Joyo maybe considered budget priced, but there’s nothing budget about it. They make incredible pedals. Classic designed and they’re own creation. I have several Joyo pedals and they don’t disappoint.
Absolutely agreed.
I used the footswitch on my brand new Joyo Ultimate Drive and it stopped working. The pedal was too gainy too, like at 9 o'clock it was raging gain, and from 12 to 5 o'clock it didn't get any gainier. My experience of Joyo. Largest problem is they don't fit down the hole in the toilet when you flush.
They are great!
That Uzi distortion pedal is legit. Love that thing!!
I have this pedal.
I have found that what tone you get really depends on what guitar set up you are using and what amp you use as well.
It's like a jacked up tube screamer with a built in noise gate.
For the price, this pedal is a great value.
"I have found that what tone you get really depends on what guitar set up you are using and what amp you use as well." Just like any other pedal ...
@@demonoising yes but, if your pedal is run in the front or the back... that too plays a major role in how it comes through. I personally run all my pedals in the back. This way I get the pedals true sound... and not an inflated signal which happens when I run it in front of the pre amp. All that in conjunction with the type of guitar. Some already know this, but some do not. I just put it out there for those who don't.
@@commonsensehill372 The chain: gutar - Joyo american sound - Joyo Chopper Z - power amp... - that's the best and the most 'detailed' sound, I've tried ever!)
Big appreciator of the akward sitting positions
Nice. Sounds great. I love joyo’s stuff. Their little amps aren’t my favorite thing in the world but as a whole they make really good affordable products especially their pedals.
I would be willing to bet this is based on the precision drive pre amp. I have the joyo Argos and it’s plain as day based around the precision drive OD and I absolutely love it.
DemonFX also has an even more blatant clone. I’m an online buddy with their U.S. sales representative. Wondering how many cease-and-desist that dude’s lawyer has had to deal with.🤔🙄🤣
lol I have an Uzi and Darkflame pushed with a DemonFx Ts808/Ts9 clone as one rig and an Argos pushing the DemonFx R4 and Solo as another! Absolutely awesome!
Have You guys tried guptech? You can get the Vej garden g2g3g4 all in one the Vej 1 is a Vh100 Ampeg in a box, the Vej 5 is the Diezel Preamp, Vej 6 is a rockerverb in a box! The also have a Grindr pedal with the 33 and saw. Not to pricey but More than Joyo
Lol never change Kyle, you're an international treasure!
the chaotic intro kills me every time 🤣🤣🤣 Never change, Kyle.
2 stage boost pedals are fun - underrated class of stomp box in general. I got a couple two button stompers from Caline and they're a hoot. I think one of them is supposed to be a Fulltone clone lol
Have this, and depending on you guitar/Pickups and whether or not you throw an od in front, you can dial some seriously gnarly tones out of it. I love how it sounds with my MKH origins epiphone Les Paul.
I love Joyo equipment, great stuff. I have their 2 x 12 which is solid and sounds great.
Their "extreme metal" pedal has to be the best not-so-expensive distortion pedal I've found. Perfect for a late 90s death metal sound.
Local Music-Go-Round has one of these second hand for like $50-$60?!!
Dude!
That thing has got some decently killer chuggity-chugs going on IMO! For $70 NIB?!! Damn…
JOYO never ceases to amaze balls. The affordable gear golden age, begun it has…🤓🖖🙃
Great demo my dude.
🔥🤟🔥
Great opening riff!! Had a nice groove!
Damnit Kyle! My mind is blown over how killer and amazingly brutal this sounds!
Joyo , Donner and Asmuse are bad ass companies, love my joyo zombie , love my Donner jazzmaster and love my asmuse lp currently tuned in drop B holding steady
for 70 bucks that's an amazing piece of gear................Thanks for review
Would like see you demo The Tc electronic ampworx pedals
Kyle. Just shamelessly fan-boying on you right now cause you are the man!!!!
Thanks!!! (In a crazy hi voice)
Best intro ever.
Power imps do sound scary.
I liked it in front of the Amp the best. Sounded more alive on the ol, youtube
Buuuutt... "will it chug?", lol! sounds great! Love your content, keep it up bud!
with the overdrive it's like a wall of sound
This is 100% an upgraded Apex Preamp, and I'm not complaining :) Do you plan on doing a video on the ENGL Powerball Pedal too?
Absolutely!
Nice sounding preamp pedal! Would be curious to see how the older Joyo High Gain Distortion pedal sounds thru your setup. Also curious to hear your opinion on it as well.
I'd like to hear it against a Solar Chug!
That pedal is perfect for a Metallica or Alice in chains-level of distortion, and the tone kicks ass. Their extreme metal pedal is like the heavier cousin and it also kicks butt
Yo KB, check out the R-15 Pre-Amp House sometime... has a Dual Rec, BE100, EVHIII, Orange TH200, Engl Powerball, JCM900... its a fun pedal id love for you to do a video on... keep up the great work, bro... 🤘
It’s next on my list but trying to decide that this or the Rigel. What do You suggest?
@@adamstein9333 the Rigel is amazing! But... Its only one voicing where as the Pre-Amp House has 9 different amps dirty and clean (18 total)
Honestly loved it in front of the amp the most. That high mid grind was so ugly and nasty.
Which one would u get for heavy hardcore chopper Z or Rigel?
Been asking him forever everywhere. You can’t go wrong, theory goes one an apex preamp for chopper and a one channel ceres for Rigel. I have the Argos, Darkflame, and Uzi, and honestly would shoot for the Rigel. It’s Analog
I buy different pedals and amps. I'm 57 and have lots of stuff. This Chopper z pedal is really good...seen other videos on joyo stuff and I hear so much about the Argos overdrive. Well argos goes in my OK pedals but see ya later...I prefer the Joyo Vintage overdrive.
I honestly havent seen any of these pedal with usable cabsim. But as it is the distortion is very good.
Great demo, and awesome tee!!
I bought this one but returned. Main channel is a clone of the MXR 5150/Horizon Apex. Wasn’t bad. The boost was useless. Adds way too much gain and changes the eq too much. Didn’t tighten things up and seems to differ a lot from the tight switch on the Horizon. This pedal, at the least one I had, had a weird lag/delay when activating the pedal.
I think the fat boost is just turning the tight switch off lol
Knobage. I’m using that.
gotta watch out for those power imps!!
FYI...
MXR 5150 OD --> Horizon Apex Preamp --> Chopper-Z.
Great video and sick shirt!
As long as you're fully dressed, sitting awkward shouldn't be an issue. Great review.
As someone with an Oxford Sound and Argos Drive, as well as a Meteor II and Jackman II Bantamp xL, I must say I'm a fan of the brand. I also have a buddy with the Splinter pedal.
oxford sound I have is really noisy and makes a squeal when pluged in with a power supply
@@TheCjct1977 Mine is perfectly fine, boosted with the Argos Drive, run into the clean or dirty channel of my Meteor Bantamp, and also running the OD into the front of the amp with the Oxford in the loop. You might have some sort of issue with your power supply, your amp, or if both your pedal power and your amp are using a grounded plug, you might have a ground loop.
@@needsLITHIUM it’s just a regular adapter, seems ok on my pedalboard. It has a very unique tone to it, it sounds the best through my powerstage 200 with a noise gate, tried it through my 6505+ and it sounded awful though
@@TheCjct1977 That line of pedals is meant as a preamp pedal. To plug in through the front of the amp, put the 6505 on the clean channel, and put the Oxford Sound in the FX loop. Otherwise, use it direct into the FX return to bypass the preamp on the Peavey (Guitar -> Oxford Sound -> FX Return).
@@TheCjct1977 I'm revisiting this video, and I've discovered that if you crank the bottom three knobs, these Joyo "____ sound" preamp pedals get noisy. The volume, voice, and gain knobs all introduce varying amounts of noise. The volume adds a little noise just above noon, but it gets worse after 3 o'clock, and the voice and gain knobs together can both make a lot of noise, and tbh you can crank one of them, but not both, and it works best if their positions add up to maxed out, and for best practice, use some sort of noise gate. The voice knob also changes how the pedal responds to overdrives, so you can totally crank that and leave the gain well below noon and then us an overdrive to make up the gain. Like I mentioned, the Argos is a cheap clone of the Precision Drive, which has a built in noise gate. You can run the Oxford pedal straight into the FX return (I've run it straight into a solid state power amp which is the same thing, and into the FX return of my buddy's 6534+), throw the Oxford into the FX loop (I've done this with my Joyo Meteor Bantamp as well as with my Orange Super Crush) with the amp on clean and your overdrive out front, or put it in front of the amp. First option is what you're using, and you should get a noise gate or gated overdrive for that application. The 2nd and last options seem best suited for use with a single channel amp with only a tone knob made by orange (like an Orange Micro Terror, Micro Dark, Terror Stamp, OR15/OR30, Rocker Terror, etc) or a clean amp with only a tone knob (Joyo Bluejay), or an amp you want to add a separate gain timbre or structure to, to essentially turn a 2 channel amp into a three or four channel, or make a 3 channel into a 4 or 5 channel (which you could totally do with a 6505+).
Joyo should make small practice amps with these preamps 😁
Sounds a bit to muddy and fuzzy on the bottom end for me.
Sounds tight !
This the Rigel or the Preamp House? What is Your favorite and If YOU HAD TO HAVE ONE!
That built in cab sim sounds perfect for kvlt black metal
some of the grindstein IRs sound like it lol
Any thoughts on genz benz amps and cabs
El diablo is my main amp
What is the difference between a pre-amp pedal and a distortion pedal?
It's subtle, but a preamp is supposed to go directly into the power amp, a distortion pedal is supposed to go into the clean channel of an amp. They usually are interchangeable, but normally are better as one or the other.
What presonus interface are you using?
Presonus 1810C
Sounds damn good!!!
Kyle please tell Me, Rigel or Chopper z?
I'll probably buy one
its simple, its a copy of the horizon devices preamp
It never ceases to impress how you manage to make everything sound so good. It's like you're early Ola Englund except American and you talk. So like not. But yeah kill tones dude
If that wasn't enough, Joyo also has preamp house with 9 different amp simulations.
Have it here, that one is on deck next!
@@belligerentamateur I'll be waiting for that.
The Joyo gear sounds pretty good for the price.
I saw no “paid sponsorship” pop-up. Therefore, I will watch in earnest.
I mentioned that it was a sponsored video very clearly
Later in the video.
@@savoirfaire8979 my obligation to disclose is fulfilled then. Thanks!
My god some people are anal.
Check AMT solutions. There are so much interesting things. For e.g. 5w tube amplifier in pedal format
i dont understand how this brand keeps making good pedals for such low cost
A bunch for a little 🤘
dude is all ears
lol that cab sim sounds like ass... Everything else sounds killer. I had the AcTone and it was awesome for the price and my DarkFlame replaced my Revv G4 clone.
Erie hardcore!
Sounds like a 90s branded Randall 10w practice amp. At best.
Randall branded stuff as "90's"? COOL!
Are you kidding right now? It sounds nowhere near that level of "boxed in", and there's a more well defined low end..
Joyo makes great shit
A bit of knobage...nice...lol
FIRST, Yes!!! 🎉😂
You have hundreds of amps, why play it through a clean chanel thats going to color the preamp? And why not send it into the loop return then? Pretty poor choice on your end
Putting it into a neutral clean would have been nearly the same as putting it into the blackstar, so I chose to see how it would dial in with a colored clean channel to see how much you can sculpt the tone. It was a very calculated choice and I think it shows more than a flat clean channel would have. Thanks for your input
70$ hard to beat joyo makes pretty good sounding sh-t! Thumbs up on the joyo!!!!
Have this pedal, PURE CRAP!!! Built in noise gate DOES NOT WORK!!! As a preamp pedal, NO SOUND INTO A POWERAMP!!! Front of AMP, it is so flippin' noisy buzzy crap!!! Third Joyo product, and the ABSOLUTE LAST!!! JOYO HAS NO WARRANTY!!!
Skill issue
@@saamo1423 OK, boomer!
I have it too, and I do admit that the preamp feature isn't too good on an FX loop. Though, the cab sim is great when hooked up to an FX loop, and the turbo amp feature is good on the front of an amp.
Omg…. 3rd comment
