    I'm an introvert who has spent years camping alone in secluded locations in the forest. However, I always have protection with me. I won't camp or hike alone without it. Self defense from bears, pigs and other wild animals along with any human encounters is a must when you don't have numbers.

      Bears are the only thing I worry about in the woods. You at least have a chance against anything else. The only way to live through a bear attack is play dead and hope it's merciful. Even shooting the bear isn't a guarantee. People have emptied an entire magazine into a bear and still been mauled to death before the bear died.

      I've been dispersed camping/boondocking and Rving for years The safest place from crime is out in the wilderness. Faaar less people which makes it waaay safer than the city or even suburbs. Bears, rattlesnakes, mountain lions have been the worse things I've encountered. Noise while hiking usually prevents encounter.

      @@fluffylittlebear Depends on what kind of bear and what gun or caliber, not a single bear, not even a Grizzly, Kodiak or Polarbear can withstand a .44 or a 30-60 Springfield, let alone a complete mag of .44's .

    • @fluffylittlebear
      @fluffylittlebear Год назад

      @@laziojohnny79 From a pistol, it's possible a bear could survive 6 shots from a 44. It depends on the ammo type and load. I wouldn't put my faith in a .44 snubnose, for sure.
      But yeah, obviously a 30-06 will do the job. I have a 30-30 that is even better. It isn't really practical to carry a rifle around while hiking though. And if you're carrying a bolt-action, you only get one shot, and if the bear is charging at me, I don't like those odds!

    I had a similar experience to the first guy. Me and my bf when we were young you know went parking in the middle of nowhere in the woods at night. My bf had a big white van that looked like a serial killer van and we had a blow up mattress in the back. We heard what sounded like a person or animal rubbing along the outside of the van. I was terrified and so was my bf although he tried to act tough. My best guess is it was a deer or a cow or something bc it was tall. And of course the harder the wind blew the louder the moaning would get. And of course during our recess we all would have to take a wizz, but didn't want to go into the bathroom alone. Indeed; you never turn your back on a cougar.... OR START WALKING BACKWARDS!!
    Stand your ground, make a lot of noise and if the cougar still is in front of you; charge!
    It's not used being attacked and thus it's instinct will make it sprint for several 100 feet giving you the required distance and time to get out of the erea yourself, of course in opposite direction of where you were going. But it's even better to avoid a close encounter in the first place and thus not visiting those kinda bars ...

    I think you guys have to remember that the United States has far more wilderness and natural predators than the UK, so it's not necessarily a natural thing that you'd experience in England. Going out and camping in the backcountry, living off the grid, or wanderers who just live out of their trucks or campers isn't uncommon here in the U.S. I always went camping when I was younger. Rules for predators in the U.S.: cougars and wolves, make yourself as big as possible and yell. Bears, there's a saying: If it's black, fight back; if it's brown, lie down; if it's white, say good night. Never, ever run from a predator or turn your back on it. As to the woman who travels around alone, apparently without protection, and decides to talk back to the guy knocking on her van wtf, lady??

    The truck camping video is definitely fake for a multitude of reasons but the main things are his reaction, you wouldn't be talking to the gopro in that situation, you'd stay silent until they started to break in and then either yell something like "you're about to die mfer" (yelling aggressively in a deep voice usually scares people off in my experience) or you would just blow their brains out the second they started to break in if you had a gun which the NRA sticker on the side of the truck would indicate either he or the owner of the truck had.
    The second reason is because the the hand prints and marks all over the car look 100% intentional and wouldn't look like that if you were actually "trying" to break in or look through the glass and tied in to that you would definitely be able to hear the guy inside talking if you were that close to the car and even if you were on drugs or not scared or whatever you would either immediately leave, break in or start talking and instead according to the video and hand prints the dude just walked around the truck without doing anything when you could literally just open the back area because it can't lock from the inside so either the dude locked it and crawled in through the rear truck window or he didn't and either way the video makes zero sense from either perspective

    The fact that people will go camping without anything to protect themselves is absurd. At the bare minimum a large fixed blade knife in a sheath on the front of my belt is what I would want. If you're in bear country, you need bear spray, too. I'd prefer bear spray, the knife on the belt AND a semi-auto handgun if I'm camping in a tent. Bear country or not. If you encounter a mountain lion or other wild animal, rather than having to stab or shoot it, it would be best to use the spray. The bear spray also works on humans with bad intentions and keeps them at a distance so that you don't have to worry about using the last-resort knife at close distance or gun at all. Guns are for protection, but if I can help it, I still wouldn't want to kill a human or creature unless my life was in direct danger and I had no choice. Even in a Stand Your Ground state in the USA, you only stand your ground when you have no choice and your life is literally on the line. You should also have a very bright flashlight with you at all times. If he would have been armed, he could have shown the light right through even a tinted window and flashed a gun and the guy would have been gone.

      People who are ignorant about bears will tell you bear spray doesn't work. In reality, it's more likely to save your life from a bear attack than a gun is. Bears are harder to kill than people think. Especially with a pistol. I've heard stories about shotgun slugs bouncing off a bear's skull.

    Why wouldn't someone go into the woods to camp? You guys are way too citified.
    Running toward the cougar probably would have scared it off.
    Why in the world do you guys think woods are scary? You guys don't make any sense in that, the woods are the safest place you could be.
