  • Here's what you can do if you have a huge belly that's not actually fat.
    Timestamps:
    0:00 A non-fat belly (ascites)
    0:44 Cirrhosis
    1:40 What you could do
    Do you have a huge belly, but it's not fat? A non-fat belly (ascites), is a condition where a person has a protruded stomach, but it's not coming from fat. It's coming from fluids.
    This type of protruded stomach is caused by a damaged liver. The damaged liver is causing leakage of fluid and accumulation of a protein fluid in the abdominal cavity.
    With this condition, there is a replacement of the normal healthy liver cells with fibrous scar tissue, and you end up losing the function of the liver cells.
    Cirrhosis doesn't happen overnight. It takes years to develop. This could happen from consuming alcohol, or from years of poor eating. It usually starts with inflammation, and typically the person will have a fatty liver as well. The inflammation is part of an immune response, and the body heals with scar tissue.
    Typically, what's done medically, is the lower the person's sodium, and put them on diuretics.
    Here are a few natural things you can do:
    1. Lower your carbohydrates
    2. Stop consuming alcohol
    3. Consume moderate protein and fat
    4. Consume cruciferous vegetables
    5. Intermittent fasting
    6. Give it time (3 years)

    I had Ascites. It came about a week after I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. I screwed up big time. I was drinking a handle of vodka a day for about 3 years. Ascites came back 3 different times. It was so bad that they had to stick a hose in between my ribs and pump fluid from my stomach while i watched. On one of the occasions, they pumped over 60 ounces from my stomach. I walked into the hospital looking like a pregnant man. I walked out feeling like the world was lifted off of my shoulders. 8 years sober. It hasn't been easy. But, I'm lucky to be here. I lost everything. But I have slowly progressed. I do not have a high school education, my family cut me off. Bit I stayed strong. Bought a house about 5 years later. I only had 60 dollars to my name when I was diagnosed. If I can do it, trust me, you can too. I promise

    • @richhoops2413
      @richhoops2413 Месяц назад

      @LostTVinc It was bad. I tried to quit cold turkey. I had nightmares for over a week when I was admitted to the hospital I couldn't walk without my walker. I couldn't see my own feet due to my belly being so bloated. I remember almost being restrained at the hospital because I was going into random hospital rooms and trying to talk to sick patients, who I did not know. They put me on about 11 different medications. I'm only taking 2 now.

      Good for you! So proud of you for hanging in there and doing the right thing to get better. Don't worry about your family and friends, they'll come around when you've proven to them that you really have changed. Starting out with only $60 and now own a home, that's a great start! Good for you! Now go and get your GED and they will really be impressed. I helped someone get their GED, it was easy, and I can't believe how much better he felt about himself. You can purchase the GED book online and study it, then take the test. Then, why not sign up for Jr. College and get an AA. I did. Only took me 5 Semesters. Once I received my AA, I got a huge promotion at work from a technical writer to a software test engineer. Retired now, but I really enjoyed my career. May the Lord bless your future path. We all mess up in life, but the Lord will help us get on the right path if we trust Him and do the right thing.

    My dad passed away due to alcohol. His liver gave out , but the bloating of the belly was rather fast. He had no pain no symptoms before this happened. He was 55 and had been consuming alcohol since age of 18. The quantity that he consumed grew over the years until it got back down to just 1 or 2 beers and he would be drunk. At that point I think it started , when he was not able to drink more than 2 beers without getting drunk. If anyone knows cases like this , watch out, let them know , it is never too late to stop, the transition will be hard, being sober will be hard for them but it will save their lives.

That causes a person to get drunk Easily. I'm sorry about your father. you have my condolences. My dad died from alcohol too so I understand. He was 64 and died in 2008.

    This is brilliant! Not only does he explain it to us non-Doctors so we can follow but he does so in a calm, well spoken manner that helps us to absorb the information for our own brain to process. I was a Bartender so saw many men and women who had this toxic fat belly condition from too much alcohol but they weren't fat all over. They all looked many years older than they were and either stopped their destructive behaviour or died relatively quickly. If they were in their 20's their youthful beauty faded fast and many died before they were 40.

      So disgusting that people are not told about how diet can repair most ailments, just pumped us full of meds. The medical, like most aspects of the US economy is about exploiting people the masses to make money. Could you imagine what would happen if they found a cure for cancer, trillions of lost revenue for the rich and powerful...that is why they only find meds to "help deal with the symptoms", rarely fix anything. Diabetes, heart disease, arthritis...just pimp them full of anti inflammatory meds and then watch the myriad of side effects. Instead they could deal with the cause of the inflammation, but where is the profit in that? This should be a touch stone for people to see how the system works, and why we all need to be the masters of our own bodies, minds and finances (and raise our own children/community).

I buy organic as much as I can. Do apple cider vinegar caps with every meal, take a liver refresh complex caps (w/Milk Thistle)and just started Bile. These things with intermittent fasting and bone broth (home made) have improved my health tremendously. My last DR visit every lab was PERFECT for the first time EVER. I got off 2 meds. • @tjfSIM
      @tjfSIM 3 года назад +41

      Drinking a gallon of water a day is completely unnecessary. Perhaps your body is made from some perforated material and you can’t retain water, but for the majority of people, drinking excessive amounts of water has no health benefits and can actually be dangerous. The body is actually very good at telling you when it needs water - this obsession people have with over-hydrating is very worrying. Wouldn’t be surprised if the bottled water companies are propagating such baseless claims for their own profit.

    • @Ron_the_Skeptic
      @Ron_the_Skeptic 3 года назад +10

      @@tjfSIM, it probably depends upon how large you are. The doctor told me to drink 3 to 4 litres a day. That's 0.66 to 0.88 of an Imperial gallon, or 0.79 to 1.06 of a US gallon. In my case it is to flush oxalates, but it flushes electrolytes as well, so I consume a lot of salt. Sometimes instead of salt I take an electrolyte formula, or drink black coffee.

    • @tjfSIM
      @tjfSIM 3 года назад +19

      @@Ron_the_Skeptic Fair enough - sorry if my comment seemed a bit overly critical. Of course there will be exceptions to the rule, and if your doctor has told you to drink that amount the clearly you have good reason for needing it. The general rule for most people is around 6-8 glasses of water per day, or 1.2 -1.8 litres. Or just when you feel thirsty. There was this detox fad a few years back where people were being encouraged to flood themselves with bottled water, in order to flush out toxins. It was complete nonsense, and people were collapsing because they were diluting their electrolyte levels too much.

    Thank you again, Dr. Berg. I'm following your guide to the letter. Thank God for people like yourself! I owe you a great amount of gratitude for assembling these videos and sharing your wealth of knowledge with us. I have had fatty liver since the age of 22. I was never super fat, but overweight by 40 pounds. The doctors who I visited back in the early 80's would tell me that my enzymes were high, but not to worry about it because it was just a condition called fatty liver. Fast forward to 2022.... I went in for a routine endoscopy, and the doctor performing the procedure told me that she suspects that I have stage 4 cirrhosis! I immediately visited a liver specialist who ordered a huge amount of blood work and he also performed a special echo. He confirmed that my liver was loaded with scarring. That said, I have zero symptoms and feel fit as an ox. He ordered a special diet to try to avoid further damage as my liver is still working correctly. After seeing your videos, I have really cracked down and have lost around 20 pounds. I still have another 25 pounds to go. The strange thing is that my siblings also have high liver enzymes and my dad died from a non functioning liver back in 1984. I don't think that transplants were done back then. Thank you again!

    Thank you for this video. My friend's mom just passed on 1/31/19 from end stage liver disease. She had been on medication years prior but her doctor told her that her condition had improved to the point she no longer needed medication. Then years later she started getting the belly full of fluid and doctors could not figure out what it was or where it was coming from. They drew some and tested it but their results were inconclusive. Their solution was to drain the fluid every two or three weeks, endoscopy every 6 months, and a few other things. She decided she had enough and didn't seek treatment. She wasn't in any pain and still had an appetite but was very weak and could no longer walk so she was bed ridden for the rest of her life. Sadly she passed about two months after her belly was filling with the liver fluid you mentioned here.
    I had researched what we could do alternatively but there was nothing I could find to help.
    Somehow I found this video, I'm not sure how? I have seen a lot of your videos before so maybe it was suggested?
    I have another friend who's wife is going in because she is dropping weight, has the belly, is getting weak legs and is falling a lot. So far doctors don't understand what is going on and she is set to go for fluid withdraw and testing. I think this video will help him.
    Thank you.!

I had to consider this last year when I had a cancerous growth in my cirrhotic liver. My fluids collect in my right pleural cavity rather than in my belly, just as inconvenient! Time is the healer, time to reflect, time to consider the options, time to plan the next stages and time to recover. Nice short introduction to the complexities of cirrhosis.

    Back in February I quit drinking after over a decade of abusing alcohol and I'm still in a rehab program. Since then I lost 20 lbs and my liver enzymes have gone down to the normal level. The main reason I quit was because after a weeklong bender I was in the hospital with acute pancreatitis which was my wakeup call. Fortunately it seems no permanent damage was done to my internal organs but my brain is still recovering. This video stood out to me because quitting alcohol is listed as one of the necessary actions to reduce this problem and I definitely saw results.

    I have cirrhosis, partly due to being a long time abuser of alcohol and partly due to Lupus. I'm 52 and I don't get a lot of exercise, rhematoid arthritis doesn't help either, but I will own my entire part of my disease. It's VERY hard to stop doing something you've done for more than half your life, but unless you want that life to end, it's best to do what ever you can to replace the bad habits with better ones, including diet. Quitting alcohol is is just one part of healing a damaged liver. A poor diet can do just as significant damage over a period of time.

My body was fit but my belly and love handles/hips were huge and jiggly from water retention. I got sober for a few months, saw some weight loss in the first month but still had a big belly. I was losing hope big time because my belly was still jiggly after a few months despite the pounds on the scale going down. And all of a sudden, in the blink of an eye it felt like, the duration of about one week during about month 4 or 5 of sobriety weight, whether it be water or fat I just dont know, but the inches were absolutely flying off my belly and hips. Within a week I was going from a size 38 waist all the way down to a 34! I havent fit in a 34 since the army 15 years ago. Point is, try and stay sober! Other symptoms of cirrhosis include: fatigue, abdominal pain and discomfort, easy bleeding or bruising, loss of appetite, nausea, swelling of the legs feet and ankles, weight loss, yellow skin discoloration, and a significant increase in liver cancer risk. If the only symptom you have is a pot belly, it's most likely visceral fat-- not cirrhosis. Due to genetic differences some store fat differently. Some get larger and squishier each year(larger fat cells close to the skins surface) while others stay thin everywhere but their stomach (small, far more compact fat cells deeper under the skin). I had no idea why my Mom started to look pregnant all of the sudden. Then she died of liver failure. I was 9 months pregnant with my first born child. He is now 7 and I have two more children. Vodka stole my mama.

    I had some liver value of 2.6, went on low carb diet for about a year, after half year i had 1.2 and after a full year i had 0.6. Also i did a lof of IF during LCHF. Did eat a lot of red meat. IF and low carb solves a lot of problems ive noticed.

    What I've learned from Dr. Berg is to address the underlying cause. This has really made me grow as a person, not just when it comes to nutrition. I'm carnivore/ketovore now after 2 years on this journey and I get bombarded with "but vegans get nutrients from plants, it's healthy" and you know all that (not trying to spread vegan hate, just an example). My response now sounds more like "ok but have you looked at your ability to absorb those nutrients since they are in plant form?" --> it's not as simple as "plant has calories therefore it's healthy". I'm not trying to go on some carnivore rant here as I know fully well you guys are not too into that haha (I followed Dr.Berg's version of keto so I know ;) ) but what I'm trying to say is that his perspective, the way he does things, has really helped me. Never be satisfied with an answer until it makes sense froms several different angles.

      He’s talking about alcoholics who have to go to the hospital every couple weeks to get it drained. Once that happens there’s nothing you can eat that’ll change that why he’s claiming diet can change that it is very suspicious.

    I used to eat 8-10c of veggies or salad a day (yes cruciferous) and hit a huge plateau, bloating was getting worse. So I upped my fat, lowered my veggies to 3c a day no more salad and upped my protein from 4oz to 5-6oz and broke my plateau, rarely bloat, no more constipation (sorry about the TMI) NO MORE HEART PALPS either. Hmmm It sure is NOT a one size fits all! Good day all!

      i think what that shows is that, as counterintuitive as it may sound, that it is actually possible to eat too many vegetables. one should make sure to eat one to two pounds of vegetables each day, but then call it a day and make sure to not eat any more vegetables (nor any other carbohydrates) more than that. the idea is to limit one's daily net carbs to 75 grams for men, and 50 grams for women, even if the carbs that one is eating are the healthiest kind, namely vegetables

    • @mosescordovero8163
      @mosescordovero8163 3 года назад +6

      you shouldnt increase your protein intake. just decrease your carbohydrates, and increase your dietary fat just a little bit

      You would do well learning Ayurveda - Then understand that your body type likely has many vata issues. You can still do plenty of vegetables - but only eat raw in very small amounts - The rest mostly cooked to some degree, to make them more soft - no bloating. That changes too throughout the different seasons and times of day - and period of your life.
