"the fischer is drawn like this... with the lines out to hug you...
or strangle you."
best part
he said it so casually, made me laugh
Alicia Chen 100th like :)
@Mayank Kumar Are you good in chemistry now ?
a 10-minute video that helps me more than my prof did in 1/2 hour
Prof. sucks
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Thank you...for those of us that are "rotationally" challenged, this gives us a way to do these problems without completely screwing up when exam time comes. Which is today. In 45 minutes.
how did it go lmao
@@sydney7462 its been 6 years bruh
@@Uncle_Iroh65 yea and I'm still curious
@@sydney7462 fair enough
I was surprisingly able to understand just about every topic required for my first exam, EXCEPT Fischer projections. I watched so many videos and read through so many methods/examples on how to draw them, and nothing worked, however, this is quite literally the first and only tutorial I've come across that's actually enabled me to fully understand Fischer projections! Thank you so much!
9 years later and I’m just sitting here spiritually crying in sudden understanding after hours of flailing helplessly
That's amazing, so glad!
Thanks so much. This is much more informative and useful than the Fischer Projections video that Khan Academy has on offer.
this is literally the best fischer projection video i've watched and the ONLY one i've understood thank you so much.
Thank you so much for breaking this down! It seemed so complicated in class, but it is actually straightforward.
You're very welcome!
bruh wtf im from argentina, i have seen a freakin lot of videos of latin people and i didnt understand any of them. then i found this video, and now i understand everything. its amazing. and i aint an english expert or anything like that
So happy the video was helpful to you!
5:08 The arms are definitely strangling me xD Thanks a bunch!
ha ha...nice one
You are a life saver. My Organic Chem teacher at UCONN does not know how to teach.
I've watched soooo many Fischer projection videos and this is the one that actually worked for me!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
life saver!! ty so much! The first step of conversion that my prof told us was to make it into an eclipse conformation which I cannot depict in my head so THANK YOU!
Thank you so much, so glad you found it helpful.
I never thought that i would catch up this topic so easily.........But you have made it very easier....Thank You
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Thank you so much!! This is the first explanation that has explained how to decide which side to put everything on!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you , thank you! You explained that better in ten minutes than my professor did in a whole lecture
This is the only video that has helped me with drawing Fischer Projections, thank you!!
In Turkish we say "iyi ki varsın". It's like "glad for your existance":D or "glad to know you". So, iyi ki varsın! You REALLY are a life savior. Thanks.
Oh thank you!
Thanks, i really needed this video! I have sat in the auditorium listening to lectures, and spent a long time trying to figure this out. But in the end it took only ten minutes 😀 This is the way to teach things!
Dude. Your videos are amazing. I have an exam next wednesday and my god...you answered almost all my fischer projection questions. I'm blind in one eye so perception and spacial orientation is really hard for me. YOu make it all very easy. I subscribed to you and will DEFINITELY be using all of your videos to help me study. THANKS A TON MAN. Also- your R and S determination is freaking genius.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Quite an innovative way to convert Wedge Dash to Fischer and beautifully explained too. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
amazing video, so much better than khan's. very clear and informative, thank you!!
You .. saved my life! I wish people could just explain this subject as simply as you do.
Wow you really are a master. I was having so much trouble and now I understand. THANK U
You're welcome 😊
Happy to help!
Thank you teacher you are smart . From Ethiopia 🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹

AHH I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD. YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER. Thank you so much
I like you already and I'm not even done with the video😀. Very informative and your humor is top notch
omg! I cannot thank you enough! I don't have a model kit, so I was going crazy trying to picture the 2D flipping around.
This helped more than many, many other resources including the "professor"
Thank you so much!
Thanks....quiet interesting and beneficial rather than sitting in the class and wasting time.......
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Thanks man , i really did like your way my head always begin to spin when the prof begin to rotate the molecule .
Hi! Awesome Video, Super Helpful!
One Question: When you numbered your carbons, did it matter which end you started at? 2 being the alcohol substituent and 3 being Chlorine substituent? If you started at the other end would it work as well - 3 being Alcohol and 2 being Chlorine?
Thank you for this video, all od my professors were teaching me this by looking at it from different sides and I was so confused, but I hope that this will save me on my tomorrow's exam :D
clear, concise, and logical, just like science is supposed to be. You sir, should teach at my University.
Very helpful !! Thank you !
Thank you so much! it was super helpful, and very well explained, i'm from italy and it could really follow you step by step. you have been way more helpful than my book and teacher :)
THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH FOR MY ORGO EXAM THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video......you just saved me from a huge headache.my head thanks you too.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
you saved a nigga for his organic midterm, thanks.
you are a life saver I am from south Africa
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
almost all your Fischer projection questions? if you still have more, let me know, I can make videos to address them!
one if the best teachers i have ever had .thanks
I LOVE YOU MAN..you've saved me hours
You are so welcome!
this provided me with so much clarity thank you so much!
You're so welcome!
Thanks!! After reading the textbook and watching my professors long 1-2hr video i still didn’t understand and ten mins of you explaining has helped me understand now! I appreciate it!
Glad it helped!
Are you God?! I'm so blown away by 6 how much you make sense.
RUclips: the site you go to when professors are speaking Klingon.
thank you Quddus!
I understood this SOO MUCH Better than my professor explaining it! He made me feel stupid explaining it to me.
THIS WAS REALLY HELPFUL!!!!! THANK YOU!! YOU'RE A GREAT HELP!!!!
THANK YOU for the through explanation!
God bless you, man. You saved me.
just wanted to tell you that your videos and website are very helpful for jee-IIT aspirants
finally i understood the FISCHER PROJECTION... its quite easy after seeing this video.
It's very helpful . Thank you so much .
Thank you so much!
Explanation at the begining was perfect but at the end was so confusing.!
life saving videos for a person bad in organic chemistry.
##sharing is caring .so share more videos.wishes from india
I have one question. Why did you start labeling the carbon chain 1-4 on the right side and not the left? You didn't explain that, or does it not matter?
+Amina 96 I was just using numbers to keep track of carbons, not IUPAC numbers. If I'd done it IUPAC it would have been from right to left.
In iupac OH is priortized, so you want that to be attached to the lowest numbered carbon.
Thanks from France
You are very welcome to you in France!
You are an amazing teacher sir!! Thank You so much for this. please keep on uploading!! :D
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
You are great! Amazing job !!! Thank you soo much
Thank you so much, glad it was helpful!
What a great videooooooo, finally i understanddddd!! Thankss man!
Thank you so much, so glad you found it helpful.
thank you, you just solved a mystery for me and luckely before my test :-)
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Why did you say that carbon 3's configuration would reverse to R? The hydrogen is already in the back, so the configuration is good as is.
@svitlana martynuk I've got the same doubt
The molecule at the left has the H in dashes. Why are they not on vertical axis on Fisher projection?
a couple of videos later i totally understand it :D thank you !!!!
This is incredible! Thank you so, so much for making this!
You're so welcome!

Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Thanks a lot sir for students like us.
thankkk youuuu!! i understand like A LOT after watching this video!! like thank you soo muchh!
this is just a very good way to check my answer. in terms of understanding, it doesn't help. We need to know one of the two methods of converting a bond line to fischer which are either 1) rotate the molecule or 2) change the point of view of our selves(move our selves). The whole point of drawing a Fischer is to avoid coming up with those Rs and S configurations for compounds that have way too many stereocenters.
Thank you a lot, it helped me to understand Fischer projection. :D
I shall dedicate my PhD to you
Jesus I flunked my exam on all these projections and RS applications.. tmr we have a test and this helped me a lot man
Thank you so much that was so helpful 🙏
At 0:30 you draw the hidden hydrogens. How do you know where the hidden hydrogens are pointing and whether or not they are ponting into the page, out of the page, or in line with the page?
We know because carbon is tetrahedral; three of the orientations are known, and we can therefore deduce the fourth. For example the C attached to Cl, has two C-C bonds (in the page) and the C-Cl bond is a wedge. Therefore the "hidden" C-H bond will be a dash. For the C with the "dashed" C-OH bond, the C-H bond is a wedge.
tysm, our prof didn't really explain this thoroughly

Your videos are really great. Thanks a lot.
thanks Azain Ahmed ! glad you find it helpful!
You make sense!
Thanks so much for this video. Evidently I have to know how to do this on my exam even though it was never taught to us...
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This makes sense!
The best course for organic chemistry in youtube is by pahul sir
Thank you for that information
Best Video Ever !!!
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Thanks as always
No problem!
wouldn't cl and h be swapped to fulfill the r rotation on
the fisher? if its drawn h-cl, doesn't it make the viral center have s rotation?
in the fischer projection both the atoms on the horizontal line point outward right? but where exactly are they? how can they be at the same point? do they just stay side by side in 3 dimensional space?
Very helpful.
Well THANK YOU, that's exactly what I've been looking for the whole evening. As a French first year medical student I could really use a little help in organic chemistry, I'm immediately subscribing to your channel.
Isn't there a faster way to get to Fischer projections though ? My chemistry teacher taught us some way to go straight to the Fischer projection, without using the whole (R) and (S) method, but I didn't totally got it... so I'm not sure I would be able to explain it. It would be great if you knew what I'm talking about and could explain it better..! Or any method which is faster (to set the scene, first medschool year in France ends with a competition where time really is counted).
Thank you in advance, nice job, keep going!
Bless you sir
Thank you so much for this video it helped me a lot. Just one question, if instead of a 2.5D line diagram im given a normal flat line diagram without the wedges and dashes how could i figure out the R and S configuration? Thanks for your answer!
Thank you for the wonderful feedback, and you are welcome!
why is carbon no. 1 and 4 assumed to be inside the plane in Fischer?
You are my lifesaver. Thank you
Happy to help!
This is very helpful!
Thank you for the wonderful feedback
Quick question, does it matter which to put at the top and bottom or not, you didn't cover that, I would've thought that H and OH we're supposed to be there since they're both dashed in relation to the strangling method so why arent they there? Or am I missing out something? 😩
