- hello everyone ! in this tutorial I show you a great exercise for the right hand, helpful with the string crossing, legato with almost no bow and much more, in general will make your playing much more efficient. I hope it helps! happy practicing!
Madre de dios, estos tips valen oro. ¡Muchas gracias, Pablo!
Every time you upload a video I remember how lucky we are to be able to listen to your technical and musical advice.
You also explain it very clearly and simply, which makes them very easy to understand. Thank you very much once again!!
Thanks so much! I’m happy it helps in any way! :)
I'm a cellist and teacher of pre-college students. I am so impressed and grateful for your generosity in sharing your practice videos which my students love. I have enjoyed watching your career blossom since watching you at the Tchaikovsky competition. I thought you should have won! SO happy to see your career take off and your warm and generous spirit come through in these excellent tutorials. Bravo and thank you!
Excellent content! So useful. Makes me want to go practice.
On Violin, this is called Colle/aka finger stroke - I don't see too many references to this on the Cello with internet queries, I wonder why.... thank you so much! This is very helpful.
Totally agree! I use it too and developed exactly what Pablo is talking about in the course of my professional career 😅
This video is as well presented as your playing.
I’ve been trying to explain to my son string-crossing with the fingers…now I can just show him your super clear video. Thank you!!!
Pablo, I was taught this technique by my teacher Ian Bewley who was a pupil of Vilmos Palotai of Hungarian quartet. Palotai was number three in the cello section of the Berlin Phil when Feuermann was number one and Piatigorsky number 2. What an amazing cello section it must have been! Later on I learnt this again from a student of Janos Starker who also taught this technique. So happy you are sharing your wonderful knowledge with SO many people. Also thrilled there are cellists like you on the cello scene right now as it means the cello is in a excellent hands for the next generation to come. Perhaps a video on focus on your approach and thoughts on how you use your the whole body to produce a big dynamic sound. C21st cellists don't just use their arms in tone production. Big tone is not just a product of the arms but comes from the back etc. So any ideas on this would be worth sharing on a video. Bravo for your perceptive insights! Long may they continue to inspire cellists all round the world!
Greeting from Muscat Oman bro..I am a serboardist and your teachings ate helpful to me
Buenísimo! Muchas gracias! 🇨🇱

Excelente Pablo. Justo hoy pensaba: tus STRONG FINGERS (mano izq) han cambiado mi vida... y mi afinación. Crezco con cada recomendación tuya. Gracias!
This is such a great topic which is not often addressed!
Me encantó Pablo!
Love it! Will definitely try it
J Starker tought to keep the elbow on the higher string position and moving the forearm instead of the arm
Thank you very much! I have been struggling with fast string crossings in the 3rd mov of the Haydn D major, and after I added this to my daily practice, I realized how much unnecessary movement I had which was slowing me down. This was a great help
Very useful tip! Thanks!
Felicidades
Pablo, I like your teaching style. It's engaging and welcoming. BRAVO BRO-CHACO!

I would looooove to see a video from you on left hand precision, angles, elbow position, fingertip contact point, etc.
Wonderful! This is a technique that I've recently been introduced to, but you've shown how widely applicable it can be! Thank you very much 🙏
Gracias Pablo
Thanks so much for this. I think it’s going to be really helpful
You are awesome for doing these videos!!!
very masterful 👌
Thank you Pablo🙏💙
Thank you so much. Your insight is very helpful and valuable. We all appreciate it so much. It's like having a 5 min master class. I'm working on Rococo, Cassado solo sonata and Beethoven Sonata C maj. Maybe if you have time you can address some of the technical aspects in the last variation in Rococo please?
Solid tips! Would it be possible to balance the volume levels between speech and playing? The volume levels of your playing examples on the cello average at -5 dB, whereas the speech is much lower, at around -15 dB.
Gracias!!!
Hi Pablo, just want to ask what do you do if you have a mental block/find it difficult to focus on playing/practicing?
This is very effective, especially for me who lacks sensitivity in the right hand
Merci Pablo.
Thanks a lot! 👏👏👏🎵🎶🎻
Hola pablo! ¡Gran video! ¡Gracias!
Thank you very much...
Awesome! makes perfect sense but really helps to have it laid out clearly like this. Will definitely be making sure I add this to my approach. ;p Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Today is my first cello lessons. And I am adult beginner age 38. I wish that I never give up on cello.. seems today quite hard for me. My shoulder feels tense and tired . And my right finger are too stiff with a bow. Hrmmm.. I try keep practice to touch a bow with the right position everyday.
thank you so much!!
If arm is short and the bow cannot reach the top when pulling the A string. What should I do 😭😭
I think we have same problem.. hehe.. probably consider to change cello size. 7/8?
@@wishyouwerehere82 My teacher told me , turn the cello to your right a little bit, good luck for you ✊✊✊
