The show was never as good once tony dinozo left. I agree with those that said seasons 3 thru 10 were the best with Tony/ziva/tim/gibs and Abby. One of the best shows ever.

With affection for Mark (Harmon) and Don (Belisario), I've worked with and knew both of them - this series, much like KIng of Queens, was one of those stinkers that had a ridiculously long run, relative its quality.

As a Freshman in college, I watched Mark Harmon, a Senior and the UCLA quarterback, beat my college team in a football game in the fall of 1973. I retired 8 years ago. He certainly deserves and has earned a comfortable retirement by now.

Seasons 3 through 10 did not have very high turnover. They were also the BEST seasons of the show.

I swore I would stop watching after Gibbs left and I did. Then I was at my Son's home and he had it on. As we talked I caught a little of the show, and found myself watching it. And you know what? I watched all of season 19 and I found the show has not missed a beat. Second chances make the world go round, thanks Son.

Missed the departure of Duckie. Had a crush on David McCallum since I saw him in reruns of the Man from UNCLE.
I was lucky enough to watch the original series as it aired. Think I was about 13/14 at the time. David McCallum was such a good looking man and now I'm 65, I still think he's a good looking man for his age.

Am enjoying the re-runs of those earlier episodes much more than the current episodes. Too many great characters have left.
As a 60s child, my husband, a 60s teen had to point out David McCallum to me.
He had watched every episode as it aired originally, & I had to binge. So I watched 2 or 3 episodes where the Duck 🦆 was soaring, & Jimmy was but a dream. My husband says "That's DAVID MCCALLUM." Me-"David f$#@;'& McCallum?!? The REAL David McCallum!?"
I had not seen him since my childhood, & I was 60. Every once in a while, he would have an expression, & I could see the him that I saw so long ago. The actor that they got to portray him as a young man had a pretty good look, too.
That's not what brought me here, but it was a personal delight. May they enjoy their vacation!
Only leaving off of the title, he's over 70. Doing this type of television work you have to be in good physical shape. He was using doubles to do some of the work he used to do himself. I'm not saying he ain't in great shape for 70 I'm saying it be real.
One forgets that, in a long-running show, the actors get older just as we do....

I hated the way they ended Gibbs career by making him a criminal destroying his reputation and then putting him out to pasture somewhere and nowhere Alaska the new guy is not near as good
Wow! I didn't know that. I struggled with it after Tony left but only stopped watching by accident when it switched channels in the UK and I didn't realise a new series was on, I think I saw the series after Abbi left but not after that. How could they do that to Gibbs? He was one of the good guys and, apart from being an avenger when it was needed, would never have done anything criminal.
When Polly left she acted like an overgrown baby boo hooing at absolutely nothing, actually the show is over for me when Gibbs left
Mark Harmon is 70. After 18 years as the actor that played the main character for a successful show he should have enough to retire and live comfortably.
Once Weatherly left it was a done deal. His and Côte's relationship was the highlight of the show. On to Bull.

I have loved NCIS and it's spin offs from the start. My favorite spin off was NCIS New Orleans. When Lucas Black left it really hurt the series. Lucas Black was raised about 7 miles from where I live in Speak, AL. From what I was told he sometimes comes for a visit. One Sunday he visited the Baptist Church where he was raised and paid off the Church debt. I have watched his career since he was a child. He's a fine actor.
A top long-running series is bound to have a steady turnover of actors. Michael Weatherly left to become the star of his own TV series. David McCallum left because he thought a medical examiner should not be in his late 80s. I for one am very pleased to see new characters appear as others go. It keeps the series lively and interesting. In a real-life workplace the staff would be leaving and starting all the time. Long may the series continue. The quality of writing is still superb.
David McCallum wanted to retire from acting full time as well as Mark Harmon.
Weatherly didn’t leave to take another tv job. I believe he just wanted out and the other tv job then appeared.

An all time favorite series: NCIS, NCIS New Orleans, NCIS LA, & now NCIS Hawaii. Jethro Gibbs, Ducky, Abbey, Ziva & Tony, Tim & everyone else make my TV time worthwhile. I'm older than Mark & Pam, but loved seeing them together last season. I cried with Rocky & the kids when his wife was murdered. Then I cried with LL Cool J & his kids when his wife was killed off. If the series were to continue another 20 years I'd remain faithful till my end.

I always thought that the show would bid goodbye upon Mark Harmon's retirement. He was the glue that held it all together. If Dinozzo was still around, then it perhaps would be okay to continue but after so many original cast members left, is it even still NCIS?
I was hoping that the DiNozzo character would come back...and become the new "boss."

Amazing info as to why so many actors have left the show. My favorite characters Gibbs, Ziva, Abby and DiNozzo made the show. Now the storylines are lame. I hardly watch the show any longer!!!

Oh Yes, Ducky and Palmer! That was THE TEAM. It was So Much The Writers could have used Concerning: The Showing, and What happens when Ziva United With Tony and Their Daughter(Talli) include Them Getting Married etc.

I’m from Taiwan, and NCIS is my favorite TV show in which using the language that doesn’t from my motherland.
Since I was 12 I watch NCIS with my Dad and my sister, now they are move to other cities for different reasons. I’m still a big fan of NCIS now.

Duane Henry got completely screwed over. He deserved better than that.
Agreed, that is the most asinine reason to let someone go (his character’s creator died so therefore we don’t know where to go with his character). That is lame as hell.
I really liked him. Man was I pissed they killed him off just as an excuse for Pauley to leave. Her "acting" was getting a little long in the teeth anyway.

Yes I agree, I don't see why they killed off his character, cuz Pauley wanted to leave and Gary Glasberg's passing. Why couldn't they have put his character in a temporary coma then refresh his storyline in the following season with him waking up in the hospital and in recovery
He had potential! We needed fresh cast, it would've made the already unrealistic show just a tad bit more realistic in terms of moving on -- life and death.
Sasha went on to be the ME next to Angie Harmon in Rosilli & Isles.
I got into NCIS by my mom and I love all of the original cast including Paully Perret, Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Cote De Palo, Sean Murray, David Mcallum, Palmer, and the rest. After the original cast had left, I lost interest in the show because I love the original cast too much. It was mot until after Paully Perret had left that I truly lost all interest, because she was one of my all time favorites, next to Mark Harmon.
It's time to put NCIS to bed.

Definitely Mark Harmon as "Gibbs", this actor and his character in NCIS were the main reason for me and mostly the only reason to watch this series for a long time, everything else around him was just only an accessory to the story for me. Sorry, but unfortunately, I have to say that all the other actors and their characters were never as consistently convincing as Harmon/Gibbs for my taste, they had all their ups and downs both as actors and as their characters.

I'm kind of liking Gary Cole and the chemistry of the cast. It seems like everyone is less stressed and having a good time. I hope they keep the show going the way it is.
I've been a fan of Gary Cole for years , I quit watching NCIS when Zeva left , I turned the show on and there was this skinny girl sitting on the floor eating everything in sight , it just turned me off with the show , I changed the channel and I haven't watched it since , a friend of mine watches NCIS and she said Gary Cole is really good and enjoys him , she also said he brought back some of the fun back to the show

The first two seasons will always give the most nostalgic feelings obviously, then until season 11/12 it's peak NCIS imo, when the blondie comes in (i don't even remember her name) yeah the vibe is different but i have to say it's still watchable and enjoyable, it only gets worse after Dinozzo leaves, after that one, everything starts to be even worse...
I still watch the new EPs, but it's clearly not the same, not even close, even in terms of production, you can feel the difference, in the initial seasons you'd have multiple background soldiers and explosions just for the beginning of an episode because it started in a training facility, now they don't even have more than 5 agents when they are escorting an high risk terrorist from an embassy to the NCIS HQ.... it's sad
@joer1512 get back into the seasons with Ellie (the blond girl) she character really does develop thru the seasons she was on. I stopped watching after Ziva left, but decided to give the show a chance with the new characters
Abbey leaving was the worst for me, she was such an amazing character. Although I agree with everyone who says that the best period of the show was when Ziva was part of the team.
And please dont forget Kate!! To me she was classy and a good actrice although she wanted to leave after 2 series. She didnt develop her potential as an excellent actrice...

Abby is heart of the show for me. Always looking out for everyone and being that shoulder to cry on. Always there as the person for people to talk to. Making gifts all the time for everyone. If one of them was in hospital, guarantee Abby was there by their side. Just generally going out of her way to make someone's day better. Abby really is a angel in platforms.
I love the relationship that Gibson Abby had father daughter, that magic was actually over when Pauly decided to throw her numerous temper tantrums
I think there is the point in a show, where you should wrap it up. If you've told every interesting story that could happen - all that comes afterwards will get compared to the good stuff already seen and it won't stand.

I love NCIS and have followed the show for YEARS. I have a problem with Pauly. If there were the so called assaults, why were there NO charges filed? I call BROWN FLAG.

The departure that hurt the show most, was Donald P. Bellisario's. After he left, the show just wasn't the same. The scripts started to get below-par, and while there were some good episode between seasons 5 and 10; they were far and few between, with no character development whatsoever. It was especially obvious with Dinozzo, who was a clown from the start, but had a lot more layers of complexity to him in season 1-4. Stopped watching in season 10, as the show just got boring (and it was clear they were recycling stories from past seasons with different variations).
I think that's true with any show. After 5 or 6 seasons you just start seeing a slow down of good story telling and more repeats. Producers should begin to realize that anything over 6 is excess. I recently watched all of Haven which went for 5 (really 6, the 5th was double length) seasons and that show could have cut 10 or more episodes with no pain.
Yeah, I pretty much lost interest after season six.
You can thank Harmon for Bellisario's departure.
@@MT_Madman Supposedly some of the cast were fed up with Bellisario faxing them scripts at the last minute and the rest of the cast and crew had no problem with Harmon who they viewed as their representative in the matter so it seems it was his own fault if Bellisario was pushed out.

With Mark Harmon leaving, it makes me wonder if we might get a return, or at least cameo from Pauley Perrette. Imagine a reunion of McGee, Abby, Ziva, and Dinozzo! I wouldn't even care if it was just 1 episode, it would be awesome!
I done think Perette will return though there have been hints from micheal and the producers of dinozzo and Hobbs returning possibly for just a small amount and it would make sense since they are the most loved characters, and in micheals return I wouldn’t be surprised if cote also makes an appearance, though I don’t expect it to be for too long and am really happy with marks replacement, as hard as it is I have to say they did a great job

One thing I always loved about NCIS is at the end of the show they acknowledge the people that are currently and have served in our military..Something that the current administration seams to have forgotten and are so busy looking at their watch when the list of our fallen soldiers are read
because people are waking up and realizing that every war the us has waged since wwii is a sham. there is nothing heroic about the us military slaughtering countless civilians and allowing the rich elite to make money off the war machine

Another reason for sasha Alexander leaving was she was going to move overseas with her boyfriend now husband & she had her first child about 14 months after leaving the show.
Pauley used to stalk her ex and used a restraining order (filed under false pretense) to get him thrown in jail repeatedly by finding out where he was, going there, and then calling the cops to have him arrested for violating the RO. I'll leave it to the viewers to do what they will with that in regards to her "exit".

I read that she left because of Mark Harmon.

Translation:
The character was the brainchild of the producer. Nobody wanted it but he was a producer so they had to swallow it. Lo and behold, the producer dies, and bang goes the character.
It would be a good story line for the show. Suspects: the writers?
The show never recovered from losing Abby! The writers must be lacking in a lot of talent if they couldn't figure out what to do with Duane Reeves! He was actually the one whom I missed most after the demise of Ziva and Denozzo, as I could see so many story lines for the guy in this white on white show! He and Elly would have made a great couple.
Jethro should come back for visits, when needed.
My mom was called out of retirement to work at Armstrong World Industries when they needed her. She was happy to return on an intermittent basis. Very doable.
This was one of the best series. I also watched the CSI series, but the crime solving relied too much on the scientific findings and too little on legwork effort of finding the culprit. The best team was with the original cast members - I remember when Holly’s character was killed off and it was so sad. There was no mention of DiNozzo’s kid with Ziva! Remember when he found out about the child?
I liked Bishop as well.
There comes a point in every series when it starts to repeat itself in one way or another. And the plots have been done elsewhere.
I started noticing that right before Ziva left, and A LOT MORE after. A few episodes in S12 had me going, "wait a minute, I've seen this before." I actually skipped all of season 13 to the last episode to see Tony leave. Once he left, I knew it wouldn't be the same. Gibbs, Tim, and Abbey were great, but without Tony, the snap wouldn't be there.
Dinozzo (Michael Weatheriy) was the backbone of the show and since he left the show went down hill.
Never liked him.
And when Gibbs left.
He and "Ziva" made those earlier episodes fun, interesting and exciting.
For fun I went on a binge, watching JAG and the NCIS, I can't really explain why the shows were fun but they were, maybe it was because they had a good balance between save the country, save the day, convoluted mystery and just regular crime. It didn't take itself too serious leaning to into the show reality.
To this day what cracks me up is the character swap. See in NCIS Harmon's character is a lot like Connery's character from Presidio and Weatherly's character is a lot like Harmon's character from Presidio.
I found JAG through NCIS like a lot of people did in the crossover episode.
Even now, I prefer JAG over many of the corny law sitcoms.
why didnt we hear anything about Mike my favorite character on NCIS besides Gibbs

When NCIS first started 'Gibbs' had a sense of humour but that slowly went. I've carried on watching it, I've not yet seen the new people replacing Gibbs and Bishop. I managed to catch a glimpse of the female in the last NCIS before 5USA started showing all NCIS from the beginning (in the UK). I think they could do no better than Abigail Borin taking over from Gibbs. I even admit to the first couple of season 18 not being up to speed - I find that very hard to admit. I can see that Gibbs doesn't look too well, not just age, but his eyes are not quite the same. I will miss you Mark. I agree: Abi, Tony, Ziva, Tim and Mark were a brill team, not forgetting Ducky and Palmer - who has very much come into his own the last few series.

Losing Dinoozo, Ziva ,Kate, Abby , Gibbs ,McGee (Elf lord) , Emily (to a lesser extent) and Ducky is the reason i will NEVER watch NCIS again.
That was the dream team. it was the cast that made me love the show.
it was my number one show at the time but it has not aged well and the turnover was getting silly i stopped watching after ziva left as the writing was not as good and the storys lacked imigination.
sadly i think they did not make that extra effort that is needed when a show has been on air for so long.
ziva had the best written character
What about Muse Watson (Mike Franks)?!?! I lost 70% interest in the show when he was dismissed. I stopped watching altogether when Ziva left! 😠🤔

@Bad Lieutenant I also liked Holly Hunter's character ( Jenny Shepard). I really thought her and Gibbs were going to get married in the later seasons but unfortunately she was killed off in season 6.
Of all of the characters to leave, I actually screamed NO when Abbie announced she was leaving. She was the real heart and soul of every take down of the bad guys! The agents provided the physical muscle but the mental heavy lifting was always Abbie. Season 15 episode 23 is when NCIS ended for me. Thank you Paulie for your long run on the show!
I had to have my dying pancreas removed and during my recovery, I've been binge watching all the NCIS and Chicago Fire shows. They keep me from going nuts!💞

My favorite characters Gibbs, Ziva, DiNozzo and Abby made the show. I hardly watch the show any longer since Ziva left because her substitute was such a contrast. I hope the old crew will return as much as possible so they can finish NCIS the way they started it: AWASOME.
I think ellie was a good character at first but her script just started feeling so forced like they changed her entire personality and didnt give her good character development
Okay so I'm gonna put this here. I enjoyed Clayton Reeves. Would love to have seen more of his character. Sucks that he died. However I am going to suggest that Duane Henry be considered as a future Dr. Who. Just putting that out there.
Interesting thought. He certainly put life back into a show that was lagging when they put him on NCIS!

I never thought Maria Bello's character added much to the show.
I think that now Mark Harmon has gone the show should wind down, there is no NCIS without Gibbs, it should finish it run on a high note. I also think Pauley Perrett's excuses for leaving the show were so lame and probably BS.
I never missed an episode but now I DON'T WATCH IT ANYMORE, why you ask. I miss Mark Harmon and without him, the show SUCKS! The new guy is not cutting it for me so I said GOODBYE TOO

The only thing that really annoyed me with NCIS over the years is the sheer number of people they killed off. Sure these things happen but wow, to so many. Sometimes it is needed for the story, such as Kate and Jenny, and was there any other way Mike Franks was going to go out? No. Some of the others could have just moved on, as people do. Such as Dornigan. At least they didn't kill Ziva, Tony, Gibbs or Elly
I agree. I just am wanting to know what other former cast/crew members could contribute to the conversation before I can give my opinion.

I adored Kate in the first 2 episodes and thought she was the best and charismatic EVER actress in all of the series. She had beauty, style, chic and her acting was great. I really missed her presence after she left. She brought acting and intelligence and CLASS to her role.....
I was sorry to see Mike Franks get killed off. He and Gibbs played off each other exceptionally well.

I remember reading that Pauly stuck her nose into a situation that had NOTHING to do with her. A crew member admitted playing a little rough with Mr. Harmon's dog, got bit and need stitches. He took responsibility but Pauly felt the need to be offended on his behalf. She basically assumed the role of a Karen. Given her history of questionable accusations leveled at her ex, I don't give credence to anything she says.
Have to agree with Grant . I would enjoy seeing more of the old cast return.
This is a show I enjoy and always will like the show. I would appreciate to see all actors and actresses.
I stepped back from watching the show after D'nozo and Ziva were gone. The chemistry, that the cast characters had was perfect. I preferred Jenny as the director or NCIS, the underlying tones between her and gibbs was incredible. McGee was the perfect probie... It's not NCIS to me, if Abbey, Doc, McGee, D'nozo, Ziva, and Gibbs, aren't there together.
The show has never been the same . Hope he comes back

Gibbs will probably turn up in Sydney. As an Australian it amazes me that NCIS is an organisation that investigates a service with under 400,000 members but manages to command four and soon five TV shows!
I have a hard time believing Mark Harmon was the big bad wolf. As far as I know there have been no other complaints, so I’m thinking this is not the full story. I don’t know for sure I guess anything is possible. I think she might be difficult to work with, just my opinion. I did like her character on the show, she played it well

during his guest starring stint on the west wing, allison janney said it was difficult connecting with the scenes with him on an emotional levvel because of her feelings towards him in real life on set. allison janney's word ill believe over everyone elses

When you get into shows like csi Miami or NCIS usually when they start killing off characters or characters retire etc usually means 👅 season ending or the show is ending. Only way to watch is Netflix which is only a few episodes then nadda so it ends you don’t get to see what happens next. Reruns are askew mixed up. Or the description on the cable isn’t what the episodes are about. Then it’s ah nuts.
I think the reason Michael Weatherly left NCIS was that his character kept getting bopped in the back of the head and he finally decided that he wasn't going to take any more of that "Bull"!

DiNozzo with Kate or Ziva were great. They made a great team behind Mark Harmon. Weatherly, like Harmon, got too old to continue in that role. He proved what a great actor he is in Bull, but it would've worked if Gibbs left a few years sooner and Dinozzo took over the lead, a more serious character for someone his age and way better than the guy they got now.

I quit watching when Michael Weatherly left. Hell, I pretty much quit TV. Once the Simpsons call it good, Hulu goes into the dumpster too.

Yep, they will end up in Paris. I floated that idea for a teaser by them about two years ago. In fact, I gave them the perfect spot and scenario. Anthony and his daughter are having pizza at The Cafe Foresta by the Gare de Nord train station after getting off a train from London where they had visited his dad. As Tony was eating he glanced across the Blvd de Magenta and watched a figure that looked very familiar in a hoodie walking. For a second, she turned and looked straight at them and the shock knocked him back while his heart stopped beating for several seconds. The flashbacks ripped in front of him. OMG, OMG, it was her.
Love NCIS best crime series every - had right balance of humour and heart dropping emotion - Gibbs was awesome as were Dinozo and some many of the team new and old ...Dwayne Henry I expected to see him all over British series...
I've been keeping track of "Abbie" since her departure and claims of terror. Me thinks she needed more drama in her life and has manufactured much of it and grossly exaggerated other claims. Not another single complaint from anyone. Not one. She has an enlarged picture of her importance. I feel sorry for her. It's more closely related to an inferiority complex and low self esteem.

Not really defending her, i also think she exaggerated aswell. But that's about it. Her claim could still be true, and other actor are just keeping silent in order to land work other places. Which again is me purely guessing. So just better to leave it alone and be silent :)

I think her tweets were over dramatic and unnecessary but I can understand that she had a long standing clash with Harmon and vented when free to do so. In Harmon's position as a producer other cast members wouldn't have had a lot they could do about issues with him. They probably couldn't talk and keep their jobs. If you hate your boss/castmate and he hates you and people only know you for that role then you're at a distinct disadvantage. That might be what made her play the victim. I actually like her as an actress but I have a hard time seeing her get any other big roles.

I guess it’s true that he did leave and it was time to retire, the character anyways….

Pauley's send off was so funny.
It was super obvious she hated Harmon, and refused to shoot any scenes with him.
Which wasn't the smartest move from her, as Harmon was the main lead and the show's producer.
Perrette is also the only one I've heard of who claims abuse and harassment on set. As far as I know none of the other actors have backed up her claims.
To me she was the worst and least believable character on the show .
Harmon got on my nerves after awhile with his grouchy ways...
@@tjroelsma I mean from what I've read she is an abuse victim from her ex husband, once abused you always have that fear, the slightest thing can set it off whether it was an intentional attack or something innocent. You never fully recover.
@@Kat-mu8wq That is true. Mark isn't innocent anyway, he shouldn't have kept bringing his dog to set after the attack. It made no sense do so nor do I see a reason to do so.

Personally my wife and I found Denozo a PIT and it improved when he left. Can’t view the new series in UK yet as it has shifted behind the paywall of a service we don’t subscribe to. To be honest not actually missing it that much, certainly not enough to subscribe to get it.
They leave because they get burnt out with the repetitive concept of the scripts,
Cote Left because the script writing for Ziva was horrible.
Micheal Left for the same reason, but CBS Gave him his own show.
Pauly Left because of issues with Mark Harmon,
Mark Left because of issues with staff + he wanted to direct / produce.
Emily Left due to Pregnancy, but Script wise she's now with Odette and Ziva.
