- If you buy a previously owned school Chromebook that is managed, this process will reset the device IF the school turned off forced re-enrollment, which they should have if they sold it to you.
Can't thank you enough!!! I purchased a store display and after hours of research on how to reset still had no luck. Now i was able to do a full factory reset and I'm so happy I don't have to return it to the store. Thanks again!

Thank you 5 years later! Bought a bunch of used laptops and there was an old school managed chromebook in the lot. Working good as new and now I can resell it. Great work.

I need to know about forced reenrollment. Can't get into a chrome 3100 bc of students old password and is still managed by that school. This computer was donated to good will and my daughter got it for me. But I can't use it. Please help.
DUDE THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH. I just graduated high school a few weeks ago and the Chromebook i purchased was still blocked. I was starting to think that it was just gonna be blocked forever lol. Finally i can add extensions and play games and stuff.!!

Arron can you help me with developer mode is disabled. The Chromebook I have gotten is administration protected by school and when turn on wants google email and password Info. Can you help me. I did a power wash an still goes right back to the Google sign in screen

If the device is still being managed, you need to contact them. I don't know how to get around that.

If your device is stuck on that error ( the device owner has disabled dev mode ) all you need is to restart your computer

@@bradly8122 Sorry, but I don't know what to do about that. I work for a school and the video I made was really for folks who bought them from us. The video has helped some other folks, but if your device is still being "managed", I don't know a way around it.
I left my school a year ago and i still have the chromebook they gave me. I dont know how to get back into it. Everything I've tried just takes me back to square one. Developer mode blocked.

Sorry, as far as I know, you will need to contact the place from which you purchased/received the Chromebook. My video was for folks that purchased used Chromebooks from my school, we had turned off "forced re-enrollment".

I've got an HP chromebook. I have recovered it and it still asks for the enrolled email address. I have contacted the school it came from and their tech guy says it's not one of his computers. How to I make this usable?
Sorry, I work for a school and we only sell the Chromebooks that we can release from Management. If it is still being managed, I have no answers for you. I would try and get your money back.
This only works if the managing Google console allows Developer Mode and they have auto enrollment disabled.
Correct, this video was made specifically for Chromebooks that our school sold with forced enrollment turned OFF.

You don't need to let it wait for the unit to transition into dev mode. When it says "transitioning into developer mode", simply hit refresh+ power, then space + enter and you're good to go!! I've done this a hundred times or so, it works every time. Just trying to save you all the 10 minutes that it takes to go into dev mode and come out of it. If your device says "disabled developer" and it's enrolled, you must contact the school.

This video was originally made for folks that purchased used Chromebooks from my school. If Enterprise Enrollment is being forced, then the school (or whoever you bought it from) needs to deprovision the device. Sorry, I know of no way around it.
dell Latitude 5400 chrome .. In this chromebook, the developer mode is disabled in bios, so there is no way this procedure can work... give me a video to enable developer mode first...(and there is NO screw removing shit in this chromebook....everything is freezed in bios......tell me now..

The “chrome os is missing or damaged.” is for older chromebooks. The newer chromebooks say insert usb. Just press Ctrl d on the please insert a usb stick screen.

It didn't work on mine. (Thanks anyway) I've watched countless vids on how to reset it, and mine won't let me do any of the things mentioned. I bought it on ebay. and I can't see where it came from, to maybe contact the prior school admin. I was really hoping this would solve the issue... Admins should never block these where they can't be restored. and they should factory reset, and unlock controls, on each one, before selling!! Then we wouldn't have to keep searching for something to resolve the issue.
Yeah, sorry to hear. They should not be sold without deprovisioning them, it was probably an accident, but that is not helpful. It sure seems like the Ebay seller should be able to help, or give you your money back. :-(

Sorry, I can't help if you didn't get the device from us. You should be able to contact the organization that previously managed your device (or possibly still is managing) and have them UNmanage it.

@@AaronNoll_BPS I see lots of school districts dumping batches of old chrome books. Beware of buying any of these, They might be permanently locked from power washing!!!!

What if that Developode is disabled?
Is it still being "managed" by the school/organization? This video is just for Chromebooks that were purchased from and organization that has deprovisioned the device, but not wiped the device. Sorry if that isn't helpful.
If it IS still being managed, you need to contact the organization where you received the Chromebook.

You can use any gmail account. I think you need Internet access the first time.
Your Google/Gmail account. Chromebooks use you Google account.
I do use my gmail account and that does work but I have used my password no I’ve created brand new password new used before and the response is that it does not recognize the account and can not be active on this device has my frustrated what to do?

Recovery cannot be blocked unless they modified the OS

General BigMac_ you can use the recovery tool on any computer, it can be a Windows or Mac or Chromebook. And you can enter recovery mode by pressing esc+refresh+power (this cannot be administrator blocked, this is part of the OS)
Is the device still being managed buy the previous owner? That is what this video is about. If it is, you need to contact them and let them know they are still managing it.

Hey Mikus, Sorry, but it sounds like Forced Enrollment is still turned on. The video I made was for devices sold by my school, we had turned off the forced enrollment. If that is still on I do not know how to get around it. Can you contact the place you purchased the CB?

@@mikusendzelis6318 I just tried to follow these instructions on a Chromebook we are still using for out students and it denied me access to Developer Mode. When I connected to a public network I got the message that the device is managed by our domain. I am not positive that will happen on every managed device though.
