Love the General, stands tall and proud. The unit still looks brand new. Built tough back in the day. Good to see the farmer keeps his equipment in pristine condition. The person driving it is doing an excellent job. Sounds like a big Cummins under the hood.
I agree. Sounds great with the straight pipes, and the guy's a great operator...unlike too many drivers you hear crashing through the gears these days.
That's a sharp looking General on the hopper bottom. One of the local big farmers dumped their 4 Deere combines for 4 Claas machines last year. I guess Deere's machine wasn't as good anymore.
bigtractorpower, yes the rims were the same color as the orange on the truck. But yeah the truck was so original looking it was like going back in time. It was also a farm truck.
Greetings from the Ohio Porters. Yeah, I’m back in 2021. It’s almost summer. I remember seeing these Generals at the dealership back in Huntington, WV at Steiner’s. Such sweet looking trucks. 🥰 I really like to look these rigs over when I see them. Most had Detroit engines, but I’ve seen a few with Cummins. I missed out on buying one years ago...no engine or drivetrain, but I had a Cat engine that would’ve fit right in there. My loss. What engine does this rig have in it? Nice rig. 🥰
It used to be that the guy hauling the wagons had a lot of downtime between dumping. With these 2 beasts cranking out the grain, he must never get a break!
it just occured to me how huge the engine air filters would need to be to keep from clogging before you even got the field cut.considering your basically creating your own dust storm.
the farmer wasted his. money with 20inch rows only giving him 200bu to the acre, we in NY get 210bu per acre on 30inch rows, less seed and felt. to sped.
the trucks are weight restricted to 80 thousand pounds gross weight. That is distributed 12 k on the steer axle, 34k on the drive axles (2 axles) then either 34k or 40k on the trailer depending on if it is closed up (34k) or spread (40k). It allows for the weight to be spread out over distance to help preserve the integrity of bridges. A air operated tag axle can be added to the tractor and the trailors if weight restrictions are suspended for agriculture during harvest season. Some states (Michigan) operate land trains with multiple axes and double trailers and associated higher weight limits. Those trailors arent generally used on soft ground in a grain field off road
Fergal Murphy : As an AMERICAN, I very often asked myself that very question. A triple axle trailer in "my" opinion is far more STABLE on the road ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED ! As it is right now, when riding along the U.S. highways, I ask my buddy to stay BACK or PULL AHEAD, of these behemoths. If something goes wrong and the driver has to cross on to our lane........AIN'T NO WAY IN HELL, WE IS A GOIN' TO SURVIVE, the FLATNIN' 😱OUT ! Can you believe that here are some companies that STILL use SINGLE AXLE HEAVY LONG trailers in the U.S. ? ( "Old Dominion" ). Very, Very, POOR trailer stability in my opinion. Short trailers maybe, but HEAVY LONG trailers ....."NO" !!!!!! 😨 Drive Safely ALL ! 😊😋😉
Besides age and some updates...not alot. They're both Claas machines but the 500 series Lexion combines had Cat badging on them while the new ones do not.
in my opinion the 5 star general had more class and a much better look to it than any peterbilt that has ever been made all you see on youtube is somebody rebuilding a peterbilt like it the only truck ever made iam sick of peterbilt they are not that impressive to me the general was more impressive and could stand more abuse than them over rated peterbilt could
The General is by far more impressive than the claas

It’s the coolest truck I get to see in the field each year. I hope to do a ride along video in the General some time.
I agree. Sounds great with the straight pipes, and the guy's a great operator...unlike too many drivers you hear crashing through the gears these days.
That's a very sharp looking & sounding truck. Those combines are massive looking rolling across the field.
Gorgeous unit!!!
Love how it stands tall and proud!
what a fantastic looking general I sure miss those trucks wish I had one but nowadays there are hard to find true classics

Lots of cornflakes. I can't eat them anymore they don't taste the same.
That truck is really sweet!

I saw a GMC General like this. Same paint except it had orange Dayton rims and was pulling about a 70s or 80s Fuehauf dump trailer.
Awesome truck. I bet the orange rims stand out.
bigtractorpower, yes the rims were the same color as the orange on the truck. But yeah the truck was so original looking it was like going back in time. It was also a farm truck.

That semi is pretty dang cool

Love the 5 star General beautiful truck
Me too. It’s a cool truck.
love the truck.:)

This farm has several semi trucks. They are always on the move keeping up with the Lexions.
what kind of transmission does the General have
One cool General...still has nice colors.
This is the coolest truck I see each year during harvest on the many farms I visit.
Awesome truck!!!
It’s my favorite to see each year.
Ive got a gmc general we use it for gravel grain and hay it has a detroit and alot of power
The GMC General is a cool truck.
bigtractorpower i live in north dakota and its just amazing truck to have around we also have a ford L9000
cool vid! was hoping maybe that general was gonna have an 8v92 buzzing under the hood
That would be extra cool
it just occured to me how huge the engine air filters would need to be to keep from clogging before you even got the field cut.considering your basically creating your own dust storm.
Daily maintenance is important.
the farmer wasted his. money with 20inch rows only giving him 200bu to the acre, we in NY get 210bu per acre on 30inch rows, less seed and felt. to sped.
sorry you didn't say grain trailers. It is more than likely you don't more than two is because of weight restrictions.
The general wanted to be a pete, never possible. Man general felt like the doors were going to fall off.
The general stole the show
This is by far my favorite farm truck.
+Bigtractorpower have you ever been to North Carolina
Not to film equipment. It would be an interesting area to see I am sure.
What was running out the field in front of the combine
A rabbit.
Almost eaten by a CAT
Very good come back. lol
Maybe a pheasant??
Squirrel
lol what are ya gonna do when one of those claases break down. you dont have anyone to work on em
To the distillery?
Most likely the local ethical plant.
Why do all American Lorry trailers only have two axles
You haven't seen many American trailers if you are saying they only have two axles!
canvids1 have never seen a tri axle grain trailer in America
+Fergal Murphy depends on what part of the country diff states have different weight regs and how many axles u can legally have

What the difference the to combines.
Besides age and some updates...not alot. They're both Claas machines but the 500 series Lexion combines had Cat badging on them while the new ones do not.
Brian Helgeson thanks.
Best be brushing the chaff off the bug screen on the radiator, or they'll cook that Cummins.......sharp old 5-star General.
+Chris Stewart it is s stand out Truck.
in my opinion the 5 star general had more class and a much better look to it than any peterbilt that has ever been made all you see on youtube is somebody rebuilding a peterbilt like it the only truck ever made iam sick of peterbilt they are not that impressive to me the general was more impressive and could stand more abuse than them over rated peterbilt could
The Chevy bison was better
They were the same truck just different emblems
