Vortex Viper PST Gen II 1-6

- The Vortex Viper PST Gen II 1-6 is a low power variable optic at a great price point. There's some higher (and lower) end options in the LPVO space, but for less than $1000 this currently gets my vote as the winner. Evidence to that fact, it's the LPVO I decided to buy. The 1911 Syndicate is a niche real estate company. No, we don't just work with clients who need off grid properties or to rent space for a gun shop. Almost all of our clients are shooters/military/LEO's/hunters and outdoorsmen who need to buy or sell a house. You should use us because we're actually good at our job, fortunately, the side bonus is that we all share a love of common interests. All of our clients get treated to custom knives when they buy their house, and private events. All of our 2019 clients got to partake in an end of year private CQB course. We operate in Utah and Arizona.

LPVO on a quick release mount + flip up irons = modern combat rifle
Offset red dot instead
I run my LPVO with canted Irons. Realistically, you can take a LPVO off of a rifle without a QD mount if your mount has the scope bedded and leveled. Mount is going to same rail sections, same torque. Still going to be very combat effective IF you have to remove it for whatever reason.
I got one of these and put it on my Aero Precision M5E1 and I really like it a lot so far. A lot of people said I should have gotten a scope with a lot more power but where I am in the Carolinas, field of view is a little more important than range; mostly because you're not likely going to be shooting longer ranges than 100 or 200 yards with the exception of some private ranges. The Viper 2-10 will probably go on another build later.
just picked it up for my 13.9 build. i can’t wait to get it dialed in. great review 😎🙏🏽
I’ve been looking into one of these for my lwrc di rifle. I’ve thought about 1-6 as my 1-4 leupold could use a tad bit more magnification for fun. I don’t want to go to high, as I don’t like to spend forever squinting to try to find a reticle.
This seems like the perfect buy for what I’m looking for. 25-50yard plinking and occasional 100-200 yard target shooting.
Enjoyed the commentary. Thank you for posting
Just bought an LWRC and topping it with one of these scopes. How are you feeling a year later?
Great video. Coming from the same place as a red dot guy with an Aimpoint Pro dipping my toes into LPVOs. You outlined everything I wanted to know, very helpful. Thanks!
“Gun guy retard rabbit hole” sir now you have my attention. - sub
The rabbit hole is real
My thoughts exactly.😂😂 that’s the phrase that earned the sub
The got my subscribe too.
Great video. I have a Strike Eagle, Viper PST, and a Razor 1-6x. I can’t tell the difference between the Razor and Viper glass. Both are as bright as my T-1 as well. Since I could buy 2 Vipers for the price of one Razor, it’s my pick as well.
I get it, it's a great bang for your buck optic, but it doesn't feel cheap
Great video we need to see more on this setup !
Just slapped one of these on my Henry AW 45-70. Amazing glass and super crisp red dot. I’m excited for hunting season
1-6X is def the sweet spot for a "do all" LPVO.
I see a lot of "Gen 3, 1-10X Vortex Razor's" for sale on Equipment Exchanges. Everything's a trade off; a 1-8X 1-10X you lose field of view and have "eyebox" issues with increased upper end magnification.
On a 5.56 most folks will never have a shot beyond 300 yds, a 1-6X cover zero to 400 yds nicely.
Great review and video man. New sub and looking forward to your weekly content.
Welcome aboard!
Nice review, give it raw! Question tho? Do you enjoy the scopes ability To from 1-6 and dial your AR in? Also does this not have a green setting as wells thought that did
You made some good points in this particular video. Nicely done.
🍻
That receiver set looks really nice!
I would love to have one of these new Vipers but I just purchased a gen 1 Vortex Viper 1-4 under $400. These are great glass for the price.
I had the gen1 1-4 and yeah it was real nice. I now have a gen2 2-10 on a precision AR with a Magpul PRC stock and a 18” Seekins stainless barrel. It’s heavy but a sweet shooter.
Love ur doggo and great review! Thanks
Thanks!
Great review, right on point!
Great video and thoughts. Definitely relatable. Subscribed
Thanks man!
I love those ADM mounts but it weighs 9oz 😦 with a scope this heavy I went with the Aero Precision super lightweight mount. It comes in at 3oz and change. So saving 6 oz’s on the mount should help offset some the PST’s heft.
I’m looking at this for my SCAR17, will it handle the recoil of a 308?
Purchased this with the vortex mount. Replacing a holo and magnifier setup. Kind of excited. If I like it i may switch all my other firearms to this or try out the primary arms raptor
I def think red dots still make sense most of the time, but LPVO's have a place also
Burris RT6 or Primary arms is the best entry level but for mid grade the Vortex Viper PSTII or Steiner P4Xi are the best and for top tier the Vortex Razor HD or Sig Sauer Tango 6T is where its at!
Nightforce ATACR probably more high end.
There is a pretty good price difference between this 1-6 Gen 2 and the original generation 1 : 1-4. Any thoughts on that brother
I haven't shot the original one so not really
New sub. First saw the pestilence vid and stayed for the left handed ginger attitude 👍🏼
My attitude is shit, its well documented, but thanks for watching lol
1911 Syndicate exactly 🤣
LMAO “acquisition”. I had to hit auto spell and ask for help on that one. Impressed!
Good shit man
Great video. Would love to see a comparison between this and the Primary Arms SLX 1-8 FFP ACSS @ $580.
Would if I can get my hands on one
@@1911syndicate you can order one at primaryarms.com. LOL I am on the fence about an LPVO and would be curious to hear your thoughts on the ACSS reticle which seems to be held in high regard.
Is that a Mal or dutchie in the background ? Great dogs either way
I like how you give straight forward opinion👍 I don’t give a shit what you do with your $$$😂
Lol 🤷🏼♂️
So I just picked one of these up. I'll tell you my logic compared to higher end scopes like the viper 1-10 etc.:
Think of your platform and its accuracy. I'm throwing mine on a Tavor 7. reportedly 1.5 moa at best. So while I purchased this quality optic, I couldn't rationalize anything higher as the rifle won't keep up with the optic.
If I were to maybe go to a semi auto AR10 that had some precision to it...I would likely spend more.
Inversely...if your shooting a small caliber. Maybe don't drop 3k on the optic. 5.56/.223 etc can go 5-600 meters. but really. your playing between 0m and 300m - if that. So what will 3k scopes get you that a 1k scope won't?
Oh yea on 223 I wouldn’t run a 3k optic
Agreed.
Bro straight up, I hit the follow button simply because I like your personality/stupid dad jokes.
They’re excellent dad jokes
Just got one a few weeks ago, she's a beaut
Yep
I wish you had a promo code too.
Great vid, as always.
I will sell my soul for a promo code
@@1911syndicate everybody knows ginger's don't have souls, so you'll have to collect someone elses' You're in Utah, just steal Nutnfancy's and do everyone a favor.
Those sunglasses look awesome.
Well you can thank Magpul
What mount are you using?
Dam'it you're going to make me buy those shades. THIS IS NOT WHAT I CAME HERE FOR!!!
Haha
The price doesn't matter. I read an article stating that the SF guys will buy their own LPVO and many of them buy the Strike Eagles due to cost. They don't have the money to buy the high end stuff. Shit if the SF guys can run Strike Eagles then a Viper PST should be fine.
I read the same article. It did suprise me that SOF guys dont have money for a razor. I did buy this scope on the end. I am loving it.
Did you think that because youre a SOF member that you magically get paid more? Lol jump and dive only gives a very small bonus.
@@channeellll7623 No. I did not think that. I thought they were given the best equipment. I didn't think SOF guys had to buy their own equipment. I also didn't think they would be given shit equipment.
My other point was that if a Strike Eagle is good enough for SOF then it's probably more than enough for the average person.
I personally dont like the strike eagle, and they are supposed to be given good quality gear, and for their deployments, almost everyone I know personally, runs or did use an Eotech, Aimpoint micro, elcan, acog, vortex HD, or Nightforce, but on their personally owned guns, didnt have the coin to afford what they used while working for the DoD.

So, as a guy that has Nighthawk 1911s, you recommend this, especially for someone who has never played around with LPVOs? I might go ahead and upgrade to this for my 14.5". Thanks for the review.
Rock n roll
Can anyone tell me the recommended zero for this optic? I just bought the mrad version.
what scope mount?
Strike eagle owners:
This guy: boom, roasted.
"I don't give a s**t what you do with your money" - lol
would a MBUS rear sight fit behind it and still keep it in the proper position???
Doesn't appear so, when this was mounted I don't remember thinking there was room for non offset irons
@@1911syndicate thank you for the response love your channel
What Mount are you using on this video?
Nice video. Subscribed.
🤙🏻
1-4 haaaaa had me laughing. I always thought the same..
2008 wants their 1-4 back
New sub, good stuff dude. hope to see this channel grow and that you get purchased by some company
Haha thanks, and I don't want to purchased, they'll make me clean up my act
Lol I like your review style.
Gracias
As far as i know, cannot get this in FFP which i don't think was addressed and is a consideration for some.
@Tammy Elizabeth FFP is first focal plane, not a color. 😉😂
Ffp=garbage
What's that mount? ADM Delta C?
I run mine in the h model
They just need to update the reticle and I'll get one
U cheeky bastard 😜 Well done.
Was that a Recon Jack on your shirt?
No
7:25 I just don’t understand how they can’t make a decent product for that price considering my leupold vx freedom 3-9x40 cost me I believe 200 maybe 250 and has been phenomenal
That’s also what I’m looking at. I’m used to that as a hunting optic and seem just fine, in a lot of cases better than a 1-6. My question is do you really need the low end 1-3x magnification? I’m not defending my house with this, just putting holes in paper at 100 yds
Entirely different philosophy of use...... For optics like this you're paying more for the ability to have a good 1x and a daylight bright red dot, with the ability to zoom into 6 for farther jobs
What is the battery life on this thing?
Not great, in 3 weeks I believe we have a video coming out that will have that optic in it again
@@1911syndicate thanks for the reply
1 person got butthurt when you roasted their strike eagle
Truth hurts
Left out Steiner
The new 1-10x comes with the throw lever now FYI. Street price is around $1700 for the Gen 3 1-10x where the 1-6x Gen II-e is around $1200-$1250.
I don't think the Razor HD gen II-e 1-6x is worth more than double the Viper PST gen 2. The viper is an amazingly Chrystal clear daytime bright optic. So is the HD gen II-e. So in my opinion wheres the extra $800 come from is what I wanna know.
You're right though he is off on his prices. The Viper PST is $599 all day long street price. $60 for throw lever and $150 if you wanna waste money on a mount or $75 if you go with an Aero thats just as good. The HD gen II-e is $1,399. If I was spending that kinda money, id save more and get the new 1-10x.
900 was optic mount and throw lever
@@SkinnySkinch aero mount is hot garbage
@@randylahey2242 i have been getting good results with them. Losing zero or breaking?
4:21 you can tell the future can’t you.
“Gun Guy 🅱️etard Rabbit Hole” new RUclips channel name I call it
5:53. And here begins the tale as old as time: RUclipsr making shit up based on zero firsthand experience or background research.
The US Green Berets used this optic heavily in Afghanistan on their Block II rifles. They even used Strike Eagles, which are cheaper. See anything from the articles written by Jeff Gurwitch (Green Beret).
4:00 orrrrr maybe you just can’t find any batteries???🧐
Louis C.K. called, he wants his voice back.
He can’t have it
