After months of my car randomly not starting, I find the exact solution to my problem and save probably hundreds of dollars from a mechanic. Thank you so much!!! 👍👍👍
Thank you for this video. My wife called this morning. The car just quit after going over a speed bump entering the parking garage. The car would crank but not start. I used this video to find the part, drove down, switched it out, and saved the day. Can't believe the fuel system could and would fail like this, so abruptly!
us mechanics use RUclips not going to lie but this sure did help after 2 hours of going in circles found this video and fixed the customers complaint thank you
No big deal. It was $73 for Dorman brand at Advance but I was already at the the dealer. I told the parts guy and he said "but this is a factory part", and I said, "and I'm here because a factory part failed". He just gave me a stupid look. But thanks, I was glad to get it fixed so fast. @@CarShopTalk
Common fuel pump module . One needs to carry a spare. My 2014 Tarus started smelling gasoline fumes. I needed to replace both fuel pumps ( yes 2 of them) under the rear seat. The metal retaining rings rusted forced pressure on the plastic fuel pump housing casing them to crack causing the gasoline to slosh out of the top of pump causing strong gasoline fumes.
My 80000 mile 2013 flex just did this. Crank no start at 6 degrees, no codes. After a 3 hour wait for tow to a dealer arriving at 1 am, rolled off the truck and it started... Foolishly drove it home in 0 weather, 95 miles, in middle of night. Next day no start. This and other videos matched the problem. Tasca Ford delivered Ford part in 2 days. Tried it once more, no start, replaced module, crank right up. I watched 2 other 2013 Flex videos, seems like a trend...
This was a great help! Thank you. Had the exact same symptoms. Bought the part from the local Ford dealer for less than what the auto parts store charges. And it started right up. Would you mind sharing more details on the OBD2 device and app you were using. I know you mentioned it in the video but would like to get the same thing for my phone. Thanks again!
The App is called Forscan Lite. I use it on an iPhone and an android tablet. Should be available from the App Store. The obd II adapter I normally use is an obdlink mx+. It uses Bluetooth to connect to your phone. There are cheaper adapters out there but a lot of them will only talk to one network on the car, or have a switch you have to manually flip to go from one network to the other. The mx+ will talk to every network on a Ford automatically, even thru the new models. Forscan also make a laptop version that will run on windows. If you’re considering changing the configuration of the modules on the car you’d need the paid laptop version, but just to read codes or monitor pids and sensors the light version on a phone works great. Forscan has a lot of information on their web site and a pretty good community forum with a lot of information about Ford’s. I’m planning on doing a future video about Forscan that might be helpful but it’s a couple months away. Glad the video helped!
I've got a 2014 Taurus Police Interceptor that won't start. I replaced the driver module, and that didn't correct it. I checked for fuel at the fuel rail in the engine bay, and it's pumping fuel. What is my next best thing to check?
@@jonathanbailey4904 If it had adequate fuel pressure I would probably be wondering about a throttle body issue or a base engine / cam timing issue, but there’s literally hundreds of things it could be. Does it have power to the injectors? Coils? Any codes?
mine does the same thing, but after it was towed and bounced around a bit, it started working perfectly! no codes, 2019 Taurus- It works fine for months, then it won't fire, after it rides to the shop on a wrecker it fires up just fine. hate these intermittant faults-
I replaced my fuel pump module and than after another month it started doing the same thing. I’ve had some weird electrical issues like the lights on the dash/radio/touchscreen will be super dim and than I’ll hear a click and they’ll flip on to brighter, my ac randomly will cut on and off by itself (seems to do it more when it’s hot). I was thinking now that it’s not starting again after I’ve replaced the fuel pump mod once 1 month ago that maybe there’s a power surge? Maybe it fried the module? They might not be related and maybe I just need to replace the fuel pump itself idk.
And when I say the ac cuts on and off by itself it can do it 10 times in a few minutes when I’ve just started the car but it seems like normally if I’ve been driving around for a bit it doesn’t seem to do it anymore.
Update: so I I changed the module and it fixed it for a few weeks, it than did the same thing. I replaced the fuel pump fuse/relay this time. It’s starting up fine again (for now) I’ll try to keep updating if I have more issues for other people struggling.
I need your help. Having the exact same issue but I’ve tried a new fuel pump and relay. I think it’s an ignition issue. How do i diagnose ignition issues on these cars? I have a 2011.
If you think it’s an ignition problem I’d start by checking power to the coils. If you have power to the coils use a spark tester to see if the coil is firing. If not you could use a noid light to see if the pcm is grounding them. Do you have any codes in it?
Would you have suspected the fuel pump next if that module hadn't fixed it? I previously had an issue with that module and replacing it fixed the issue. Mine is still starting, but it cranks for 5 sec or so before starting and then sputters for a few seconds. I was hesitant to suspect the fuel pump since it's less than 3 years old, but new plugs/injectors, MAF sensor cleaning, and fuel pump module didn't fix/help the issue.
I would have. If I had the symptoms you’re describing I’d probably install a fuel pressure gauge to verify. I usually just tape it to the windshield and keep trying it for a day or two to verify.

Worked. Saved me some downtime with my car. Thanks a bunch!

THANKU So much..Safety is important
Worked perfectly. Thanks! Part was $103 with tax at the dealer though.
I had to check after I read that. They have gone up, Ford’s MSRP is $93.33 now.

Did your spark plugs get sparks when checking this?
If this doesnt fix it. When do you change fuel pump is that the next fix?

Sounds like it is. I haven’t ran into it on a Flex yet.
Thanks for the video, same problem with my 2014 easy fix

Does this go for 2015 Interceptor ?

@CarShopTalk I'm going to check those things next. I bought it cheap with a no start condition. Just tinkering to see if I can get it going or not.
Hi, thanks for the video. Mine still does the same even after changing driver module and the fuel pump. It might work, or not. You never know.
Any dtc’s? Do you know for sure whether or not it has fuel pressure when it won’t start?

Intermittent problems are the worst, and it’s a lot of them now days.
Did you end uP replacing the fuel driver module or was this after you replaced it ?
Thanks

I have same issue
Mine doesn’t do anything at all
Just got the same problem, when I was driving it just died. Cranks but wont turn over. Going to the parts store tomorrow, wish me luck.
Good luck.
@@CarShopTalk It worked!
@@ryan5251 glad to help
Did you check to see if the spark plugs were sparking ?
What is that part called
Fuel pump driver module
I have exact same issues. I replaced fuel pump module and it did not fix it. I have o2 bank 1 code that's it.
Have you tried a fuel pump driver module yet?
Happened to me same fix
Can’t beat experience, now anyone try this too.
Hmm, a crank no start! A rare issue for cars nowadays...

What would a 1975 mechanic say about this vid
I can ask him when I get to work, but I’m pretty sure he would approve of the starting fluid 🤣
