks for your feedback, I will pay more attention to it in the next video. 👍
@@SpareTimeWorkshop Confirming that during unscrewing 12 torx screws part on the metallic plate during my 2nd dust clean (really just doing it to reapply thermal paste as it seems I applied not enough for the full length effectiveness).
I have 1 main question after seeing all this. I hear some people around me say when they cleaned their ps4s and put them back together the ps4 was worse.. either it was louder or would shut it self down saying to hot or the fan completely stoped working and they can’t find a replacement fan that even fits.. why would people be running into this after cleaning the dust out? My sisters man fried his original ps4 fan doing exactly this. How did he manage that? Any ideas what he did wrong?
Good question, I think the worse cooling is due to not replacing the thermal paste. If the thermal paste is not replaced, the heat transfer to the heatsink is no longer good and your ps4 overheats very quickly. I once had a message from someone who also had cooling problems after cleaning. In his case, the type of cooling paste was the cause (according to him). I use arctic mx4 myself and know it works well. I have never tried anything else myself. So from my own experience, I cannot confirm that the brand of cooling paste really matters much. I can only confirm that Actic mx4 works well. As for the fan, I don't have an answer unfortunately. Never had any problems with them myself. Maybe they break if you spin them up with a compressor with cleaning? But this is just a guess... Why you would clean your PlayStation there in the first place? Because your PlayStation 4 that is very dusty gets much hotter. Makes more noise and can eventually cause damage to your APU (the solder joint underneath), or a broken power supply. I hope I was able to answer your questions. Should you get started, please let me know how it went. If you encounter any problems, I will be happy to help you.
can i use any other type of alcohol that is not isopropanol? I have an alcohol-based screencleaner that might work. Contains non-ioninc surfacant and potassium sorbate.
Probably not right away. I have never tried it myself. But I recommend installing all thermal pads. Chances are, without the thermal pad, the chip cannot get rid of its heat and therefore your ps4 will malfunction.
@@SpareTimeWorkshopThx for the info. I have one more question if you don’t mind. My little brother told me that the ps4 started to make weird and scary sound and it overheats and turn off, so i turned it on to see, and after like 2 minutes it started to make a drill sound. It’s like the cooling fan contact with something idk, but the sound is really really bad, so I cleaned the cooling fan and the motherboard and changed the thermal paste (nothing else) and I turned it on and the same sound didn’t change if not worse. I even was in the home screen not playing anything and after like 5 few minutes it turned off. I am so confused like what could be the problem ?
@@xx_ksaforever_xx Of course you can ask a question no problem. Judging from your story I think the cooling fan bearing is broken. You can test the fan of your own ps4 in your brother's ps4. To see if the problem is then solved. Only that is quite a lot of work.

When rescrewing the heat sink, I noticed that 1 screw was left missing (11 out of 12). Had to count twice to make sure.
If I understand correctly, you have lost 1 of the 12 screws.
I don't think it will hurt much if 1 is missing. But I think they can be ordered online.

@@SpareTimeWorkshop thanks! I will
What do i use if i dont have that special screwdriver for the back 3 bolts?
I would get the right size screwdrivers before you start. Torx T8H, Phillips head PH0, PH1 and PH2
The PH2 is not always necessary.
Every time i turn on my ps4 the dvd/disk player makes some strange noise
Like its trying to dispense a game out without even a game being inside
