Nairobi's Kariokor is today a seedy market, where curios, tyres and assorted foodstuff are sold, alongside a car wash, meat and fish bandas. In 1914, thousands of Kenyans were shipped from rural hamlets to Kariokor to become carrier corps in the East African Rifles, later absorbed into the King's African Rifles.

Great content. The government should do more to modernize that market.i have spotted most of those crafts at the city center maasai markets and malls and even international markets. They are sold for exorbitant prices. So, a prudent person should visit the source for a bargain.

Thanks Japheth. But many Nairobi residents don't know this or prefer the convivence. I for one never knew about the handcrafts done in market it until this visit.

@@asilingamani but all is good.nway even if someone buys them in town, it's all for the good of the Kenyan economy. Like you said, buy Kenya, build Kenya.

JAMBO! Habari yako? I lived in Nairobi for 12 weeks in 1981 through the AFS Program. LOVELY. Went to Kariokor Market with my host mother and had a very interesting interaction with an Army officer. My host mother kept laughing and saying "hapana." Found out later he was trying to buy me! My family was Kamba.

Fun fact, the yellow Kariokor flats across the road are where Barack Obama stayed when he first visited Kenya in his university days.

18 hrs of daylight but the sun sets early so unless you're a morning person your days will feel short. I live in SW Sweden where the sun is up till 22.30 during summers (it never really gets dark). You notice the difference when you're living in Central Europe where the sun sets 2 hrs earlier.

Hi K R, thanks for watching and for your comments. Summer time in Sweden is delightful and the daylight is plentiful. Traditionally, in Kenya there'd be nothing like an evening person... daybreak finds people on the move, and by dusk everyone is ready to call it a day.

Please rose do some research on the kenya asian communtiy. They were brought to Kenya by the british colonial admistration to build the railway from mombasa to Kampala in 1891.because they were skilled workers. They have countributed alot to development in Kenya. Others as soilders fighting in the first world War and second world War.

Nice one. You must concentrate on doing more other than Austria because Austria is small and the Language does not allow enough Subscribers Like English, African, speaking contents, themes, location and Language. Even African contents will fetch you more success apart from the fact that most Austrians are closed up to Africans, be it presenters or otherwise. So pl grow your Chanel and be successful by following trends that are more popular, open, friendly and more universal and interesting. Check all your Austrian contents and you hardly have 1k views in years , whereas in Kenyan, English and African contents you even have 12k views in short time. Choose your priority girl, without being forced on a context. GO FOR THE BEST SUCCESS! In youtubing its all about Subs, appreciation and views. GET MORE!
