honestly, this episode more than any other made me realize why Allison doesn't use her power more. she realizes just how easily she can lose control if she isn't careful. she's still trying to figure out how to use them without going overboard and I respect that.
Yeah. Anyone who thinks they wouldn't quickly lose control themselves is fooling themselves.
It's kinda like bloodbending in Avatar. It's very powerful and can be very useful but can easily corrupt. In Harry Potter there is a curse that does that and it's one of the unforgivable curses. Taking control of someones mind and/or body is very dark and invasive. Using a power like Allisons can easily lead to missuse. Like when Allison used it on her daughter, she was 3 and were out of control but later in a flashback we see them years later and the daughter don't want to sleep, Allison uses it again and have probably done it many times to her over the years. It's the easy way out to get what you want. It's a slippery slope.

I liked Elliot and I'm sad he died, but the scene that made me cry this season was when Allison was chased down into the barbershop and the whole community there backed her up

Five talking to Reginald alone was powerful for me because I realized how long it had been for Five since they last spoke compared to the other siblings, and their relationship wasn’t as strained. Five disagreed with Hargreeves on ability and knowledge, tried to prove him wrong, and never got the chance to pick up where they left off.
The dinner scene went frustratingly off the rails. and I thoroughly enjoyed it
this is also the reason my family doesn’t meet up .. it would go pretty much like that

The coffee scene really shows the reason Allison doesn't really like to use her powers often, it can corrupt her easily, it could probably do that to anyone, making others do whatever you say, they are extremely lucky she has this much self control, that power would be so tempting, but people will still yell at their screens when she shows hesitation when using it smh

I think its really a mental thing, the reason Luthor doesn't seem strong all the time is he is constantly holding back. I'm personally 6'10" and I find myself being careful all the time, but when I don't hold back I can really destroy things. I think Luthor could even take bullets and shrug them off with a bruise if he thought he could. Its the same for all of them, its really if they believe they can do it and I really don't think we have seen the upper level of any of their powers. Not even close to what their true potential is. I've seen the end of season 2 as well.
As you say it's a metal thing. He's clearly mentally fragile and unless he's in hero adrenaline mode he act quite meak and im sure that translates into some physical weakness
One of the show runners also teased that their powers are stronger when they are all together
The beginning of the first episode showed them at their most powerful. Example: Allison literally "blew" the soldier's heads off by saying "I blew your minds"
Universe Doge he literally could take bullets. In the first eps he takes a explosive shot to the back and was fine.
Luther's strong on the outside, weak on the inside. Very vulnerable.

I felt really bad for Diego that, after getting to a place where he thought he was healed and stronger and could stand up to his dad in a way none of the others could, Reginal talked down to him so cruelly it brought him to tears and triggered his stutter that he worked so hard to overcome. I like that after a season of showing each of the Umbrella Academy kids as a representation of different responses to abuse, they didn't forget all about it in season 2. These people are still very much a product of their childhood abuse and even though they care about their brother, none of them dared to stand up to their collective abuser when he was on the warpath, likely because he might turn his attention to them instead and they know they're not in a place to stand up to him. Diego has never been my fave character but I sympathise with him and the gang because I've seen all of these signs of someone healing from abuse and it's pretty good representation in that if you've been through it, you can see a bit of yourself in one of them. I also find it interesting that Reginald assumed that Diego failed at showcasing his power because he assumed that Diego was aiming at him but he never looks behind him to see where the knife lands and so he never sees exactly what Diego can do. Reginald also sees Five as the most competent one, looking down his nose at his other kids which is ironic because those are the kids who were under his influence the longest. They are the way they are in part because of how he raised them, but Five isn't just different because he's the oldest. He's different because he escaped the abuse as a child and didn't have to bear it as long as the others. You could say the same for Ben as well which is probably why he's also so well adjusted.
Umbrella Academy is so awesome and I have so many of their comics from literally four years ago that somebody gave to me, and now they are worth money.

Just so you’ll know for next week Aiden (five’s actor) is doing all of his own stunts (just like in his fight against Lila in ep5). And he is awesome!
I think Ben can only possess Klaus because it’s a part of Klaus’ general powers.
And I really think Klaus actually is pretty powerful If you think about it🤔 because he can see and commune with the dead, make them interact with the environment, can manifest them into the real world, can be possessed by them and also can travel to the afterlife where he casually has a chat with God.
And I also think that in a way he can’t die either, not saying he’s completely immortal because he did die in the presented apocalypses.
But when Klaus went into the afterlife in season 1 God confirmed to him that he’s „already dead“ but also said she’s annoyed by him and sent him back.
It’s also a thing in the comics so I don’t think my theory is wrong and I can imagine this could definitely come up in season 3.
In the comics I believe it says something like „Nor God or the Devil want him“ and there is also a scene in which he almost dies because of an overdose but is saved by a figure in a long, black cloth which carried him to the entry of a hospital and looked like Death himself. And I’m pretty sure he also for real „dies“ after being shot in the head but when Death came to take his soul he was surprised he couldn’t.
But I guess we’ll see in future seasons what the show does with the whole thing 🤔
Reading this right after watching the third season is just so...... You're so right in basically everything...
I just think that Klaus didn't really really die in the apocalypse (spoiler alert), considering all the experiments we saw Reginald doing and all we get to know in season three. Maybe he just didn't want to come back to life, since there was literal nothing there... He may even have done that and just killed himself, since he was the only human being alive and he does like the afterlife (just as we see in the end of season 3)
I was thinking "I'm Spartacus" during that scene as well. This is why Allison reframed from using her powers as it's too tempting. Felt for Diego when he started stuttering. Poor Elliot didn't deserve to die.

I really liked Diego season 1 - then this whole hero complex with saving Kennedy in season 2 really irritated me, but the stuttering scene absolutely broke my heart. It’s so clear how abused those kids were, and as much as he acts tough, that tiny childhood flaw is so powerful
I'll take Vanya, who is essentially God. Meanwhile, if Allison said to the Moon "I heard a rumour you blew up" nothing would happen.

Alison did what she did in the coffee shop, not because she went out of line, but to show Ray how fast it can corrupt people, it's seductive to use and it could be used for very bad things. And that's why she doesn't do it all the time.

the way I see it Allison has way more weaknesses (at least on the show) than Vanya, she could be killed by bullets (or she’s bulletproof not sure), she can’t stop them midair like Vanya and she needs to speak and people to be near and hear her.

You guys should read the comics! It explains everything. In my opinion Allison Vanya And Klaus are the most powerful in the comics she can bend reality. They nerfed he powers because the show would end so quickly just from her. For example she could say I heard a rumor you guys lost your powers and they would whatever she says comes true
I am glad they did, for example toning down Klaus' powers as well, because it makes them more relatable and gives them room for growth. :)

Their powers and their limits are common knowledge in the comics (I also have the theory that their father "condition" them while training them to only be able to use their powers a certain way in order to keep them in line so their limits may be more psychological than the real shit) but if you want to take it as a spoiler I write it as such, here it goes
SPOILERS:
1. To be as powerful as he "needs to be" but no more (but that cab be some superman level shit or just some really strong dude)
2. To bend the trajectory of any projectile (it's more to do with gravity than telekinesis) and hold his breath indefinitely (that's why his name in The Kraken)
3. Bend reality but she has to do the "rumour" for it to work
4. All the ghost shit and also telekinesis
5. moving throw space/time
6. Has a portal in his belly to a dimension with tentacle monsters
7. Transforms sound into power

The "Swedish" in the sauna scene is so bad. Impossible for a Swede to understand, without subtitles. It just sound like gibberish. With subtitles you can understand it, but it sounds like it was google translated and then pronounced in some kind of Eastern European accent like Polish or something.
Five's Greek was terrible as well. When I realized later on, i actually went like "wait, that was Greek?!". I'm Greek and not only did I not understand a single word that came out of his mouth, but was also unable to overall recognize was was supposed to be my own first language ha ha

@@DarkChiasa There are surely significant differences between modern and ancient Greek, but it's not THAT far off. Also, we do get taught ancient Greek in school.
Yeah the Swedish was not good. But the actors probably only had a short amount of time to learn their lines. They should have given them more time to practice on their lines. I was watching it with my brother and we don't have subtitles on when we watch shows in english we got some stuff but we had to put the subtiles on to really understand.

The only reason her rumours didn't end well was because Reginald was kind of an idiot. If I was him, I would have asked for Vanya's rumour to be different. "I heard a rumour you could control your emotions" or "I heard a rumour you could only use your powers when you are calm" instead if rumouring her to think she was ordinary. He literally nerfed the strongest power on his team. Reginald was an A class idiot before he was an A class asshole.

hmm personally i think the others didnt stand up to reginald when he was straight up bullying diego wasnt because they dont care about him but more because they were all still kind of scared of their dad internally. they didnt dare speak out as kids because of how domineering and abusive he was and that kind of self preservation instinct to not turn the negative attention from their father on them doesnt just go away because theyre adults. these people were all deeply traumatized and messed up by this man

Five can jump forward because the apocalypse hasn’t happened yet. Last time he was traveling backwards and landed on the day of. He is now traveling forward from a time that has not experienced it yet. So because he is traveling forward before the event that hasn’t happened yet he will go to a time that is normal. Only once the nuclear apocalypse happens would the timeline change.
This works because for them the timeline has already happened. It wasn’t until they traveled back and disrupted the timeline that it changed. So, 1982 I think it was, is still there from his frame of reference. It isn’t until the apocalypse happens that the timeline Changes.
Question: did something happen to Shane? Or is he in vacation? (I don’t watch the channel regularly)

When the handler joins the swedes in the sauna and starts to speak Swedish, it's literally the worst Swedish i've ever heard, both from the swedes and handler. I'm Swedish myself, and literally did not understand what they where saying at all before i listened really closely. NONE of the worlds where pronounced right, and some of them where not even correct, it basically felt like they had just google translated their lines like 60 times and not even bothered to learn the correct pronunciation. yey.
Arent they all trained in fighting? Im sure Allison could fuck those guys up who chased her
Everybody loves nonviolence talk when we’re speaking about not taking revenge on people who have caused use harm ( I.e. burning down homes, killing children, public lynchings, opposing integration efforts). Why do we not talk about stopping the violence in the first place?! That seems to be a way more important position to hold and enforce throughout.
The question is "How do you stop something that hasn't happened yet?" How do you decide who is a perpetrator when no crime has been perpetrated yet? You could target demographics most likely to commit those kinds of crimes, but that comes dangerously close to prejudice. Do you use violence to prevent violence? Because violence inspires revenge, that's an old human instinct. No one knows the future and no one can know a person's thoughts except the person in question

What I'm not liking about this season is how they are not portraying the Jim Crow era with much accuracy. It was not simply that all white people were bigots, even though most were. Separation by race was the law and businesses were required to maintain separation of the races at their own expense. Also, that Indian girl would have had just as difficult a time as Allison in 1960. She would not have been in a mental facility with whites.
Stop trying to make Team Zero happen, Diego. It's not gonna happen!

I never loved reginald hargreeves more than this episode. He basically told Diego everything I've wanted to tell him. And when his stuttering came back I was actually kinda glad.

@Davida he was being unreasonably stupid the entire season. And I was hoping when his dad put him down, he would start acting with half a brain. I was proven wrong the very next scene with him.
