- The Evolution of American football can be traced to early versions of rugby football and association football. Both games have their origin in multiple varieties of football played in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, in which a football is kicked at a goal or kicked over a line.
History of American football
2000BC - In Ancient Greece, men played a similar sport called Episkyros where they tried to throw a ball over a scrimmage while avoiding tackles.

September 3, 1895 - the first wholly professional game was played, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, between the Latrobe Athletic Association and the Jeannette Athletic Club.
1897 - Latrobe Athletic Association football team: The first entirely professional team to play an entire season.
1900 - the Morgan Athletic Club, on the South Side of Chicago, was founded. This team later became the Chicago Cardinals, then the St. Louis Cardinals and now is known as the Arizona Cardinals, making them the oldest continuously operating professional football team.
1902 - The first known professional football league, known as the National Football League began play in 1902.
1904 - The first black person to be paid for his play in football games is thought to be two-sport athlete Charles Follis.
1906 - the Canton Bulldogs-Massillon Tigers betting scandal became the first major scandal in professional football in the United States. It was the first known case of professional gamblers attempting to fix a professional sport.
1920 - the American Professional Football Association (AFPA) was formed. This league changed its name to the National Football League (NFL). Two black players took part in the league's inaugural season: Fritz Pollard and Bobby Marshall.
1932 - First NFL playoff game. At the end of the 1932 season, the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans were tied with the best regular-season records. To determine the champion, the league voted to hold its first playoff game. Chicago won, 9-0.
1936 - the NFL instituted the first draft of college players.
1946 - was an important year in the history of professional football, as that was the year when the league reintegrated. The Los Angeles Rams signed two African American players, Kenny Washington and Woody Strode.
1958 - NFL season - The Greatest Game Ever Played. At the conclusion of the 1958 NFL season, the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants met at Yankee Stadium to determine the league champion. Tied after 60 minutes of play, it became the first NFL game to go into sudden death overtime. The final score was Colts 23, Giants 17.
1959 - longtime NFL commissioner Bert Bell died of a heart attack while attending an Eagles/Steelers game at Franklin Field.
1982 - 1986 - the United States Football League (USFL) formed as a spring league, and enjoyed moderate success during its first two seasons behind such stars as Jim Kelly and Herschel Walker.
1998 - the International Federation of American Football was formed to coordinate international amateur competition.
2001 - the original XFL was formed as a joint venture between the World Wrestling Federation and the NBC television network.
2020 - a new XFL began play. The league, also owned by Vince McMahon is vastly different from the original incarnation.
2020 NFL season - September 10, 2020 - January 3, 2021. The 2020 NFL season is the 101st season of the National Football League (NFL). The regular season started with the NFL Kickoff Game on September 10, with defending Super Bowl LIV champion Kansas City defeating Houston.

The pictures in the beginning are from the 1500s and you mark the year as being in the 1800s. Early American football developed from rugby. The first game was the Harvard v McGill game in 1875.
The Greek Spartans were a good football team back in the day.

Gotta love how it focused on which races played the game instead of INNOVATIONS of the game.
Your information is a bit off. Yes, those early years were all about the wild games of what eventually became Football. (association Football or Soccer for short) Rugby Union developed, as stated, once Webb-Ellis picked the ball up and ran. That started Rugby Union and that spread throughout the Ivy League Universities in England in the mid 1800's. Eventually it was copied by the Ivy League Universities in the USA and they were getting huge crowds of 50,000 to big games between Universities.
So, the business-like Americans saw an opportunity to make the game Professional BUT... Rugby Union was STRICTLY amateur. So, Americans like Walter Camp devised a game based on Rugby Union and called it Gridiron and made it Professional. Meaning the players could get paid. Completely different rules but kept a number of the terms used. eg A Touchdown in Gridiron came from the requirement in Rugby to "touch down the ball" to score.
Eventually the name was changed to American Football and the Americans shortened that to Football, even though using the feet is seldom used and the world-wide game of Football (Soccer) was already being played. So your version is actually incorrect!

Yah meanwhile American football is played by at least seventy two countries and have their own American football associations. Just look up IFAF
Also the thing the world calls football was originally called soccer when it was first established by the English.
