Thank you for creating this video. I've been wondering about maturing and re-spawining. Like I need some bigger, fatter (more stars) badgers to complete an early quest. Now I'm going to be more selective about what I shoot.
Just did yesterday, it’s a lot to get the hang of but so far I like it more than COTW. First thing to do is get the $3k scope so you can actually shoot more than 50 yards accurately.
@@Gruntly Update: I've been enjoying it a bunch playing every night. Jumped right into Ranger difficulty. I hunt a bit IRL so I enjoy how you can get rid of the supernatural abilities. Herd management is basically impossible on Ranger for anything without antlers, but that is ok. Game does a lot of stuff well.

Thanks for checking out the video James! Hunting games are usually the best way to observe animals in a virtual way. The game doesn't necessarily lock you into being a hunter either and Way of the Hunter has a great photo mode so you can easily just walk around taking photos of animals in the game too!
Great video 👍🏽 this game is amazing at first it was a shock playing it coming from hunter Cotw it’s closer to real hunting with a slower pace both are dope in their own way
Honestly I would love to hunt Elk, I am an South African hunter and that is my dream hunt in real life. Just stumbled upon your channel and I enjoyed the video. Gained a sub💥
I’ve been one of the lucky ones to have the opportunity to go on a elk hunt and let me tell you bro it is what dreams are made of. Massive herds of elk resting on hills, bugling before sunrise, and scurrying along the plains. Seeing the animals up close through binoculars is something you will remember forever or at least I will. I hope that you will get to experience your dream hunt.
Only ross goose in nez perce my lodge dont have 5 star..im struggling 3 day find this ross goose 5 star and i do all tips and herd management guide in the video..still dont have it until now
I really like the idea of way of the hunter but seems like execution is a bit lacking, bullets do not carry the same kinetic energy over distance as they do when they leave the barrel unlike in the game where it is flat until it impacts the animal. Which is why irl animals will be knocked down at distance rather than the bullet passing through up close, because it has lost too much energy. Then the lack of 'actual' tracks would make it difficult to find animals if you can not see or hear them. For what is supposed to be a realistic hunting game I hope these are fixed in the future. These are just a couple of things I noticed watching videos but I will most likely still purchase it in the future given that 800+ meter draw distance

I know they could grow into 2-3 stars, but then the cycle just repeats. At what star level should I leave the adult male alive? Or should I test the low tier calling option to see if the adult male is low % genetically, and kill it if it comes?
Hey! I find that using the low tier caller is a great option to reduce low genetic males in a herd. It's more exciting seeing an animal not come in to a call opposed to an animal that does ahahahah

Great vid......... I am struggling with the game and not seeing many herds let alone selecting which ones to kill. I find the elk and the bighorns really easily spooked. I am in the croach / prone position a lot with favourable wind direction but still spook some animals. Any tips for regularly finding herds? I find once i kill one animal they leave and don't return? Any help would be great as I am not enjoying it that much 40 hours in.
Anytime you shoot an animal the herd will only run a short distance off about 2-400 yds. If you are wuiet retrieving kills you can get multiple. Also longer range shots tend to not scare them so far. Also the binoculars help a ton constantly glass where you are walking and glass all clearings and water edges.

I think the tracking is already great as it is. What would you want changed? Other than the odd bug of the blood disappearing or having the ability to change the track colour I have no issues with it.
typing along as I watch your content. in the game and even devs diary say hunting males is key. getting rid of low gene pools will increase high gene, after any high gene kill you should kill a few low gene males. killing females can cause what i would call extinction. otherwards just not spawn in the location of need zones. after the patch the gray wolves I been hunting no longer come to the need zone I been hunting. I rest almost 3 weeks in game time. not to age animals but to make sure hunting pressure was reduced since it is increased after shooting animals in the need zone more so than out of need zone. yes, I know resting no longer increases animal age. as of right now I have spotted 4-star wolves in other areas that are young males. I also found a young male elk that is already 5 stars. no, I have not killed him yet. but I played the game after patch from 1230pm to 1am and none of these animals even became adults yet in my experience and after about 4 hrs. today well typing this these animals are still young males?? I am currently at 120hrs of game time. I know this was posted before patch but it's weird that my animals are not aging... patch bug?
It's likely because you aren't filling out the days there are two timescales the sleep and fast travel timescale is separate from the animals life cycle time scale as far as ive noticed. I've found that just filling out the day by traveling to New areas and managing and discovering new herds and groups of animals keeps me busy and after doing that a few in game days and I check back on my other herds they've grown and changed noticeably. If your just sleeping away the days I doubt you'd notice as many changes as when you actually play the days out. I'm sure the devs made it this way so that someone couldn't just sleep the game away to get faster results .

How the hell are you standing 200 yd away up wind of them and standing fully upright without them running. I could be crouched moving at half speed of crouched behind a hill at 250 yd and they still get spooked.
@@Gruntly im playing on adventurer too, one thing i think i was missing was trying to arrive at need zones before they arrive and wait. since ive started doing that it has been easier.
That Moose chart conflict with the games in-game information. I dont know 100% how it works just putting that out there but when looking at animal information it shows there expected age for each stage and when comparing to this chart the mature stage dosent look right. The mature stage are supposed to be the longest for the animals or close to the adult stage atleast but its not even close. The females are even worse with 14 days of adult life but only 4-5 of mature. The mature stage looks to be alot shorter then what the in-game information will make u belive so if there is 2 4-star moose in a herd and u have slept to pass time 3-4 times u might wanna take 1 out becouse odds are they are not gonna last another day if u sleep. Its abit anoying that there isent any good in-game way to document what is at each zone to keep track of high potential herds. U can drop a marker but u dont need that to know there location so an in-game ledger of some kind would have been perfect for this game as the caracter isent just there to hunt. He is there to keep the animal population healthy and run a buisness from it. I hope they add something like that in a patch or in 1 of the DLC maps that is coming. That would also be a great way to distinguish itself even more from COTW.
Hello mate i am arbian guy from UAE I AM INTERESTED in this game but i have question , if i shot the deer mature with 1 star is that make the deer with 3 star growing after ..... 1 sleep=23 hours but play in the world 1 hour I dont know if you understand me but I do my best to make good question 😅
If you shoot a 1 star mature, you are taking a good cull buck but it doesn't mean it will respawn as a 3 star buck. Genetics can take a few generations to build up through smart management :)
Your video's on the game are definitely informative! Enjoying the content. Keep up the good work!! Also, would definitely love to hunt some white tail on PC if I win the giveaway, but I'm not sure if I'm too late lol
I have 73 hrs into the game. Haven't played in almost a week so that tells you how hard I went the first week. Everything presented has been true in my experience. Can't wait until everyone fills their lodge with trophies and we can start some sort of world record system for total trophy points. Anyway, great work on your content and I'm glad you were able to compile these findings. Heres my biggest trophy yet and it happened to be my first 5 star. Got alot of 5 stars on the map rn just waiting to see those signs of very old age. ruclips.net/video/RT6ajsueAoU/видео.html
Tree stands would have been great for killing badgers just saying, but for a year old I guess it is what it is glad I didn't full price for this game haha
I'm mostly shooting the mature females or some adults that don't look too special and have only seen a few 4 stars and one five star. After some good 25+ hours into the game.
The most stupid mech In a game game manage for whitetails when you see a old buck or a buck that has no chance of being a awsome rack you take them out. Easy to do because they tend to stay In place. Mule deer don't live like that some years you will see them some years you won't mule deer are like always moving they go where they like or just happen to be there....you really can't game manage mule deer like whitetail and that goes for elk also.
I'll be honest, I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about the mechanic but it's good to get other opinions. You do make sense though, animals to tend to move around just like you say. Thanks for the comment!
@@Gruntly You can't game manage deer every season Is different for white tails you can manage them some, but most trophy ranches take out older bucks .Bucks that have antlers that are regressing or strange looking less size for the year of the deer I have killed so many deer In and around Calif,Nevada, montana where whitetails and mule deer are together , wyoming lots of whitetails,. When your hunting you don't pic and choose when tags are 400.00 dollars. game management can be done most times with a high fence.......Hunters In large don't game mange herds not when It cost 800 dollars tom leave your state to hunt bucks to go deer hunting any where but hunting whitetails In your back yard is cheap. For me to go up north to the calif ,oregon border 800.00 dollars for a 10 day hunt or more.......You can be choosy but you only have so much time....
In the game in the encyclopedia it says shooting female animals can reduce the animal population. I would highly suggest not shooting females unless there is a story mission that requires it. I would think a RUclipsr would’ve at least gone through the encyclopedia before giving information out. At the same time It seems that most players are not reading anything in the encyclopedia.
I think this is the aspect of the game I like the least. It's a hunting game. IMO you should be able to shoot animals with large racks without worrying about that degrading your future game kills. Just let the players play and shoot the big animals, c'mon it's a game. I like a random spawn model as opposed to this.
But when you're able to swing the genetics in your favor and watch a 5 star grow, that hunt will be intense. I just passed on a 4 star mule deer near the lodge and took out two low genetic mature males. Hunters do this is real life too, pass on a nice buck waiting for it to grow next year.
@@Titter2 Again this is real life and that's a GAME. If I can only play 30-60 minutes a month I'm not playing the long game. I just want to go out, find something, and take it down.
@@matthewwagner4042 and what exactly keeps you? Just start the game find a herd and shoot away. You wont find any five stars but what you expect if you can play a game half an hour a month. Go play rocket league or owerwatch where matches last max 10 minutes. You get more done there instead of a hunting game where everything is slow. Or go play Call of the Wild which doesnt have anything that resembles herd management and its worse for it. Its more like Call of Duty.

How the hell are you standing 200 yd away up wind of them and standing fully upright without them running. I could be crouched moving at half speed of crouched behind a hill at 250 yd and they still get spooked.
I'm playing on Adventurer I think. The one you start on. Not sure if you're on a harder difficulty?
Tkanks for this vedio
Hello mate i am arbian guy from UAE I AM INTERESTED in this game but i have question , if i shot the deer mature with 1 star is that make the deer with 3 star growing after ..... 1 sleep=23 hours but play in the world 1 hour
I dont know if you understand me but
I do my best to make good question 😅
Ah I forget something, the cattle of the deer , how many male in the cattle
If you shoot a 1 star mature, you are taking a good cull buck but it doesn't mean it will respawn as a 3 star buck. Genetics can take a few generations to build up through smart management :)
Your video's on the game are definitely informative! Enjoying the content. Keep up the good work!! Also, would definitely love to hunt some white tail on PC if I win the giveaway, but I'm not sure if I'm too late lol
Little late unfortunately
@@Gruntly All good mate! Keep up the good work!
Good vid
You gotta talk slower tho
I just accidentally killed a 4 star and 3 star, they were the biggest in the herd and the herd was balanced, will it effect the herd that much?
If the herd really was balanced, probably not that much
How fast do animals age?
It varies quite a bit depending on the animal and what stage their in. Some animals take 3 days, others up to 12
I have never found an animal with more than 1 star. Is my game broken or something?
i love very much
I know genetics and herd management matter in real life. I've never played this game so I'm not sure if any of that relates here.....
5 star red fox almost possible to find..nez perce
5 star animals are pretty difficult to find, I never seem to have much luck finding them on any reserve
@@Gruntly i already got 5 star fox yeahhh..but final bosses is goose actually 1 month still got 3 star only
Does this apply to multiplayer as well?
Because you have less control over multiplayer sessions, I wouldn't use this
I watch enjoy for animal
Irl I like the weird genetic racks 😂🤣
I have 73 hrs into the game. Haven't played in almost a week so that tells you how hard I went the first week. Everything presented has been true in my experience. Can't wait until everyone fills their lodge with trophies and we can start some sort of world record system for total trophy points. Anyway, great work on your content and I'm glad you were able to compile these findings.
Heres my biggest trophy yet and it happened to be my first 5 star. Got alot of 5 stars on the map rn just waiting to see those signs of very old age. ruclips.net/video/RT6ajsueAoU/видео.html
Good this game
Tree stands would have been great for killing badgers just saying, but for a year old I guess it is what it is glad I didn't full price for this game haha
Good call! Hopefully we still get something like that. I mean they only added in Bows just recently
Wow no bow hunting? Im glad I came along when I did no bows would of made me throw the game away@@Gruntly
I'm starting to feel like this game really needs baby animals
most at the movement
Nice video, but you are talking a little bit too fast😊
422 views and 50 likes bro come on
You can know if a young male is Poor genetics if you use a call for poor genetic males and the young male comes in on it
True
So yea I kinda fucked up my Mule Deer herd lol
I'm mostly shooting the mature females or some adults that don't look too special and have only seen a few 4 stars and one five star. After some good 25+ hours into the game.
@@connorkenway09 I got a little over 30 hrs in an I know today is Doe Management for me in a few spots
Very easy to be trigger happy in this game ahahah
The animals will come back, just reset for a couple of days
@@Gruntly it’s more of I thought Adults was highest not Mature but now I know I feel like this Video helped me make better Decisions now lol
Lol I have a herd of 7…all female. I think I messed up somewhere
I like your argument. It seems that on the surface this is a realistic mechanic but dive a little deeper and not so much. hmm
Mule deer females live nurseing areas down low taking care of their fawns. Bucks don't hang with them untill later In the season....
@@Gruntly This game Is still a good one just needs to be polished more thats all...
as if i would fi´nd THAT Herd everagain ahahaahahaha

O)
In the game in the encyclopedia it says shooting female animals can reduce the animal population. I would highly suggest not shooting females unless there is a story mission that requires it. I would think a RUclipsr would’ve at least gone through the encyclopedia before giving information out. At the same time It seems that most players are not reading anything in the encyclopedia.
omg can u talk slower? is it farmacist comercial?
Sorry to say that this game is most definitely not for you then.
@@matthewwagner4042its a hunting sim and your mad its too realistic lmao go play cabelas
I thought the aging process went young, mature, adult. Are mature and adult flipped. Someone please tell me!
Hey! The order is as follows; Young, Adult, Mature :)
@@Gruntly Thank you!
Game is not registering my shots a lot of times or there is no blood :( . At least 6-7 times i shoot a animal from 70-100m by calling it and when i shoot it doesn’t get hit and just runs away…
Oh really? Check your sighting, I've had some issues when I haven't sighted in properly
@@Gruntly The thing is if i shoot between trees and there are branches, the bullet hits the branch and doesnt seem to penetrate it to hit the animal. Hit animal not leaving blood pools happening too :(
This game "Way of the Hunter"....yet the advertised game under your Heading description is for the game "theHunter: Call of the Wild"....both good games but might confuse new viewers.
This video was put together really well, Thanks for that.
Really helpful! Been looking for a video explaining this since release day 1. Thanks a lot ive subbed!
Cool vid, I have been enjoying chasing fallow and reds
Thanks for the info.I love this game!!
