I think your tomatoes may do better being in full sun out of the poly tunnel-there may be too much moisture/humidity in there for them. You planted so much, next year spread them out and plant less-your tomatoes will be bigger and less trouble once you prune them. I love your toilet and basin-they'll look great in your new place. Have a great week!
Well your enthusiasm & excitement is wonderful. The house is so pretty & the bathroom suite is gorgeous. Well done Wilfred, a boy after my own heart. Keep going, shake off the bad days. Love to you all.. ❤
You are right about the tomatoes suffering from an excess of humidity, lack of sun. Avoid watering the tomato leaves- water the base of the plants,- on sunny days. If possible, an oscillating fan , even if at night for short stretches might do the trick. The house is going to be magnificent.
It looks like blight, very difficult to get rid of do not put the leaves or affected plants in your compost. You can spread it just by touching and attacks peppers potato and anything in the same family. When watering do not wet the leaves, you need to give the plants a lot of space. Next year try to buy seeds that are blight resistant and do not plant in the same place.☹️
Look at all the work you did girl, without a trimmer while he was gone to get more sting. You are such a happy go getter. Can’t wait to see what you do to house.
Great catch this week, you need to take more credit that you are progressing you’re both amazing creating your homestead. Wilfred well done so pleased to see how you spotted potential in the burgundy bathroom suite … growing up in the eighties my parents refurbished our bathroom with exactly the same colour 😆 Also moving schools will be fine, it’s often the thought of it that is challenging when you get there all will be well, with the support of friends and lovely parents you will flourish xx ps test and learn is a much better saying re the veggie patch ….you are not failing by a long way Kayla xx
Wow guys! In awe of how you just get in there and get things done, the cleared house looks wonderful, as though it's breathing again. Well done Wilfred in finding that loo set! Hope the digger comes soon, have a great week Scotters! xx
Looking forward to seeing your findings in the house. I'm a huge fan of nicknacks that reports us history. 💪Weldone on the land clearing. It now looks so much better.
I HAVE NOT SEEN STONES THAT LARGE IN HOUSES IN PORTUGAL... MUST BE QUITE SPECIAL. I DIG HOW LARGE AND FITTED THEY ARE. SO KOOL YUR FINALLY HAVING A CHANCE TO START THE HOUSE.. WOOHOOO! BE BLESSED YE ALL.
FYI - the red squirrel, which had disappeared from mainland Portugal for centuries, has slowly made it's way back. It once occupied the whole of Portugal, but died out in the 16th century due to, they think, over hunting and deforestation. It returned via Spain in the 1980's and by 2014 was frequently spotted in central and northern Portugal. Regarding your tomatoes - it looks like it could be Early Blight. Ways to try and eradicate it this growing year are - 1) Mix fat-free milk with water in a 1:1 ratio and apply it using a spray bottle. Spray the solution directly onto the clean leaves of your tomatoes. Milk-and-water solution coats the leaves and leads to the growth of an invisible fungus that frightens off black spot! 2) To four litres of water, add 3 level teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda and a couple of good splashes of fish emulsion. Give it a good mix and spray it on weekly. Don’t apply when it’s hot. The Fish emulsion is very useful because it helps to make it stick. It also contains beneficial bacteria that have antifungal properties. And that’s not all - the oils in fish emulsion will help to suffocate pests like mites/aphids/scale. You must use it weekly for it to be most effective. 3) Seaweed sprayed onto the leaves changes the pH of the leaf surface making it less attractive to the fungal spores. It also strengthens the cell walls making it more difficult for the invading fungi. 4) Low Environmental Impact fungicides are available, but success is limited and control can be difficult. 5) Destroy all infected plants and dropped leaves by bagging and disposing in rubbish, or burning. Do not compost. Rotate your crops!!! Don’t plant the same crops, or susceptible crops in the same area each season. Good Luck 😊😊
Bless you. You are feeding your children and yourselves All are well and safe. Ride the problems out. Don’t think about giving up. It’s the tough times that toughen and make you. Learn from the problems and failures. Not preaching, just been there. Heads up and much love.
Hi, the tomatoes look like they have blight. You said it was hot rainy hot rainy this could have caused high humidity in the tunnel and caused the blight to begin. You may need to improve air flow in the tunnel and also do not water the plants water the plants at the roots. Water early in the morning only and do not over water. You are doing the right thing by cutting away the diseased leaves do not panic the plant can lose 30% of it's leaves and survive. Sterilise your tools and wash hands prior to touching treated plants. Dispose of diseased leaves in bin off property do not put in compost. You must rotate the area next season so no tomatoes in the greenhouse. There are lots of treatments I suggest follow the local knowledge. Good luck following you all from Australia.
Not sure if someone has said but it most likely is botrytis mould. Usually caused by poor circulation and the plants staying wet for too long. So lack of morning sun which would dry the dew from the plants and too much humidity being in the greenhouse. Greenhouses where there is little airflow/breeze and too much moisture leads to this as well. So having the greenhouse in full sun with the sides rolled up or a fan going would definitely help. With all the trees around the greenhouse this would also create less airflow. Tomatoes need full sun, lots of airflow, watering from the ground (not on the plants themselves) a good soaking via a soaker hose over night once a week is better then little regular waterings. Some people find adding a bit of epsom salt to your water when you water them helps with the magnesium/calcium balance for the plants. Hope this is helpful
What a difference around the house. So excited for starting remodel in the house. You can powder egg shells and spread it in the ground around your tomato plants. It will help. Love and be safe!🤗😘🌼🇻🇪
Lovely to see your mood lift as the video went on. Work through those tough times and I’m sure you will be rewarded! I fully adopt the reduce reuse recycle Mantra. Im always picking stuff up from waste to reuse. Great video this week. Keep smashing it 💪🏼👌🏼
There are some vegetables that do ok in part shade like peas, radish and lettuce. Google for more. You could have the children help in the garden for an hour or so then spend time with them on holidays maybe. They are such gorgeous children. Good find with the bathroom ware Wilfred. If you buy a wood fired oven look for one that heats water as well, plus a warming for PJ's in the winter season. The ash will be great for the garden. You might be able to harvest the wild oregano seeds and throw them in other areas to cut and come again.
Badger!! … I think you can get a metal cutting blade for your strimmer. This is great for brambles etc as well. Makes life easier from what I have seen on other channels! Love your vlog and love following your progress living the dream! Well done to all of you. Chris in Birmingham Uk
Well done with all you accomplished this week! It's hard when you have to wait for other people before things can progress but your positive attitude makes such a difference! When you're in your beautiful house the wait will have been so worth it! Sorry about the tomatoes! I definitely think it's a combination of heat and humidity and not enough sun, but it's all about trying and learning what works best! I love the new location of the bus and table with a view!❤
Yes! Thank you! Such true words thank you for the support! We are so excited to get the house done but definitely learning it’s not going to be a fast process 😅
Poly tunnel might be too warm for the tomatoes, they need good air circulation and sunlight I believe . Good luck with them , you hopefully have a good harvest there none the less. Well done on your move with 3 kids. They are very lucky to experience this adventure . Keep it up
My first thought was too hot in the poly tunnel, they look fried, not any fungus I've seen. They need fresh air. Fingers crossed. Great work clearing around the house- it's so pretty! Love LOVE your plum porcelain finds!!
If it’s calcium they are lacking, you can use egg shells and put them in a food processor with a bit of water and whisk them into a smush, dilute with water. Also to help ripen the tomatoes you can leave banana skins on the ground around the plants.
Save your egg shells untiĺ they dry out & then crush and add around base of tomatoes Helps with black spots on tomatoes. We always put on when 1st planted
Next year you might want to buy a field variety of tomato good for canning. More resistant to blight. One year our tomato patch was flooded. They came on fine and produced our best yield of tomatoes. Roma tomatoes.
Can’t wait to see the house coming together Great find of bathroom treasures Wilfred was so pleased with the find 😊 Your cherubs are lovely humans I love seeing their smiling faces Have a great week ❤
Will you have a verandah? A good place to appreciate the views you have and also a perfect gathering place for the children and their friends. An outdoor living room!
Back in 1972 when my father built a house I actually chose a plum bathroom suite and a lime green shag pile carpet !!!! 🤣great job as usual guys ….. love you 🥰
The bathroom ensemble is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the color! The garden will do it's thing, or not. You have done your best with it, and that's all that matters. Your new set up is awesome. And, the house is happening! You guys are livin the dream!
Hey it's all a learning curve. You should be soooo proud of all you've achieved so far it's amazing. The tomatoes had a great start not enough calcium does lead to the bottom of the tomatoes going black but i don't see that. It does look like mould/mildew a treatment of,'Bouillie Bordelaise' i use here in France (french- google translate perhaps) uses for fruit trees vines & nuts also. This is a great homemade concoction for calcium not only for tomatoes but for most veg it's essential - save all your egg shells wash & dry them, pop them in a blender until a fine powder, pop into a good sized bowl add a couple of tablespoons of cheap white/clear vinegar. It will froth & react with the egg shell to release the calcium. Give it 20 mins & then add a couple of scoops to a full watering can & apply to soil (the vinegar does no harm & will be well diluted) Voila . I hope this helps. Revel in your successes ❤ Thanks for sharing....beautiful familly.
I think tomatoes would love direct sunlight, the green cover over it only works if it’s winter, in summer they like full fresh air If you notice in portugal everyone grows their veggies in full sun with no covers and lots of water and no weeds. Anyway good luck 😊
Good find Wilford that will look fabulous with the colorful Portuguese tiles ! My brother and I when we were small loved dumpster diving and trash picking . We hauled a lot of stuff in his wagon. I’m exited for you. Hang in there . Your hard work is really showing. You are pioneering and there is no path you are building it .
You sure got a lot done this week too! The house is so beautiful with those large granite stones. It will be wonderful living there once you renovate it. The view is gorgeous!
Ola nice video i love your stone house the place where she his so good the views will be breath taking. Job done looks amazing around the house. See you Sunday 😮
Your last video the comments were turned off, so I can only imagine that someone had to ruin everyone’s day with rudeness or being snarky, and I’m so very sorry for that. People on the internet can be really rude sometimes. Love you guys, and I absolutely LOVE the sunset views you get off the lawn and over the edge out there! ❤
GARDENING!! Am currently bingeing on what is now my favourite RUclips channel - just loving following you guys and am sooooo envious of your fabulous property - it's sheer heaven!! I'm commenting here because of your late tomato blight - a disease that can strike at any time and is caused by soil living pathogens which have been transported by insects and birds. This is one of the reasons I keep advising people, regardless of the vegetable in question, is to mulch, mulch, mulch! There's no cure for late blight but you can spray with hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) - it's just water with an additional oxygen element, so it's safe and organic. It can be kept in the house for first aid purposes as it's not only antifungal, it's antibacterial too. To prevent the spread of diseases, always keep you garden shears and knives etc clean - again HO2 will do the trick. Apart from mulching to prevent the spread of pathogens there's a few more things you can do for late blight - don't water your leaves, get really good air flow in your poly tunnel - lift the plastic skirt up if you can, or create flaps all along the base that you can roll up, because preventing moisture build up is important, and this goes for most plants. And don't water veggies from above - always at ground level. Now, back to mulching - it not prevents those pathogens from being splashed up, it suppresses weeds, conserves precious water, regulates soil temperature, prevents soil being blown or washed away, and feeds soil life. As you'll have seen on your beautiful walks, Nature never leaves her soil uncovered - she's constantly adding to the compost that forms in her forests and meadows - she feed the soil , not the plants - it's the soil life of microbes, bacteria, fungi and worms etc that feed our plants. I'm a 76 year old organic gardener originally from England but now in Australia, and have grown in various climates - this advice applies no matter where you live or what you grow. The best mulch is a 2" layer of compost as slugs are not attracted and if course, there's nothing better to feed the soil, but leaves or straw are good too - I use chopped sugar cane. Avoid hay as it's usually full of seeds and weeds. The only addition I make to my soil apart from adding compost on top each year is a sprinkling of chicken manure pellets - I don't ever need to fertilise - I just improve the soil. Never use fresh chook poo as it'll burn your plants - add it to your compost heap! That goes for any other waste - so please don't listen to people about egg shells, coffee grounds, fish heads and banana skins - get the most out of them by composting because it's absolutely teaming with life! If you ever get the time (I can hear you laughing) - check out Charles Dowding's channel. Oh, and don't break your back digging - you're not only destroying the soil life web beneath your feet, but it creates a haven for weeds. Nature doesn't disturb her soil - she just drops stuff on top and let's the life beneath do all the work - easy as! Phew! Sorry that was so long, but I hope you will consider taking some of it on board when you come to starting your new veggie patch. Lay down cardboard ahead of time to kill the weeds then start adding organic matter on top to build your beds, finishing off with that 2" of yummy compost! A couple of tips: plant beans, peas and carrots directly in the soil. Lettuces and most brassicas don't like too much sun - dappled or afternoon shade is good, or plant between rows of corn. Plant corn in blocks and fairly close as pollination relies on the breeze. When sowing carrots water very gently afterwards then cover with a plank until they germinate and have grown a bit - 1 to 2 weeks. They'll look a bit weedy but will soon bounce back. Absolutely love how you grew the cress - I used to collect it from the edge of a stream when I was a child. All the best - even I'm excited for you all on this fabulous journey in this wonderful region - keep those videos coming. Love seeing the kids having a childhood like mine, and esp to see things like your youngest whittling with a knife - we seem to have forgotten how to trust our children - even if they do pull off your magnolia branches!! Their life is idyllic - well done to Mum 'n' Dad! Hugs from Oz.
Wow thank you so much for lovely and informative message, so many amazing tip that I will definitely take on board ☺️ So pleased your enjoying the videos and hopefully the ones to come! Thanks again ☺️
Well ye are a joy to watch .ye get on so well the children are a credit to you both. And please God the jcb man will be back next week. Have a great week end
And what a nice surrounding it is...imagine when your goal in mind is accomplished....it will be very nice 😊 and how cute are the kids with good Portuguese pronunciation 😎🤗 soon flowing 💫💯
Some solo systems store whats not used for days the sun doesn't appear 😊. Most vegetables and fruit need 5 to 6 hours of sun a day especially tomato and peppers. Lettuce and some other veg don't need as much as sun
We have big battery’s but using so much power at the moment wasn’t quite enough but seems to be sorted now ☺️ Thank you for the advice about the veg ☺️
Well done with what you have done, you were a little down at the beginning of the week but now the house looks as if will be started in another couple of weeks you certainly bucked up.❤️❤️❤️
You’re doing great family, keep your dreams well insight and keep talking about them, never give up ❤! It looks amazing around your beautiful dream home, I can see your vision, soon it will be reality manifested! I love your new bathroom fixtures, the color is awesome and will be beautiful in your home, what a find! If you’re able to obtain a good tarp, use it to lay on the ground to help you move items of vegetation around your place, it saves your energy and steps and clears it out fast. Cut your small sticks for kindling, bundle and tie them for easier transport when having to move them, you know they will have to be moved again 😂! Love your family, be safe and well, much love to all ❤
And that is the trouble with solar power. It's dependent on the sun shining all the time, and that just isn't how life is. It's a similar issue with your tomatoes. They have to have much more light or they will not thrive. This leaves them susceptible to disease. You live and learn and guys, you are so very young still. You have a lot of living and learning to do and you will 'get there' because you are determined and have a great work ethic.
My husband adds epsom salt to the base of our tomato plants. It seems to keep them healthy next year plant your tomatoes outside in a place that has part shade for some of the day tomatoes lovenheat but not a burning sun
You guys make me laugh so much. Something goes wrong and you say ok now which way do we go. Your faith and determination you do with grace and ease. What a teaching moment for your children that best made plans may not always happen. You just have to be flexible and carry on❤️ the bounty from the garden may not be all you wanted but you know you can do it. Next year you will be more prepared you learned a lot thus year. Love y’all can’t wait to watch every thing the is happening in your journey. Your children are precious and loving where they are👏🏻👏🏻 Blessings 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
@@THESCOTTERS your so welcome , Like the bottom of the plant ,not the base of pot , I made the mistake of hose spraying ,all there leaves got wet and most shrivelled up , Hope it helps
I loved this vid so much, thanks Scotters! I could enjoy watching without the guilt of sitting comfortably in my armchair with AC turned on , while you work hard in the heat, sweating! 🤣🤣🤣In a serious note, you really did a great job! Btw, that bathroom stuffs are absolutely amazing, kudos to Wilfred that he spotted it, you have classy taste! Girls, your Portuguese is great, thx for teaching me few new words! 💗Enjoy you school holiday, as much as possible!
Oh that’s so great to hear so pleased you enjoyed it! Can’t say I’m not jealous of your AC 😂 Is it’s super cool I love it too!🚽 Yes they are learning so fast very proud 🥹
Great job done clearing round the house! Patience is certainly something you need in Portugal!! Love your lixo bathroom…we’ve found so many interesting things beside the bins over the years!
And you got it for a “great”price…..free!!! Yes, so awesome!

Try spray with garlic water get rid of brown leaves, then give them a good fertilizer for foliage..should save them
Burn the leaves
I have Googled and definitely looks like blight ☹️ thank you so much for the tips and I’ll definitely look for better deeds next year! ☺️

Wow love the plum bathroom fittings, well done Wilfred and team!
Thank you! He is the best ☺️
Great recycling and great progress - cheers guys and thanks for sharing
We love an up cycle 🔁☺️🙏
Tomatoes need calcium. You can use gypsum. For vegetables you can make a spray of Peroxide and water for the fungus.
This is great to know thank you! ☺️
I wish I had half your energy. ❤
I’ll send some over! 😂🙏
Put baking powder in water and spray the tomatoe plants. At the roots water with fish water

So true!! Time really does fly!! ☺️
Next year you might want to buy a field variety of tomato good for canning. More resistant to blight. One year our tomato patch was flooded. They came on fine and produced our best yield of tomatoes. Roma tomatoes.
We will for sure look out for those varieties! They sound perfect! Thank you 🙏
Can’t wait to see the house coming together

Thanks so much☺️
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you all guys.
Thank you again for watching mean the world! ☺️
Wow such amazing advise! Thank you! 🙏☺️
I think tomatoes would love direct sunlight, the green cover over it only works if it’s winter, in summer they like full fresh air
If you notice in portugal everyone grows their veggies in full sun with no covers and lots of water and no weeds. Anyway good luck 😊
Yes I think we need to just copy as best we can!! Thank you for watching ☺️
Good luck with your new van build.
🙏
Good find Wilford that will look fabulous with the colorful Portuguese tiles ! My brother and I when we were small loved dumpster diving and trash picking . We hauled a lot of stuff in his wagon. I’m exited for you. Hang in there . Your hard work is really showing. You are pioneering and there is no path you are building it .
Wilfred has a keen eye!!! 👍🏼☺️☺️
Ground source panels in a good spot sounds like the best solution longterm. Moving the bus is only temporary, I guess.
Yes that’s right we will be putting them on the barn roof asap but just need to get our full system set up and organised first ☺️
What a difference ..looks great ❤
Thank you so much! ☺️
You sure got a lot done this week too! The house is so beautiful with those large granite stones. It will be wonderful living there once you renovate it. The view is gorgeous!
We’re obsessed with the view!!!! 🙏☺️
Green tomato chutney is so lovely.

Tge children are beautiful,so well adapted already and learning Portuguese that’s just besutiful❤
They are going so well! Thank you 🙏 ☺️
Your last video the comments were turned off, so I can only imagine that someone had to ruin everyone’s day with rudeness or being snarky, and I’m so very sorry for that. People on the internet can be really rude sometimes. Love you guys, and I absolutely LOVE the sunset views you get off the lawn and over the edge out there! ❤
Your property and house r going to be amazing ❤
Thank you I hope so!☺️
Such is life, sometimes things don't go as we planned them. But even with occasional deasapointments new ideas and plans come up.
That is very true ☺️
Take your tomatoes of and put them in a sunny spot and they will turn red also frying green toms are nice worth a try
Yes great idea! 👍🏼
Try white vinegar if you like you can add a little water and spray the affected area.
Great idea thank you 🙏
Portugal all the process takes a long time 😅 I can see huge potential for your house, can wait to see all the changes .
Yes but we’re adjusting! So do we and can’t wait to start! 🙏☺️
Squirrels like fruit and nuts if you start setting it out you can eventually get them to eat from your hand be very carful they will bite if traped
I was thinking of leaving some food out for him! How amazing would that be if we could feed him ❤️🐿️
Remember to use all your clippings in your compost
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏🙏🙏🙏☺️☺️☺️☺️
Wow thank you so much for lovely and informative message, so many amazing tip that I will definitely take on board ☺️
So pleased your enjoying the videos and hopefully the ones to come! Thanks again ☺️

If you have any leaves touching the ground you will get it so make sure there is no leaves 8 inches from the ground.
Great advise thank you 🙏
And what a nice surrounding it is...imagine when your goal in mind is accomplished....it will be very nice 😊 and how cute are the kids with good Portuguese pronunciation 😎🤗 soon flowing 💫💯
They are just doing so well with their language! We’re so proud! 🙏☺️
Spraying soap & water as well helps
On the tomatoes? Great advise! Thank you 🙏☺️
Some solo systems store whats not used for days the sun doesn't appear 😊.
Most vegetables and fruit need 5 to 6 hours of sun a day especially tomato and peppers.
Lettuce and some other veg don't need as much as sun
We have big battery’s but using so much power at the moment wasn’t quite enough but seems to be sorted now ☺️
Thank you for the advice about the veg ☺️
Loved this video and really love the found toilet set. Great job
Thank you! We live a plum coloured loo!! 🙏☺️
I am excited about the house❤
Not as excited as us! 😂🙏☺️
The house is BIG😮. Very excited for the house build next. Could you raise the height of the ceiling?
We just love how cosy it is! But in some rooms your right! It might be the only way! 🙏☺️
Well done with what you have done, you were a little down at the beginning of the week but now the house looks as if will be started in another couple of weeks you certainly bucked up.❤️❤️❤️
Yea it was a low start but an energised ending to the week! Push on attitude needed! ☺️🙏
Love your family, be safe and well, much love to all ❤
Such great ideas!!! We will def use them! 🙏☺️
Yes we’re determined to make it work! Thank you 🙏☺️
You did really good with that clearing job!! Love the colour on the sink ,well done for keeping it XOXO
Thanks so much! 😊
My husband adds epsom salt to the base of our tomato plants. It seems to keep them healthy next year plant your tomatoes outside in a place that has part shade for some of the day tomatoes lovenheat but not a burning sun
Ohh great tip I’ll look in to that thank you ☺️
Gosh i love your video's never know what your up to great start look forward to all the rest woohoo xx😄😄😄xx
Thanks so much 😊
You guys make me laugh so much.
Your children are precious and loving where they are👏🏻👏🏻
Blessings 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Yes we’re planning possibly smaller and better next year!! Thank you 🙏☺️
Toms only like water from thr bottom ,thry hste there leaves being wet ,just sharing somthing i picked up and learned the hard way
Yes that’s mega advise thank you 🙏 ☺️
@@THESCOTTERS your so welcome ,
Like the bottom of the plant ,not the base of pot ,
I made the mistake of hose spraying ,all there leaves got wet and most shrivelled up ,
Hope it helps
