I brought mine in 1978 new, I paid £120 c/w with case, still have it, been playing it all these years and I am now 67 years old my DNA is in that guitar would never part with it. I have other guitars butI always love playing my old FG 340
If you find a guitar that you really like, yes buy it regardless of the ding. You will worry a bit less about dinging it yourself. Even with two identicle models, one of them will be more to your liking. If thats the one with the dent, buy it. Nobody likes dents but if the sound of the guitar really spins your prop (more than another guitar,) that's the one to go with. Otherwise, you will always be bothered by your decision.
Greetings. Could you tell me if the soundboard is spruce or laminate? If you know the specifics of the woods I would like to know a little more thanks. A hug from Italy...
Okay so I just went through this at guitar center ! I was in the market for a higher end Martin acoustic dread I wanted a d28 played two d28’s two d-35’s and a D18 one of the d-35s just sounded far superior than any of the other martins it has perfect high end mid range and bass response with perfect balance and punch . Only thing is it had three flaws only cosmetic . They took 10 percent off and I walked away with the D-35 that sounded the best out five other martins 😊 no regrets
Some guitars all sound the same and some have their own energy. I buy acoustics online, but I really prefer to hear how it sounds in my hands. Thanks for watching!
I would buy the guitar that was owned buy a Bluegrass musician. Obviously it is a guitar players guitar and every note played helps to open up the tonal qualities of the guitar as opposed to the exact same guitar that isn't played very much at all. Yep I would leap at the chance to get one, especially a Made in Japan Yamaha. They are the finest of instruments.
Hi, Can I seek your advice please? I just bought a Yamaha FG200 circa1973 (47 years old). The action at 12fret was over 5mm, I reduced it to 2.9mm. However truss rod is barely working. There is slight bow in the neck near the soundhole. Otherwise I am quite happy. I want to ask - As this guitar is old and neck is slightly bent, is it a good idea to loosen strings daily after playing to lessen the tension on the neck? Thank you for your advice. :)
To be honest, that is above my level of expertise. However, I would think loosening them daily is too much change on a guitar and would probably make whatever issue it has get worse quicker. I would just suggest lighter strings, and maybe adjusting the nut down a little. I’ve had a few like that myself, where it isn’t worth investing in a neck repair at this time. Hold on to it and maybe one day it will be worth the repair.
3:49 Not a whole lot of difference in sound? Are you kidding me? If you cannot hear it live as you play them, well, I CAN even through RUclips. It's a BIG difference.
Hi Brian,I am on the lookout for a Yamaha FG 300 nippon gakki,if you ever come across one in reasonable condition I would be interested..I live in Ireland but I oobviously cover the postage..
It's just too great of a guitar. Based on the Martin D-35. I would be interested to hear a side by side against that Martin. If you can find or borrow one I will subscribe ^^
In 1981 they were $200 with the case. I paid around $150 each. I sold the one with the ding and case for $250 and the clean one for $225. Might have been a little out of tune. I had recently strung one up, I recall. Thanks for watching!
Agreed my lord. One shall not playeth thyne instrument without a proper tune. I swear I tuned these before recording but I think the strings were too fresh.
Tune up please...the 1st and 2nd string need tweeking.

Thank you for echoing my thoughts!
Just bought a used FG-340 last week for $125. Case included. Like brand new. A little set up and strings and it's an amazing guitar.
These are great values that can still be found today just like you did. Way better than any $300 guitar in the store today.

Guys please where can I buy a FG 340/ FG 340 II? Help me. Thank you.
Nice reference guide friend, shows the trust😮
Glad it was helpful!
At the age of these Yamaha’s the necks won’t lay flat but they can be worked to play great. Dings don’t affect sound.
Yeah, this one had more damage than just a ding. Just trying to make the same point as you that feel and sound are more important than looks.
The Ding had more mid range to me, more depth. Played in??
Truss rod covers missing on both guitars, held on with three little screws. The 3 piece back is too cool.
My first guitar yamaha fg 340 40 years ago
Did you know how good of a guitar you had at the time? I was just a child back then.

Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching!

Good to hear. Sometimes sitting across from a guitar can give a more true sound than playing on top of one. Thanks for the feedback!
amazing how cheap these guitars are, and how pretty look and sound!
Couldn't agree more!

Will do. There is a FG-301 that just came up for sale on OfferUp, if you have access to that app?

How much were they in 81?i paid 120 for mine in 91?how much did u pay they sound out of tune?

They must have different type strings
Same strings…
Sir, thou would greatly benefit from tuning thy guitars before thou playest.

thanks. get a mic for future videos.
Yes, working on that. Gotta start somewhere. I’ve always heard, quick and dirty before perfect and never! Thanks for watching!
@@briansuniqueguitars Actually I thought the mic sounded pretty good.
Thanks for your feedback. Just the cell phone at the moment.
Tune your guitars man.
I could care less about cosmetics. A guitar should be chosen for its sound. Nobody looks at the bottom or back.
Exactly, but it can make the price drop a couple hundred.
