@@nknal7124 I was actually talking about this for when I go back to the Carolinas in may but it's very different fishing out there. Might be something I give a try on the channel.
Awesome setup, man. Im getting laid off from my job later this year or early next year, and im seriously considering making me an overland rig to go traveling for a few months when it happens
if you know you are getting laid off in the future start looking for a new job now wtf. some people dont even get 1 hour notice they are about to be laid off.
I worked for a company from 2008-2014 I showed up on time every day, I never called out, I busted my ass every day and always did what I was told. The boss called everyone into the office right before lunch on a Friday and said everyone is terminated they sold the company, no severance pay, no thank you for you dedication and hard work. Just flat out see ya later. It took about a month to finally get my first check from unemployment and unemployment was only like $300 a week back then, wasn’t even enough to pay rent. If you have money saved I would consider saving it unless you are planning to buy a vehicle to live in. I would probably start getting a resume out there if I were you. I’m not trying to tell you what to do I’m simply trying to give you some advice. Not saying don’t chase your dreams but always make sure you have some type of backup plan as a safety net. Good luck to you dude
why is everyone yapping lol. he knows he’s getting laid off so he’s still gonna be making money until they do it. maybe he has enough saved up to go on a 4 month trip? why does he have to keep looking right now when he can take a small break between his jobs??
What I was planning with my Tacoma ACLB as an inexpensive solution to wedge campers/Project M. Yes the BedRug will help with insulation and covering the tailgate gap. You still might need to keep the gasket seal.
I do love the project M though. If I do go camper in the future it would be between that and the radica moonlander. The bed sealing for sure helped, hoping to get a bed rug at some point. May have to re-cut my bed set up to fit the bed once I add that though. Oh well.
I have a long bed tacoma, 6' bed so regular mattresses are too long. I have not looked at a hess but I got a bunk mattress from camper world. Bunk mattress is exactly 6' long. The 4" foam mattress is dense enough prevent my elbow from hitting the bottom when rolling over. my hips do not touch bottom.
Great looking setup, and love the Hest gear, been using their pillow for about a year and a half so far, and just recently picked up the foamy wide for my forester, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how it is soon.
Yeah I wish I had this mattress when I used to have a forester and slept in the bed. Hopefully it works out great for you! The pillow is great, was too filled for my liking when I first got it but I removed some filling and it’s perfect.
@@OXFOOTI'm sure it will! Thought it was gonna be a bit too big in the Subaru, but realized I have a self inflating mattress I won in a contest that's the same size that worked just fine. The struts are something on my radar. I’m still debating just starting from scratch and going with drawers. I really just prefer at least 1 drawer when camping. If you pull them out you get a little more prep surface when cooking. That being said until then, struts may be the way.
Yeah I want to do the webbing above the bed as well. I’ve also seen people add shelves up top by using the rack mounting bolts that come through to the roof of the camper.
Yeah I want to do the drawer but I may have to start over first that. The structure is compromised from the top if I wanted to build a drawer. Realistically I guess I could just use a new top and cut it to the shape of the one I have now.
So far I’ve been really happy with this set up. For sure need to get some better window insulation going for sure but I’m loving the truck bed camping.

Sweet build, very similar to what I plan on doing next with my Tacoma. What is the light you have inside the topper that comes on when you open the back?
I think about it sometimes but I made my choice oh well. The point of not having them on both sides was to test and I think having them open on both sides would be the way to go if I’m doing it again.

I think it's better to buy an SUV if you're going to close off the bed. SUV is much better because you can just fold the rear seats, and put the mattress. Less problems. And you can stay warm.
I used to have an SUV and imo it’s no comparison. The back of an SUV isn’t going to be flat so you’ll have to build a platform that will take up the entire back seat. My truck says about 16 most of the time. It’s worse in the city but slightly better on the highway. Yeah last spring. Couldn’t afford both. Going to get a 3rd gen at some point soon.
What kinda mpg you getting ?
My truck says about 16 most of the time. It’s worse in the city but slightly better on the highway. Denver is weird because it’s so mountainous I can get anywhere from 30 going down mountain to like 8 going up steep mountains even on highways. Generally around 16-17. My tires aren’t crazy different from stock at 35”.
