Amtrak to Moffat Tunnel, May 2018

- A ride west of Denver up through the Moffat Tunnel to Winter Park on the Amtrak California Zephyr. The video shows many of the more than 2 dozen tunnels on this part of the route.
Notes:
1. The video is from a trip taken May 30-31, 2018.
2. The video is being played at twice the speed of the original.
3. The video was taken from the rear of the train and the scenes are played in reverse.
One of the best segments of railroad in the country.

I was born in Denver. Rode that ski train to WP a few times and lived and worked in Grand County. Great video.
Never been through the tunnel, but I have sat at on the continental divide and looked down at the east approach tracks.

Too bad the Cali-Zephyr doesn't stop in Missouri. The closest stop for this train from where I live is Iowa.

So the tunnel isn’t one long 6 mile long tunnel but rather a series of short tunnels, right?
Dustin Deweerd Nope. The tunnel is one continuous 6 mile run under the continental divide.
The route up South Boulder Creek was shown. THEN the tunnel east portal. Moffat is one tunnel, 6 miles long.
Why not play it forwards the way it was recorded?

Since it is an active and often used railway, that would be a bad idea.
