    Thanks for the info on those reels Tom. I just discovered this older video. In more recent videos it appeared that maybe the Kast King’s secondary drag volume decreased over time…is that what you’re finding?

      No change in the Kastking reels. The reels I've been using this year are Piscifun brand, although they look very similar to the Kastking reels. They are much quieter, and I had quality problems right out of the box. I don't expect them to last more than a year or two at best. I'm just going to wear them out and then go back to using my Kastking sharky reels, I really like those a lot.

    My sharky 111 3000 bait runner sheared off 3 of the 6 gear lugs on the reel handle after 15 fish. Kastking told me it was a weak design.I love the reel if they just made it more durrable. Sounds like it's about to be discontinued and hopefully replaced.

    Just got a 3000 size sharky 111 bait feeder for $34 shipped. I will put it to the test this spring. Wish I could loosen up the bait feeder drag a little more. It also isn’t a quiet reel when winding. But for $34 it is what it is. I’ve read several reviews on Amazon about broken seats and also flexing to the point users had trouble winding them. I just inspected the seat on mine and it flexes just like my Abu Garcia SX’s which only have max drags around 7 pounds. The sharky has 2.5 times that. A design flaw imo. If the drags were lighter I’m sure the sharky reels would all be in one piece yet.

    I have the okuma and kastking. I have to say I was skeptical of the kastking at first but it cast well. Did you say the model # in video? I have the 5000 on a 9foot ugly stick. I have bait alarms now so they solved the volume issue for me.

      I have the 5000 size. I prefer a clicker and bells over electronic alarms. When I'm fishing, the last thing I want to hear is some electronic beeping noise. Just a personal preference. Thanks for watching!

    Hopefully your reel screw that holds on your reel handle doesn't come lose every fishing trip after fighting and reeling in a few fish. I have had my sharky for over a year or about a year and it is loud but will it hold up. It is the louder one which is nice. I love the durability and longevity of the okuma I have 3 of them. But it's a quite bait clicker, which is annoying cause it's supposed to be the key function. I love my Sharky so far, except for the cap screw that tightens down the handle that allows you to switch to left or right handed. I mean I've tightened it almost as tight as I can without breaking it and it comes loose every time. And I've tried a few kastking reels and they've been doggcrapp except the Sharky it's been the only one I've had that I've liked so I hope I get a few more years out of it because it's so much louder it's smooth and I love that it has two spools that I could use one for braid one for mono

      I haven't had any problems with the reel handle coming loose but I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks for the heads up. Lol I don't buy a reel because of sound. Kastking was only sold on line they were a cheap reel. I still can't find any in my area stores that will sell them, tends to tell you something. Now they priced them like there top of line 😆. I put 2 of these reels in trash in a month sad a 30 dollar marathon outlasting them. You get what you pay for but not in there case.There reels were sold under many names. Before the price hike. If it was the last reel I could buy to stay fishing I would quit fishing. before buying it. Happy fishing guys and gals.

    Just seen one of your comments on electronic alarms so fair enough go with what works for you, nice size carp you catch they all look naturally wild carp .... long and slim And i suspect they may be quite old to attain 20lbs plus in weight. Not like the huge pot bellied carp we have here in the U.K. that attain weights of 60 lbs plus on a continuous diet of high protein boilies. Like your channel not complicated and lots of good info.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  3 года назад

      Yep, it's only wild carp here. Don't get as big, as being a 60lb pot bellied fish is not very conducive to survival in the wild. My biggest challenge to finding big fish is to find water bodies where the bowfishermen haven't already killed all the trophy size carp. It's a different world here. Thanks Les!

  • @lesgriffiths9557
    @lesgriffiths9557 3 года назад

    Can’t understand for carp fishing you don’t use an alarm like we do in the U.K. any bait runner will work and you can adjust the volume and tone.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  3 года назад +1

      Here are some reasons why I don't use bite alarms.
      1. When I'm fishing, the last thing I want to hear is an electronic beeping noise. Just a personal preference.
      2. We don't have manicured shorelines in most places I fish. Most places require hiking through tall weeds over rough ground to reach the water's edge. Hauling a wagon load of gear is not an option. I only bring the gear that is absolutely necessary, as everything must be carried in on my back.
      3. Simplicity. Bite alarms are just another piece of gear that must be set up, taken down, maintained, fixed, replaced. I like to keep things as simple as possible.
      Nothing against bite alarms or people who use them. They just don't fit with the type of fishing that I do and my personal preferences. Thanks for watching!

    I just ordered a kastking based on this review. I wanted the 5000 but had to settle for a 6000 as it was all they had in stock. It will be paired with a Berkley Big Game rod until money allows for a better rod. I have been thinking about switching to a bait feeder for a while. I've already lost one rod and reel to a carp pulling it into the water this year. Hopefully the bait feeder reel will save me from losing any more gear.
