Probably the most beautiful song from any version of a Christmas Carol (the 1984 is my favorite!). This song tells you the whole point of the story. This song is Christmas...and I cry every time.
Beautiful song and my favorite version of A Christmas Carol. I was 9 years old and remember when this was first on tv. I now watch this every year on Christmas Eve.
So idk if anyone's ever gonna read that but I found the lyrics The past of man was cold as ice He would not mend his ways. He strove for silver in his heart And gold in all his days. His reason weak, his anger sharp, And sorrow all his pay, He went to church but once a year, And that was Christmas Day. The present man is full of flame: He rushes here and there. He turns away the orphan child, The widow in her chair. He takes more than he really needs, Forgets how brief his stay, And stands a-jingling of his coins In church on Christmas Day. So grant us all a change of heart, Rejoice for Mary's son; Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone! The man to come we do not know: May he make peace on earth, And live the glory of the Word, The message of the birth, And gather all the children in To banish their dismay, Lift up his heart among the bells In church on Christmas Day. So grant us all a change of heart, Rejoice for Mary's son; Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone! Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone!

THANK YOU SO MUCH...have wanted to know the words to this carol since first hearing it. Bless you and Happy Christmas 🎄. Cheers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦..
“and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!”
Very pleased so many posts praise this version of Dicken's novel. Personally, Alistair Sim's portrayal of Scrooge in the 1951 film is the best adaptation of the Christmas classic. Different strokes...
Agreed; the Alastair Sim version is my favorite, but this George C. Scott version is a very close second for me. Many versions have been made over the years, and everyone has their own favorites, but Albert Finney (1970) and Patrick Stewart (1999) are numbers 3 and 4 on my list. Some people have really praised the 1935 Seymour Hicks version. I didn't enjoy that one as much due to the omission of several key scenes, but it is interesting from a historical perspective because it is the oldest surviving version (and I think the first feature-length version) with sound.
If I was going to try to compile a Top 10 list of my all-time favorite movie theme songs, I can almost guarantee that this gem would be on it--and I mean not just Christmas/holiday movies, but all genres of movies. I should look up the composer, Nick Bicat, to see what else he has written that I might like.
An interesting thing I noticed: During the skating scene, a little more than 13 minutes into the movie, the street ensemble performs the theme song, starting halfway into the first verse (His reason weak, his anger sharp...), and we hear the refrain, followed by the entire second verse, cutting off when the second refrain would start. When the song plays during the closing credits, however, for some reason they omitted the refrain after the first verse. Also, the street ensemble clearly sings "And stands a-jingling of his *change* in church on Christmas Day" in the second verse, but in the closing sequence it is changed to "And stands a jingling of his *coins.* Just an interesting bit of trivia.
GREAT version also like the Alastair Sim film EXCEPT for the Tiny Tim character, he's bigger then his father, The past of man was cold as ice He would not mend his ways, He strove for silver in his heart and gold in all his days, His reason weak his anger sharp and sorrow all his pay, He went to church but once a year and that was Christmas Day. The present man is full of flame he rushes here and there, He turns away the orphan child the widow in her chair, He takes more than he really needs forgets how brief his stay, And stands a-jingling of his coins in church on Christmas Day. Definitely, I can listen to it all day😊
The most divine version of A Christmas Carol and and the crowning ģlory of George C. Scott's work as an actor.
There's never been another movie version of this story that even comes close. I love it and never , ever get tired of it. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Angela Abbott!
The Disney was pretty close as well
I agree wholeheartedly. I adore this version and there will never be another for me.
This one and Alistair Sim (1951) are my personal favorites. I thought Albert Finney (1970) was pretty good too.
You are 100% correct. God bless us, everyone!
Beautiful song and my favorite version of A Christmas Carol. I was 9 years old and remember when this was first on tv. I now watch this every year on Christmas Eve.
I heartily agree and it’s my Christmas Eve tradition as well.
The ONLY A Christmas Carol we don't talk about the others
You're brilliant!
Kermit made a pretty good Bob Cratchit in the one.
I watch this every Christmas and it brings me tears of joy and sorrow. It reminds me of a world that is and a world that could be.
So idk if anyone's ever gonna read that but I found the lyrics
The past of man was cold as ice
He would not mend his ways.
He strove for silver in his heart
And gold in all his days.
His reason weak, his anger sharp,
And sorrow all his pay,
He went to church but once a year,

So grant us all a change of heart,
Rejoice for Mary's son;
Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind,
God bless us everyone!

If it provides any comfort, that's my second favorite after George C. Scott.

A christmas Carol, Charles Dickens!
Filmed in the beautiful town of my birth. The town of flowers
Just finished watching this. I love this version...it scared the absolute wiggins out of me when I was 7...and only the Muppet one is better, imho.
Anyone know where to find the sheet music for this? My mom loves to play and would love sheet music for this as a Christmas gift.
Many thanks!
It's not Christmas yet but it is 2020 so.... you get the picture

There is no official lyrics to this song as it was never officially released. However, there is a video here on youtube with the heard subtitles :)
