Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain. I just wanted to say I consider many of your videos, B roll especially, to be eye candy, very well done, and highly interesting. Also, your journaling videos are refreshingly introspective and relatable. I enjoy them most of all. Lastly, when you spoke to the closing down of a favorite typewriter shop as well as a meat specialty store that was a tradition for holiday meal purchases you said something off the cuff that was profoundly moving to me after a most devastating personal loss, "Life changes and sometimes you're at the end of your own history. It's not so much that you die, it's that the world around you dies first and then you just don't belong in it anymore. You've outlived your world." Anyone who has the good fortune to be many decades into life can appreciate how very well stated that was. While we are grateful for all the new and exciting changes, additions, and opportunities that enter into the various chapters of our lives, there is something very touching to how you described the bigger losses of that which is most meaningful to our own connections with our personal history.
It was Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) famously endorsed Conklin pens in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He praised their durability and innovative design, particularly the crescent filler mechanism, which was a standout feature of Conklin pens. Twain even referred to the Conklin pen as a pen that “takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’.”
It is Mark Twain. About the Conklin Crescent Filler: „it cannot roll off the desk.“ Your Conklin reminds me about the Blue Grotto on Capri in Italy. So nice!
As usual a fantastic friendly conversation MR Jones. I have a Conklin Mark Twain demo is on my desk and I'm looking at it everyday, should use it more, 1.1 stub on it. Great with red and blue inks.
The Atlas team is wonderful. It brings me great joy to be a mod on their discord. I look forward to meeting you HJ at the Sidewalk sale this year. I plan on going to it and the Chicago Pen Show.
Great show again! Thank you very much. The name for the giveaway is Mark Twain. I read some of his books. Something completely different compared to the European authors I use to read the books of.
Hi, wonderful show. In the old days of english there was no set spelling for words, it was up to the writer and people accepted it, I think they were great times.🤔🦘
I was caught by your comment that it looked like the universe. That would be the favourite finish of Inkquiring Minds’ Doug. I am also married to a Brit and I get the reference. Lovely pen.
Mark Twain used a Conklin Crescent Filler. Thanks so much for your wonderful content. I am new to pens and journalling and it is a life changer. I am inspired by your amazing positivity.
And the answer is: Samuel Clemens also known as Mark Twain. I grew up in Quincy, IL, just across the Mississippi River from Hannibal, MO. As a boy we visited Hannibal often especially for the annual fence painting event. The Mark Twain Museum there has a number of Samuel Clemens artifacts including his typewriter. I don't know if they have his Conklin pen. Thank you for the effort you put into your Thursday videos.
Mark Twain! Thank you so much Hemingway for all the information you provide in all the videos. I have learned so much about FPs since I started watching the videos!
Mark Twain was the spokesperson for the Conklin and the answer for the Conklin giveaway! My late father was a lifelong educator and reader and he always said, return to Mark Twain for lifelong lessons that should be followed and A.A. Milne with Winnie the Pooh and Friends for lifelong lessons to read to your children as soon as they are born and beyond. So in the spirit of Mark Twain, I want to thank you for the chance for the Conklin giveaway and I want to wish everybody the best of luck. That is the truth so I won’t need to remember anything! Another wonderful video, as always! 👍🏻
I really enjoyed this Tuesday's live program. Beautiful pens! I've never seen a glass Dip on a button pen body! Intriguing? I'd love to see you use it.
Hello there, watching the reply as I missed the live. We have a LOT of snakes around where I live. In fact back in October last year I had an Eastern Brown Snake (very venomous) go across my feet at the beach 😬 Was it Mark Twain for Conklin? I remember something about him liking their crescent filler pen. Quite a beautiful looking pen, the folk at Atlas are very generous. Love your new Waterman Carene - stunning!
Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemons Impressive paint job and good color choice. Love seeing your videos and your library is amazing! Thanks to Brenden and you for your generosity. Jonathan Brooks resins are my favorites
Samuel Clemens, Hem ... our beloved Mark Twain! And, what a beautiful pen which you are giving away ... congratulations to whomever (even, perhaps, this old man) is the lucky winner! Enjoy it in good health and in happiness!
I have a different color variant of that exact Conklin in broad. After feeling ripped off by esterbrook, immediately went over and bought like six Conklins.. if not for any other reason than to show people in every pen group I’m in what the my COULD get for the money that they’d be wasting on an overpriced dud Esterbrook.. and I do like the way Conklin both looks and feels in hand, especially the all American, which can be bought very discounted. The Conklin bibs weren’t perfect and needed a tiny bit of tuning, which was still better than my Esterbrook experiences for less than half the cost.. and to be honest, just as beautiful. I even Like the little swivly clip. My 1898 tho did write great out of the box. I forgot I had it. I’m glad you posted this. Imma ink that bad boi up for work this week!
Mark Twain endorsed Conklin's crescent fillers because the crescent serves as a built-in rollstop, saving him from uttering profanities. I have one of their new crescent fillers and I appreciate how they modernized an oldschool design. Crescent fillers aren't for everyone, especially with their limited ink capacity compared to other modern pens, but I just think they look really nice. I was lucky enough to get one off ebay in a discontinued green and black acrylic. Some of their other designs look really nice, but I'd recommend holding the metal ones first before buying. I held a metal model when I visited Atlas Stationers and it was very heavy compared to the acrylic. Beautiful resin on that 1898. I'd expect nothing less from a collaboration with Atlas.
Great show! I always enjoy watching your lives. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, aka Mark Twain, originally endorsed the Conklin Crescent fountain pen in the early 1900s. And it would be so cool to see an original pen that he owned. 🖋🖋🖋
That would be Mark Twain. Love your videos as there is always great entertainment and conversation along with the pen and ink reviews. Glad I found your channel.
Mark Twain endorsed Conklin and was a great fan. I have known this for years, before I became interested in fountain pens, but I have no idea why🤔 Maybe from some game show or an English class at university? I have to say that pen is lovely💕 I have been eyeing it for a little while now. That blue is mesmerizing. Atlas is just the best and it was such a magnanimous gesture to send it to you, and in turn for you to offer to one of your subscribers. See you for the debut of Snakes on a Pen.
Hey! Mark Twain endorsed Conklin. I love the Conklin, the material is beautiful & if I had it, I would install my Pilot 742 fa which I did a custom grind for. It's my favorite drawing tool & speaking of that, I would love to draw with that Murano glass nib! Thanks for the vid & I hope you are well!
Samuel Clemens was the writer who endorsed Conklin Pens. Like your study even before you painted it. I find myself trying to read the titles of the books behind you.
Samuel Clemens endorsed Conklin's Crescent filler fountain pen, and in his honor, modern Conklin has named its crescent filler model the Mark Twain. I prefer vintage Conklins, but have 3 Mark Twains, two of which are gorgeous sterling silver pens. As for snake pens, I have an original early Waterman's #46 with it's original box, papers, and sterling silver snake clip.
Mark Twain all the way ! Great post ! As always ... And that pen would go perfectly with my new old writing desk ! Oh, and have you seen Prospero's Books by Peter Greenaway with John Gielgud ? It's breathtakingly beautiful and Prospero does make the storm in this interpretation...
I missed the live😢 and I wish I knew the answer but I don’t honestly know hi was the first celeb was to endorse Conklin 😭 😿 I still hope I have a chance to win…since I am following the rules and actually “knowing” the answer wasn’t a rule ;) and Wow! 26:03 That really is a stunning pen…deeply blue! And I think that it would’ve been awesome to see you dip test it 😜
Samuel Clemens loved the Conklin crescent. I love the crescent too. But that Jdog Blue! C'mon! Put it in a crescent fill! Love the glass nib pen...i have one similar but not nearly as pretty. Its on my repair list...I'm afraid, very afraid to try to open it.
Twas Mark Twain, otherwise known as Samuel Clemens who endorsed Conklin in the late 19th Century. Love the Conklin, I have a few, and it was Twain's endorsement that first got me interested in the brand! This one is a beauty. Thank you for giving this away to your community.
Easy peasy, Mark Twain. Man, i missed this stream :( Also, I really dig your room, nice and relaxing, and always nice to see a good collection of books.
Mark Twain for the Conklin trivia question. I also loved the Top Gear reference, I am assuming it was intentional because of the little chuckle after " and on that bombshell, it is time to end". Love your videos
It was Mark Twain. Love seeing the library and always enjoy your content. You have been a great resource as I have dove head first into this amazing obsession.
Mark Twain was the spokesperson for Conklin! Thanks for a great show, HJ. Your encouragement not to be gloomy and your reference to Italy surviving the Borgias and producing Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and birthing the Age of Enlightenment was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you. Something is being born in the collisions and chaos. Creativity and progress emerge from conflict. Loved seeing your pens and that gorgeous Conklin giveaway. The cap indeed looks like the universe! Please note: if I should be lip lucky enough to win, I would like to pay for the postage to Australia. You should not have to pay for that. Best to you and your family. The library paint job looks fab, and I’m happy poor Yorick’s jaw is repaired. 💀
Mark Twain loved Conklin pens. That Jdog looks really nice! I'm really trying to not buy any more pens for a while after my Namiki Nippon Art pen purchase for Xmas.
To enter the giveaway, it was Mark Twain....Thank you so much for your videos, I find them inspiring and informative, and your personality shines through. I've always loved writing, short stories in particular, and now enjoy journalling thanks to you. I now have a small collection of modest fountain pens and love them.
Mark Twain! And no wonder--if I was in the business of writing and had to do it by hand, I imagine I'd be so relieved not to have to keep dipping my pen that I, too, would become a walking billboard for that wonder :)) Thank you for another wonderful hour, these lives are becoming part of my weekly routine & I'm now looking forward to seeing how the home project progresses alongside getting the regular fp gossip 😊
I was wracking my brain for the name. He weote Huckleberry Finn & didn't they make a pen with his name on it & fancy special filling button? YES! Mark Twain! Thanks to Atlas & HJ! It's a pleasure being nominated! And that resin is gorgeous. 😍
I kid you not, I had a dream last night about finding a box of fountain pens. lol I am somewhat new to them but have purchased about 5 different Jinaho’s and am in love and they are on the cheaper side. Mark Twain/ Samuel Clemons is someone I always loved reading. One of my 2025 goals is to read more… I will add one of his works to my list!
It was Mark Twain 😊 and just FYI my husband who is not really into fountain pens happened to walk in just as you asked the question. He went straight onto google to see if I was right. Not only that, but he sat with me and listened to the rest of your show whilst rattling off all the famous people, past and present, that he learned love fountain pens!! Well done for getting his attention!
Howdy! The waterman Carene has been on and off my list since I began my fountain pen journey in Feb 2024. At times, I was off inlaid nibs. Pauldavidartclub got one recently and I finally wrote with it. Beautiful writer so I ordered one on Friday and got it next day! (Isn’t that amazing? Shot out to Goldspot for that). I would have preferred an extra fine nib but the only one I saw was over $150 more than anyone who had the pen. Crazy! I am very happy to finally add this pen in Amber to my collection. I’ve been crazy for brown pens lately as I don’t own any brown pens so this pen fit the bill. So glad I got it. I love waterman anyway. Now I’ve joined the club of waterman Carene users. 😊
Mark Twain endorsed the Conklin self-filling fountain pen in 1903, saying " I prefer it to 10 other fountain pens because it carries its filler in its own stomach, and I cannot mislay even by art or intention".
That Carene was beautiful in it's art deco loveliness. You should use a J. Herbin ink in it. At the moment I am partial to the turquoise inks from that august establishment.
Mark Twain is the 19th century writer that endoresed Conklin pens. I actually picked up a crescent filler after learning about that fact and I really like the pen. The 1898 are also beautiful pens. Thanks for doing the giveaway!
Yep, agree with the others here, Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens in 1903 became the first official celebrity spokesperson for the Conklin Pen company. That pen is very pretty. If I am lucky enough to win it I would love a note written with the Bohem.
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) endorsed the pen. My stepdad was a Conklin. I think there were 3 or 4 generations named the same, William P. I would love to win this. The resin is very nice. A "fine' nib is my go to. Very nice of you to pass it on.
Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens) . That Conklin pen looks fantastic though. Just bought the TWSBI Kai and the colours are similar. Though looks more luxurious than the TWSBI.
Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain. Reviewed your video on the Conklin Duragraph and brought one ( purple nights). Love the pen it is what you described and more!
Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) endorsed the Conklin Crescent filler. This its a beautiful blue pen, and I agree it is wonderful that they are naming them after their valued people.

Nice history question, Mr. Jones! Mark Twain loved Conklins!
It was Mark Twain for the give away. Always love forward to your chats and other videos. Totally entertaining and appreciated.
Great trivia! I did not know that fact. Now I know it was Mark Twain; that's quite a celebrity.
It is Mark Twain. About the Conklin Crescent Filler: „it cannot roll off the desk.“

It’s Mark Twain for the Conklin pen giveaway.
HJ, thanks again for another lovely and entertaining live show. You’re a fountain pen legend!
I was caught by your comment that it looked like the universe. That would be the favourite finish of Inkquiring Minds’ Doug. I am also married to a Brit and I get the reference. Lovely pen.

Great show! Beautiful resin. That is quite easy it´s Mark Twain I´ve heard it several times. I think Conklin even has model with his name.
I had some incredible last for that glass pen. Great purchase! Definitely worth it. Can't wait to see your video on this.
Mark Twain was the spokesperson for the Conklin and the answer for the Conklin giveaway! Mark Twain endorsed Conklin.
I did know the answer before looking at all the responses.
Very kind of you and Atlas!
I really enjoyed this Tuesday's live program. Beautiful pens! I've never seen a glass Dip on a button pen body! Intriguing? I'd love to see you use it.

Hi HJ! Of course it was Samuel L. Clemens, AKA Mark Twain who endorsed Conklin Pens. Love the color of your study! Thanks for another great live show!
Mark Twain endorsed the Conklin pen. It’s kind to have a drawing for a pen. Also enjoy your videos and thought your walls are a pretty color!
I would be interested in a tour of your bookshelves, and your reading recommendations of favourite books. Allen.
Thank you for organizing the giveaway, HJ! I wish all the participants the best of luck!
Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemons
Impressive paint job and good color choice.
Love seeing your videos and your library is amazing!
Thanks to Brenden and you for your generosity. Jonathan Brooks resins are my favorites
It's Mark Twain. The 0en was the Conclin Crescent filler because the crescent acted as a roll-stop.
That's a great pen.
Yes, you are basically an entertainer !
RS. Canada
Indeed.
Samuel Clemens, Hem ... our beloved Mark Twain! And, what a beautiful pen which you are giving away ... congratulations to whomever (even, perhaps, this old man) is the lucky winner! Enjoy it in good health and in happiness!
Greetings Tim. It was Mark Twain. I learnt this two weeks ago. Amazing! Ken from Latvia. Goog luck every one!
Very nice pen, it was Mark Twain who endorsed a Conklin pen. Nice paint job as well.
Mark Twain. What a lovely pen-that resin! Thank you for the great videos!

Another great video, Tim. BTW, Samuel Clemens AKA Mark Twain switched from the Wirt Pen Company to Conklin.
Mark Twain endorsed Conklin's crescent fillers because the crescent serves as a built-in rollstop, saving him from uttering profanities.

Mark Twain! My husband LOVES Conklin Pens! Thank you for your generosity!
Mark Twain endorsed the Conklin Crescent Filler. My first Carene was the Reflections of Paris. I love it and now have 3 Carenes!😊
Easy peasy, Mark Twain. Man, i missed this stream :( Also, I really dig your room, nice and relaxing, and always nice to see a good collection of books.
Mark Twain!!! How wonderful of Atlas to offer this gift! ❤
I got a Conklin Toledo this past year- it kept bd if reminded me of a Visconti Homo Sapiens (if you squint) nice writer and very handsome pen
Mark Twain . A great Jonathon Brooks resin. Hope the new owner enjoys 😀😀
Mark Twain. Thank you for that question. How fascinating! Love how you got your viewers to dive into fountain pen history!
Mark Twain! That is a beautiful pen!! Thanks for sharing :)

@ I’m sure working on it 😁
Mark Twain! Brendan aka Hollywood! Great video HJ!
Samuel Clemens was the 19th century writer that endorsed Conklin pens... long time lurker, first time commenting, good content my friend!

For kitchen fires…purchase a fire blanket. It is much safer than picking it up.
Mark Twain! Paint color choice very soothing!
That would be Mark Twain!
All the best wishes from the Netherlands! I absolutely love your videos and your style of doing things, it's awesome
Where did you get your shelves?
The answer is Mark Twain -- and enjoy your new Carène, it has a really nice cap. I put Sailor Blue Black in mine.
Mark Twain endorsed the Conklin self-filling fountain pen in 1903, saying " I prefer it to 10 other fountain pens because it carries its filler in its own stomach, and I cannot mislay even by art or intention".
Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemens. Another great video as always Tim. 👍
I love fun facts you provide! Mark Twain and Conklin for the WIN! 🎉🎉🎉
That Carene was beautiful in it's art deco loveliness. You should use a J. Herbin ink in it. At the moment I am partial to the turquoise inks from that august establishment.
Nice giveaway! It was Mark Twain that endorsed the Conklin fountain pen.
Hoping to be able to get one in the far future! ❤
Mark Twain and Conklin Crescent Filler pens were a good team. Thanks for the giveaway.
Mark Twain is the 19th century writer that endoresed Conklin pens. I actually picked up a crescent filler after learning about that fact and I really like the pen. The 1898 are also beautiful pens. Thanks for doing the giveaway!

Mark Twain (Samuel Langhorne Clemens) . That Conklin pen looks fantastic though. Just bought the TWSBI Kai and the colours are similar. Though looks more luxurious than the TWSBI.
It is Mark Twain. Very nice pen. Many thanks for your generosity!
Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain. Reviewed your video on the Conklin Duragraph and brought one ( purple nights). Love the pen it is what you described and more!
Mark Twain endorsed the Conklin pen. And wow that is amazing looking pen.
Love love love the new wall color!
That would be Mark Twain. I need to get into Waterman, that pen at the end was just too gorgeous. That art deco-ish wave design silver and gold. Wow.
Such a fun show again!
It’s Mark Twain for the giveaway! Great video
Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) endorsed the Conklin Crescent filler. This its a beautiful blue pen, and I agree it is wonderful that they are naming them after their valued people.
Loved the new Waterman Carené!
Also it was Mark Twin who endorsed Conklin Pens i think!
