we love a doctor who knows their vibe and has only one outfit style, but we also love a doctor who harnesses the full potential of an infinite wardrobe.
that's why this season did absolutely horrible, ratings wise, right? maybe they should've focused less on the "infinite wardrobe" and put more effort into creating a character people would actually like. Just a thought.
@@jacobclayton0 come on now. it’s not like putting attention into the look of the show takes away from everything else. i think this newest season is up there with the best, ratings have never equaled quality for doctor who.
@@jacobclayton0 I agree. This aspect was part of the problem with the charcaterisation (there were others). The viewer needs familarity to relate to and form a relationship with a lead character. Imagine Superman in a green jumper and jeans - iconography through visuals matter a lot.
@@triplejazzmusicisall1883 i don’t wanna labour on this point cause it’s really a small thing, but 1) he does have an iconic outfit, the brown coat and crop top has appeared in 3/9 episodes so far with a fourth on the way. 2), does the variety in his outfits not characterise him further? the same way it characterised capaldis doctor across his seasons? this is a doctor of colour, variety, and adaptability, and you see that in the outfits as well as the gadgets and solutions he comes up with.
@@triplejazzmusicisall1883 exactly, its why live action shows movies have done this, keeping character outfits with the same overall look. This guy is all over the place and hard to connect with.
@Clam6254 if you dont want to use dropping viewership as an indicator that a show is unliked, what metric would you like to look at? everything is down except the amount of outfits we've seen on the doctor. And no, i dont add clothing to a characteristic of someone. Not an aspect i care about, and seems im not alone in that opinion. I just wish they spent less time on trying to highlight his "colour, variety, and adaptability" and spent more time solidifying him in consistency and reliability. Every doctor has been rather unpredictable and thinking out of the box for solutions, so I dont really accept that as a trait unique to this doctor alone, and they did it in their consistent outfits. If an actor comes on screen looking different most of the time, its not a stretch to expect him to act different that episode as well, so its not as much of a shock when he does. By all means like the show, that's just my 2 cents.
For me his best three looks are:
1. His Main Outfit (Ruby Road, Space Babies and Joy to the World)
2. The Tweed Outfit (Dot and Bubble)
3. Black Leather jacket and Kilt (Ruby Road)
As much as I like that the Doctor finally realised they got a massive wardrobe room, I do wish there was at least a "core" style as it were. So far he's worn his outfit from the promo posters like once or twice
I and everyone I know who watches DW has the same opinion. It's a big mistake as it prevents the iconography of this Doctor's incarnation. What were they thinking?

The 1960s look is the one I dig for this particular doctor. It doesnt seem obvious when its meant to be replicating which makes it somewhat timeless, but theres a hint that its an old style, which the doctor has always done
I like the fact that the Doctor wears different outfits.
I feel like they're going for a first season of the First Doctor thing where the Doctor dresses for whatever time period he goes to.
I don’t like the fact that 15 has a new outfit for every episode. I get it if it gets tweaked or changed for a historical episode (though The Doctor rarely changes their outfits for history episodes) and We don’t even see how 15 chose his outfit either.

So many people dress up as 'the doctor' you can't dress up as this doctor, as he looks different every time.
@@donder91That being said, his look from Church on Ruby Road is pretty much what most people associate him with.
Personally it's not a huge issue, he does have a "main" look the Long Brown Leather coat paired with a retro themed shirt which appears across the season and is used in the marketing. With the rest there is at least recurring themes and colours.

I absolutely love the fact that Fifteen is fashionista and has varied wardrobe. I understand why some people might prefer when Doctor just keeps one look for the entire run - but in my opinion variety allows his clothes to look more like normal clothes and less like a costume. Also, ask yourself, if you had access to potentially infinite wardrobe on the Tardis, would you wear always the same clothes? I know I probably wouldn't. Some would say that his clothes are usually more casual than the rest of the Doctor's but in my opinion, they are quite consistent in terms of style - this Doctor likes mainly warm colors (how is Ncuti able to look good in ORANGE jumper?!) and they are eccentric enough to still feel very Doctor-y. And they are soo good!!! my absolutely favourite one is of course the one in Rogue (he looks just like Prince Charming there, and excellent choice of colors, especially with Rogue's blue outfit, they compliment each other visually. That episode is just beautiful and visually gorgeous!) and the kilt/leather jacket combo from Xmas special. Also, I think that his orange/brown long coat is his most iconic look (used in the promos etc) so it's not like Fifteen doesn;t have the certain outfit that could easily connected to him as cosplay etc. But it gives cosplayers more freedom in choice their favourite one.
When you say 'ask yourself...'(with respect) I couldn't help but think that was a pointless arguement because the Doctor is a Timelord not a human. So as a human what I would do is irrelevant.

He's just another humanoid species, he can has dislikes, likes, interests (maybe this Doctor is more interested in fashion than other ones). Think about riddiculous traditional Timelords robes, are you trying to tell me they are not the nation of fashionistas? Mind you, I only really watched new who, with of course occassional glimpses from the classics Doctors in the form of clips etc, but Doctor always had some sort of (better or worse) fashion sense. And I like that Fifteen experiments with his garments. I like that he dresses for the time period, that's part of the fun going to different time period😊

As basic as it was, I loved his black leather jacket outfit he wore in the penultimate episode. Ncuti suits it so much.
Do y’all take requests? If so there’s this one moment I would love to see again but haven’t been able to find it anywhere. It’s from “The Girl Who Died.” The 12th Doctor wants to leave when the village of vikings is about to be attacked by “Odin.” I love the part where the baby’s crying and Clara asks the Doctor to translate what the baby’s saying, then the baby stops crying because the Doctor decided to stay. Legitimately one of my favorite moments from the whole show!

For the actual official RUclips DW site it is intersting that at least 50 to 60% of comments have said they do not like the multi costumes and for pretty much the same ovbious reasons.
For those who like this approach that's their prerogative but just imagine if eack of the14 prior incarnations had also worn an assortment of outfits that rarely even had the similar characteristics and elements of design. Tom Baker's season 18 did maintain the long scarf and hat, Smith kept the coat and bow tie, Tennant had the brown and blue variations. Capaldi kept the black and silver prominent, Whitaker always had the same as did Davison.
That is how we visually connect with each incarnation. I think to have multiple changes all quite distinct from one another in one incarnation is a terrible idea and concept. It was one of the biggest flaws RTD made this season. The fact he is a Timelord makes me doubt he would spend hours going through endless racks of clothes. He has more important things on his mind.
Gonna be honest I really don't like the fact he has a vast array of outfits, I much preferred when the Doctor had a certain set. But if they wanetd him to have a big selection I wish he had getups similar to 12 where they were more Doctor-like, I'd much prefer him in a suit than the outfit he wore at the start of The Devil's Chord, that one was terrible.

i don't understand why this is such a big deal for everyone, the Doctor having different personalities between incarnations has literally been a thing since the first regeneration. this incarnation is an easy crier. that's all it is. and those that argue that the Doctor is supposed to be a strong character and this somehow undermines that... ask yourself why you think feelings make someone weaker in your eyes

The Dot and Bubble costume is probably my favourite 15th Doctor outfit. It looks original compared to his other ones and it looks very Doctor-ish. 👍

I love that he has lots of different outfits but I wish he had a core outfit that he would revert to. Like 9 has his leather jacket, 10 his tench coat, 11 his bowtie and so on. 15 is missing his iconic element

Usually each Doctor is defined by their costumes. E.g. Fourth Doctor = big scarf, Fifth Doctor = cricket attire. Tenth Doctor = pinstripe suit, necktie and converse, Eleventh Doctor = tweed jacket/purple coat and bow tie.
For the Fifteenth Doctor, I don't see a particular theme with his costumes. It's just whatever fits with the episode. Don't get me wrong, all of Ncuti Gatwa's costumes have been great so far and I am looking forward to seeing what he wears in future stories, but I am struggling to define his style if I were to describe him to people who aren't familiar with the show.

Some iconic outfits here that match him well. And there are some outfits that, in my opinion… are some of the worst things any doctor has ever worn.

I feel like this doctor lacks identity sometimes, and his multiple outfits don’t really help that. His main two (coat and leather jacket) are just 10 and 9 knockoffs

This was one of the "many" reasons i did not think the 15th doctor was Good. The doctor has traditionally stuck to a single outfit, and it was jarring to have him change it EVERY SINGLE TIME. It branding 101, how are you going to make marketing and toys if you CHANGE the look every time.
The Third Doctor change his outfit every time.
Marketing has his Xmas look as his ‘main outfit’. He’s wearing it again at the end of Empire of death and a variant this Xmas. (He also wears in in Space Babies)
As for toys- they’re probably happy they have so many options to work with

Eh... I kinda think each Doctor should have two outfits. One for normal episodes and one for specials. I like most of 15's style but he hasn't yet worn anything "iconic" yet. An outfit that screams "I'm THE Doctor."

I love Ncuti but his Doctor feel too much like a human time traveller. I'm all for change but the constant outfit changes and crying every other second is a bit too much of a departure from The Doctor for me. Some people love it and at the end of the day at least we get to see another brilliant take on The Doctor and Ncuti is nailing it!
saw the season was not very impressed with the stories. the writing was very better with the the 12 and 13 Doctor. his acting was good but the stories I could say 4 of them I liked
As great as most of those alternate costumes are, I wish there was a consistent one we more often... Then again, this is making up for 13's lack of variety throughout her run.

Sorry but most (not all) DW fans do not like the Doctor to have so many costumes and so distinct from one another. The Doctor needs to have a costume with maybe a variant or two just like Smith and Tennant did. It makes it harder to identify and see Ncuti as the Doctor when he has such a changing wardrobe. Consistency and familiarity matter.
They could've gone with the option of giving him a unique and recognizable coat or something, then just switch up the rest of his clothes if they really wanted to give this Doctor diff outfits.

I would like to say, the new doctor is not like the doctor at all, it fundamentally differs from what the doctor was/is. And the stories for the episodes are very very poor and disappointing. I'm sorry. It's not even the fault of any of the actors, I think its fully the fault of the writer and/or Disney.

This doctor is to just satisfy being woke and including yet 90% of the people it themes towards tend to not even watch doctor who or have a problem with it how it was before Jodie's tenure. BBC are doing the one thing TV series should never do and theme the show around the actor instead of the actor around the show hoping it will bring in that actor/actress' viewers like more women for Jodie's or LGBTQ / glee community for gatwa.

Think about Series 1 with Christopher Eccleston - which monsters did HE defeat? From my memory, he basically only motivated others, whether they be companions, supporting characters, or the monster itself, to defeat the monster.
It's fine if you don't like that - it was a pretty common criticism in 2005 - but it's not new.
