I'm 42, I listen to a whole plethora of music genres, but Jungle will always have a special place in my heart, you're spot on about the unity in the music.
I grew up in south London, I went into the care system in around 94, aged 13 and initially ended up in a temporary placement in Clapham, opposite the Winstanley estate.
I spent the summer with an amazing girl I met there, she played me a Brockie and Det tape, it was the first jungle I'd ever heard and I was locked.
She and her family were Jamaican and would cook out all summer.
That vibe was something that stayed with me.
Beaming sun, basement flat garden in Clapham, Kool FM always booming from Jamo 365s set up on two dining room chairs, bush weed, Red Stripe and banging food.
    Good times, good fucking times.

More than one genre to be honest:
A lot of old hip hop uses it, jungle (obviously🤣), drum & bass (again, obviously), breakbeat, breakcore.
      I’m sure I’ve missed a LOT.
      God bless the Winstons (AMEN!)

It was even more than this genre though, it was used in Straight Outta Compton and hundreds of tunes in 1990/91/92 before Drum & Bass had got going. One of the first proper D&B tunes I remember was Dead Dred - Dred Bass. Once that came along, it changed things!

Junglists salute! I haven’t written on here for a while but note a few negative comments recently regarding the frequency of advertisements on the video. I'm really sorry about this but it’s unfortunately out of my control. The record labels that own the music are monetising the mix (not me), hence the ads. A shame really as the music should be for everyone and should flow as intended buy hey ho. The good news is I just purchased a new set of 1210's so there will be more content to come once I’m back up and running! Whooha! XD

The sounds of a time never to be forgotten. Went to my first rave in 91. Didnt hear jungle until about 93. Spent the next 10 years of my life going to parties every weekend and I mean every weekend. I live in Florida and at the time the scene was vibrant. Drove up and down the state following the music, the culture and vibes. JNCO jeans, snow goggles on my head (but to the side), sun visor and comfortable large shirt and sneakers. We looked like freaks and we owned it. Really thought we were going to change the world. It was one beautifully enjoyed decade and also one profound waste of time 🤣 ....dont let the scene die.

I was a very late bloomer when it came to jungle. The beat patterns differ what made it unique and you can switch it on a dime.I first caught on to jungle back in 96 when Virgin opened up a mega music store at Times Square in NYC. I thought the arrangements were madness (mind blowing). The beats and sounds were sick (awesome). Only one station in NYC gave time to play jungle music was WKCR (Columbia University). The show was called Concrete Jungle that aired every Saturday night from 9-10:30pm. This was truly music for the underground.

Truly timeless. It’s incredible how intensely these take me back in time (good times and memories of her are just as lovely) It’s of my opinion that the only reason the gods haven’t wiped out humanity for war, greed, pollution, racism etc is because these dirty disgusting creatures created jungle. How sad that after the 90s raves disappeared. Never saw any violence/crime, and it always free. Now one of these pretentious ''festivals'' costs several hundreds euros? All the excitement is gone with these new generations... we had to know people, then through word of mouth you knew the locations (without mobile phones...), the euphoria of getting to a party and just being free, at that young age.... Can't really compare to anything today. Don't really have any freedom anymore with mobile phones, especially at young age. Just being outside in your early teens, and being free from your parents... with no contact/dialogue until you actually got back home, that was one of the best feelings of freedom i remember. Doesn't exist anymore.

TLDR: It 100% still does exist!
I never comment on youtube but have to make an exception here.
Gotta disagree with you on that one Simo, all across mainland Europe there's still a healthy underground free party scene!
There's parties to be found most weekends in France, NL, Italy, Belgium, Spain if you know your network ;) Warehouses, fields, bunkers, tunnels and many other places are still regularly descended on by anywhere from 100 to a few thousand people. Granted things have definitely changed over the last 2 decades, the crews and sound systems have had to adapt to their respective countries tolerance (heavy handedness) when the pigs are sent in to shut things down but it's an ever changing game.
I've lived in NL the last 10 years and seen the party scene become a lot more restricted here during that time but in the end when things are difficult here many Dutch systems just moved things a bit further south to link up with Belgian or French rigs at weekends and vice-versa.
It can still be a serious mission just getting to the party hahaha, sometimes the police manage to get there early and shut things down so there's often a B or C location put out over the info number at the last minute. Not so different to the 90's/early 00's really haha.
The organising and risks sound systems take is still driven by the same primal release from the ever increasing restrictions that govern our lives and peoples need for that escape is still strong. Over the years the free party community has been driven further underground for sure but it's still very much autonomous, alive and kicking!
Early Sunday morning when it's just getting bright enough to take in the wider surroundings...that feeling standing in front of a massive wall of bass bins, feeling every kick through every part of your body...looking around and seeing so many people there for that same feeling, no agro security bastards dragging people away for petty drug usage or not having a wristband/ticket, no cunt in a kiosk selling bottles of water for 5 euro, no fences or barriers. There's just nothing to compare to that feeling.
I have my own small system and become good friends with many sound systems over the years, helped set up/tear down hundreds of parties and violence has never been an issue, of course there's been minor incidents but nothing noteworthy, it's just not accepted or welcome and generally dealt with autonomously.
Modern day legal festivals are fucking cesspits in comparison, the amount of sexual assaults, rapes, robberies and fights that happen at the bigger music festivals these days is sickening. Factory farmed 'freedom' for the masses to drunkenly spunk spastic amounts of money at. Wherever you go in the world now the majority of big festivals have degenerated into demented cash grabs to milk as much money from as many people as possible and that mentality seeps all the way down through to the target ticket buyers. It's an invitation for every small town low level scummy drug dealer in a 500km radius to try get at the feeding trough and cash in.
At so many different festivals you encounter these little gangs of aggressive, alcohol fueled cretins roving the campsites starting fights robbing and ripping people off till they're, passed out, knocked out or hauled away by security. Of course free parties can attract people like this too but nowhere near the same level.
In my experience the self governing nature of free parties cuts the majority of that out. People look out for each other more and any dickheads there to cause trouble are fucked off swiftly. The main incentive for the people that make the effort to get to a free party is and always will be the party itself.
I love the free party scene, it's given me so much.
Free parties are the only environment where I get to experience being with so many people who, even just for a brief moment, are totally unshackled from the day to day grind and the rigid conforms society pressures us to live under.
It manages to simultaneously be the ultimate self release and the ultimate self retention (if that makes sense) all set in a sort of wild mad max alternate reality.
It's a celebration of life and the simple human need to socialize and connect with each other on some kind of long lost primal level and it's all done under the constant threat of arrests and court cases, confiscation of equipment and occasionally in the past, brutal psychopathic levels of police brutality ( Battle of the Beanfield, Czechtek 2005, I've witnessed police blocking off the back and side exits of warehouses before storming in from the front with attack dogs causing total panic and stampede resulting in people being trampled and others bitten in the arms and face by dogs)
This year has obviously been a shit show for just about everything....but the world of illegal festivals, teknivals, raves and free parties isn't extinct by any means, it's just hibernating ;)
Haha shit I didn't intend on my reply being so excessive hahaha now I know why I rarely comment on youtube!
but it's been a quiet shitty year as far as parties go, at least for me and writing this has really reminded me how much love I have for the illegal party scene and how much love the free party scene has given me. Big love and respect for all the people who make it possible.
Fair play if anyone actually read all of that haha.
Respect to all the G's and junglists out there
      Peace

Don't worry about the length, if people can't bother to read a page or less of something, they can go f_ _ k themselves honestly. If you have something to say and you want to articulate it, it's not going to happen in 2 sentences. If people have a problem reading just a page, they are the problem not you.

my 1st rave was ...on a big-ass riverboat in '92 ( I'm talking huge boat like 2.5k capacity) I had, literally only 4 days before, heard of it, head of anything like it ( I was punk/new/wave)...with "selective DJs, including DJ Disaster" ( a local NPR radio DJ I only knew from ONE....(1)... local broadcast)...and I literally, with no support, or knowledge, jumped in and showed up....and holy fuck. RAVER BOY BIRRRRTH!! If you weren't there in the early days.... you missed out. You "think" you made up for it when you were 19 in '01. Nice try, however... I'm old enough now to not disrespect any individual's click and connection but seriously.....chaos with a capital FUCK YEAH. AND it was that way for years (till at least 2002 in STL, Midwest, still vibrant, still bangin')
But I don't give a fuck what YOU think about those days...they were MINE....
