    Looks like a better colder weather tent that a summer tent, I've been looking at this tent haven't pulled the trigger yet. Very good review.

      I generally don’t do much summer camping, so I can’t speak to it for summer usage, but it has served me well in all other seasons. After having it awhile I’m still very pleased with the purchase! I appreciate the comment, stay well!

    Good video! I subscribed! I have both the Lynx 1 & 2. Very good tents for the money. I’ve used them on canoe, backpacking & truck camping trips with no issues what so ever. And yes! Finally a tent that really does fit in the bag!

    I just purchased the Koda 2 and am trying it tonight (backyard). This is my first use of a backpacking tent (previous experience with tents was car camping tents 20 years ago, the old big ones with the metal 2" poles), so hoping for the best. Also breaking in my new quilt & pads.+

    Great review! I think the clay/rust version is more expensive because it's more earth toned. Which makes more sense if you want to conceal your camp to some degree. Generally speaking, stealth is a form of security. Personally, being solo scouting/hunting 95% of the time, and having run into shady people in the mountains, I won't buy a shelter I can't at least make a half-assed attempt at concealing off the beaten path.

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  2 года назад

      Thanks for the feedback. I’m definitely on the same page as you, and have seen my fair share of sketchy dudes on the trail. One thing I always balance is the need for stealth and the need to be seen in case of an emergency. I usually leans towards the color schemes that will help a helicopter spot me if the $&1T hits the fan. But I totally see both sides of the argument. You can definitely pack for both though. I’m just always gonna pick the cheaper color option and don’t care what anyone thinks haha!

    Nice video , I was wondering how the blue and gray looked, I want the rust and clay one but I’m not paying the price difference, they are out of their mind for the same tent !!

      @PerformanceOutdoor  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yea I’m with you, I’ll totally pick color preference if the price is the same, but no way I’m paying more for the same tent! I really like the blue/grey. I also just took it out on a backpacking trip on the AT and loved it. It’s so nice to have a tent that breaks down easy when your on the trail

      That’s good, I am a hammock user like you I think I heard you mention, but would like a tent for another option here and there, I may be going back out to Colorado on the CT and a tent may be better or warmer option, thank for replying

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  3 года назад +2

      @@IndianHemlock yea I’ve historically been more of a hammock camper as well. But at the same time I’ve never had a nicer 1 or 2-person tent. If I was going solo and weight was an issue I’d consider a smaller backpacking tent but I definitely like all things Alps.

    I confused what I should get. I’m going backpacking next summer with my boyscout troop and wanted my own tent. My troop uses alps all the time. I’m deciding over the 1 or the 2. What do you recommend. I’m 6 foot 2 slightly over 200 pounds.

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  Год назад

      Go for the 2, less than 1.5 lbs more and you’ll like the extra space. I’ve solo camped with the Lynx 2 before and it’s great.

    I'm curious to see how you set it up with the ground tarp extended into the vestibule. I'd like to try that, but I can't find any videos of it first. Would be great if you post an update.
    Also before repacking it, it might help to roll the tent poles into the center of the tent. This protects the tent poles from bending when the bag is sinched tight. It also can prevent the poles and stakes from ripping or puncturing the tent and rain cover.
    Thanks for the video.

    Realy great review. I've been debating whether to get the 2 person lynx or the zephyr. Which one would you prefer between those 2? I'm almost thinking from the shape of the lynx that it would propel the rain or snow better. I did purchase the Teton Vista 2 quick but it leaks like crazy when it rains.

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Spekky! I can’t speak on authority on the Zephyr as I haven’t used it but I have really enjoyed my Lynx. Both are from Alps, so I have to think the quality will be similar and they’re priced pretty close. The one thing I didn’t see in pics of the Zephyr is vents that allow cross ventilation. They might have vents but I didn’t immediately see them when I looked at pics. Not a big deal to some but I really like to sleep with some ventilation. Really sucks to hear your Teton Vista leaks. I like Teton as a brand. Curious, where are the main points of water getting in??

    • @spekky9012
      @spekky9012 3 года назад +1

      @@PerformanceOutdoor the fly in general doesn't repel the water very well. As it rains on it, you can see little droplets forming on the interior side of it. Seems were leaking aswell. The poles that are assembled with the 'quick' device, creates a low spot where the water settles and pools there. At the top of the tent area. Hard to explain. I should've taken a video on what was happening.

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  3 года назад +1

      Totally follow. That’s lame, sorry to hear. Let me know which way you go with Alps!

    • @Blue_Goat
      @Blue_Goat 2 года назад

      Hi Speakky. I've got the Lynx 2 and Zephyr 1, 1.5 (old model), & 2.
      The Lynx is more comfortable for moving around and head room. You can easily move around, change clothes or do tasks. It's also a little better for cold weather. It has less mesh, which also means less visibility from inside. Also, it has the cross ventilation which much be opened/closed from outside the tent. The base shape is a standard rectangle so most brands of footprints fit underneath.
      The Zephyr is my favorite tent of all time. I like it so much I bought all sizes available. The best thing about it is it's waterproofing and strong weather durability. I've used it many times during storms on a small island. The most extreme test was once at a campground with very strong wind and rain. My Zephyr was literally the only tent standing after the storm. It was completely dry and undamaged. A few more differences: It's also kept dry by a waterproof bathtub bottom than comes up a few inches higher than the Lynx. The Zephyr has much more mesh which gives more ventilation. This is why the rain fly only has one vent. And why it is less suitable for cold weather. The base shape is a trapezium, so only the Alps brand footprint fits perfectly. It has less headroom to move around and feels much smaller than the Lynx. Also, the older models of Zephyr are not free standing. Stakes must be used. But the newest models have changed to a free standing tent.
      Vestibule size is approximately the same on both.
      Hope this helps.

  • @Wsmith247

    I would rethink how many stakes you use, you should at least stake out all 4 corners to get a better pitch.( Better separation of the inner and outer and tighter fly.) Plus if you use your guy lines you defiantly want the corners staked. But its good that you don't have to, im in the mountains and sometimes you cant get stakes into the ground.

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  Год назад +1

      Yea you’re not wrong. I’ve been surprised by high winds before and regretted only having 4. But that’s when MacGyver mode kicks in :) I’ve tied guy lines to rocks many times!

    Will a full soze air matress fit inside this?

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  2 года назад

      A full size definitely will, but you won’t have much room for gear on the sides. Maybe a little at the head if you scootch the mattress all the way down. In my opinion you’re better off with some inflatable camp pads. But if you want a full mattress that will work.

    ALPS Mountaneering is a Rippoff! I've seen people get this tent for so cheap, I think a video last year said under a hundred on sale but can't remember the link, this video says 125$ and it's currently sitting at 161$ "On sale" with a regular price of 200$!! What is going on?? Also the Blue one is cheaper at a regular price of 150$ and 140$ on sale, (I guess that clay paint costs 50$) the Green one (The one I wanted) completely disappeared. BTW these tents don't include the footprint, it's sold separately, other cheaper tents come with it, this way they can save weight and money while charging you more. I don't trust this brand, seems they throw a dice to determine how much their products cost that day :(

    • @PerformanceOutdoor
      @PerformanceOutdoor  3 года назад

      That was a solid rant, and I can’t say I disagree with you. Some brands are all over the map with pricing. I know people who use a site called Camel Camel Camel… yes that’s 3 camels, which shows an item’s price variance over time. Makes for better informed buying decisions. All that aside, I have had great luck with ALPS so far. But they certainly aren’t the only outdoor brand out there and I’ve been burned by some brands that I’ll walk away from, so I totally get your perspective! Stay well.

      @@PerformanceOutdoor Thanks! I've been having so much trouble finding the right tent for me.
      I'm looking for something I can carry in a hiking bag all day long. So 5lbs or less and 6 x 20'' or less that also fits 2 people and it's around the 150$ price range and has decent quality and water proof. So far nothing.
      I guess because it's summer most brands are completely sold out. I also can't afford a 400$ hiking tent. So far I've been closest to buying this one but I don't want to be ripped off :(
      BTW I just found your channel and love it! Thanks for making videos!

      Thanks I appreciate it!! I know what you mean too. There are lighter and more compact tents but the price sky rockets. I do so much research before a purchase that I rarely regret a purchase, and so far this tent has been a winner. Happy hunting! Also you’re the first to know, I’m putting the final touches on a new hiking pack comparison video with 2 packs from Teton, so stay tuned!

      I got the blue color for a discount. Only $65 instead of $119. The difference for me was its shipping time.
      The prices vary by color, especially on Amazon. But the prices are determined by the vendor, not the manufacturer. If you purchase it directly from the Alps site the prices are the same for every option.
      Also, Alps offers an Outfitter version of some models. It looks exactly the same, but has thicker coatings and larger zippers. The Outfitter versions are significantly more expensive.
