I was raised LDS, served a mission from 2012-2014 in the Idaho Boise Mission (Idaho Nampa Mission), attended BYU. In 2018 I joined Community of Christ, and am currently a Priest in Community of Christ and serving on the Pastor Team in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin congregation. I would be more than willing to have a meaningful and respectful discussion about the similarities and differences between these two Mormon denominations. It is so important that we understand each other, and make a greater effort to work together as siblings in the Restoration.

@@SaintsUnscripted I am a Saint from Community of Christ as well. I'd be happy to talk to you too and if you are interested in meeting Saints from other sects a few have ecumenical LDS meetings. I go to two of them. Brighamites, Josephites (CofC and Restorationist branches), Strangites, and I believe Cutlerites too. always interesting together and talk the Book of Mormon together. not on insta really but can send a dm.
I joined after investigating and being called of the Spirit to join. Talk about the Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning. I felt just like that,
Oh BTW. Brigham Young didn't initially call himself a prophet, post split after Prophet-President Joseph Smith Jr.'s assassination. a lot of sects were vying for Joseph Smith III to come to their part of the LDS movement. Brigham wanted him to come to the Utah saints, but JSIII didn't trust that. I would imagine the relationship with Brigham Young was antagonistic. Emma and Brigham hated each other (totally read some of the written stuff. it's bad. idk how Joseph Smith Jr. handled that.) and JS III had some personal bad experiences with him as well. he felt called of God to join and be the Prophet President of the "New Organization"/ The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Community of Christ). History of it is fascinating and each sect has it's own version(s) and unique paths.
Big reason for our split was polygamy. Many in my church think Joseph was never a polygamist. Not everyone, and they don't teach that anymore, but what people think is split.

In 1976 I was baptized into the RLDS. In 1985 I and many others withdrew our membership from the RLDS when Section 156 on women in the priesthood came out. We also left when the temple was built using the wrong design, built in the wrong place and built for the wrong reason. Several seventies withdrew also losing their pensions in the process. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God with some of the seventies and in a few years left that church also for various reasons. Being a seventy myself and along with another seventy we organized the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God. We are unincorporated and continue to meet in the homes of the saints waiting for the return of Christ.

@@darlenemartim9972 OP told you what Latter Day Saint church OP goes too. The Church of Jesus Christ. Sidney Rigdon and William Bickerton are Latter Day Saint leaders. After Joseph Smith Jr's assassination, there were many different people who though that they were called/appointed to be the next president of the Church. So your church probably followed Brigham Young, HQ in SLC. my church brought many of the scattered Saints together led by Jason Briggs and Zenas Gurley, Emma Hale Smith and Joseph Smith III joined them and JSIII ordained to Prophet, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our HQ is in Independence, Missouri, James Strang claimed have a letter from JS Jr and said he was appointed by an Angel, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (note the lack of dash and capital "D") is the church he founded. Their HQ is in Voree, Wisconsin.
There are a lot of Latter Day Saints, and the history has a common starting place but schisms and diverges into many different paths. quite fascinating really.

Life-long RLDS and I have met Hedrickites (Church of Christ (Temple Lot)) and the Bickertonites and the Utah LDS. Most Latter Day Saints outside of the Utah headquartered organization do not care at all about secret "temple rites" for the dead. Traditionally, RLDS practice and doctrine is the same as the original Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kirtland, Ohio, in the 1830s. This is continued today in the various independent restoration branches and use the Inspired Version of the Holy Bible, the RLDS 1908 Edition of the Book of Mormon and the RLDS Book of Doctrine and Covenants.

we don't do tests of faith, so members have a wide range of beliefs. i can personally say that everytime I give a sermon/talk, I use the Book of Mormon. (except that Sunday where I was explaining the fullness of a section of the D&C)
Also Community of Christ really really loves the Doctrine & Covenants. We usually use the Doctrine & Covenants a few times per service tbh. my worn D&C is in front of me right now. ours is currently at 165 sections. the most modern revelations from God through the prophets are there.

    Regarding comments at 12:30
The LDS church is actually a corporate conglomerate. Behind the religious front are dozens of companies earning hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
At the top of the corporate pyramid are two holding companies, the Corporation of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its subsidiary, the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop. The latter company primarily holds the church’s non-profit enterprises such as educational institutions and charities, as well as the global management of the church’s buildings and grounds. Joseph Smith III and other early RLDS leaders like Mother Emma Smith, and Brother Zenas Gurley, reorganized the church by gathering the scattered Saints that didn't go west. so that's where it came from. i think that's worth remembering.

I’m an Israelite and there are different types. We believe the same thing on somethings but don’t agree on other things. A few things we all believe Is yes we are the Israelites from the Bible by blood 🩸, we’re not a religion and we must keep the laws of the Bible. That’s only a few.

The apostles regretted not trusting their heart when they thought it could be Jesus they saw as resurrected and said did not our hearts within us burn? They realized the spirit touched their hearts. We also need to have a mighty change of heart, a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
Matthew 22 thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.
And on and on and on.
Our hearts are only deceitful when they are set on the wrong things. When they are set on God and serving him, they support our faith.
By the way, we believe he tells us in our hearts AND our mind. They work together. God works everything by two witnesses in this case, the heart and mind.

Our feelings tell us one thing, even when deep down we know the truth. The Bible says to not trust in the mind as well (mind and heart are synonymous. Just read Proverbs 28:26. The Bible says if you do, you are a fool! Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above ALL things and desperately wicked, who can know it?" Or how about Matthew 15 when it says, ""For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander". Or maybe even Ecclesiastes 9;3 "The hearts of people, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live".
Are these the "other scriptures" you are suggesting that i'm ignoring? Your heart and mind trick you, that is why we are instructed over and over again to not FOLLOW the heart and mind. You are suggesting making your feelings the father of the thought, when we are instructed to follow and trust WHOLLY and COMPLETELY FIRST. We invite Jesus Christ into our heart to take over our life. That is where the HOLY SPIRIT (God) dwells when we TRUST Him FIRST. There are more Biblical scriptures if you need them, but please don't make the mistake of thinking IF you feel good then it must be good. I'm sure when Abraham was getting ready to sacrifice his son Isaac, he didn't FEEL good about it, but he obeyed. That was God testing Abrahams FAITH. Hope this helps!

To be accurate, there's only 1 Christian religion, which stems from Judaism, which stems from the original priesthood beliefs and practices of: Abraham, Enoch, Adam & Eve. And there is NO such thing as mormonism, of any kind, it's: the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ or just: Restored Gospel. There are MANY sects of Christianity and sects of the Restored Gospel but only 1 sect truly has the priesthood of God: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Joseph Smith ordained all of the twelve apostles with the keys of the priesthood and the church of Jesus Christ and clearly told them that when he's gone, a quorum of the Twelve have those keys and that the senior apostle presides over the church, which is exactly what happened when senior apostle Brigham Young explained this to the church and received the vast majority of confirmations. Sydney Rigdon knew he had nothing and James Strange was an obvious fraud and all of the other splinter groups are just fooling themselves and not accepting the facts and truth. Please AVOID the word Mormon unless you're referring to the Book of Mormon or the prophet or general Mormon.

Well in this specific case, it’s because the term is accurate. A mormon is anyone who believes in the Book of Mormon, as they said in the video, there are 88 different mormon churches. We call ours the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because it’s Jesus’s church, not Mormon’s. However, the Church of Jesus Christ still follows the teachings of the Book of Mormon, so it’s still a part of the theological movement of Mormonism, just like those other 87 churches.

@@hollyodii5969 Look, I get it, I almost never use the term either unless there’s a specific reason to. One of those rare cases is when talking about other churches that believe in the Book of Mormon. We can call that collection of churches represents Mormonism. We wouldn’t call it Christianity, that’s not specific enough. And we wouldn’t call it Church of Jesus Christ-ism. That’s too specific and takes away the special position our church has as the only true and living church. We shouldn’t share that title with other churches. So calling other churches that believe in the Book of Mormon, mormon churches. Is perfectly fine. We shouldn’t make the word mormon taboo, the prophet Mormon was a great dude, and there’s nothing wrong with saying that people who follow his work believe in Mormonism. Similar to how Christians, Jews, and Muslims are collectively known as Abrahamic religions. I wouldn’t like people to describe me as an Abrahamist instead of a Christian, for the same reason I wouldn’t want people to only describe me as a mormon instead of a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. Isn’t because it’s inaccurate or not useful, but because it focuses on the wrong thing in that specific case.

In a book I have, the author claims:
    1. The "Mormons" say the Christian church broke into many churches and that's why they're wrong.
(A gross misunderstanding or intentional misportrayal, but, okay.)
    2. The "Mormons" broke apart into many churches, too, so THEY'RE wrong.
(Not exactly how it works, but, okay.)
    3. Meanwhile, genuine Christianity, in any Christian church, is true Christianity, because reasons.
So, "we" make a dubious claim on Christianity, this guy both denies that claim BUT uses it AGAINST us and that's okay.
If "Because A split into A through X" means A through X are all invalid, then the ONLY way to have true Christianity today is for Christ to restore it and then no one breaks away for any reason ever.
In EVERY claim, one must look at where/how it started and how it maintained since. Take an objective look at determining truth, as far as we can know it, in terms of order and function, and go from there.
Many are most break-aways essentially deny the very initial authority which started their parent church and offer no real claim for authority of their own.
