    The simple fact is that SA developed a plan to take advantage of the inadequacy of the weak NZ referee at refereeing the scrum. The Beast, while being a strong and decent prop, swung his backside out clockwise and illegally bored in on the tight head (Vickery) while the SA hooker pushed left to force Vickery upward. The video is quite explicit. Most junior league front rows know how to do this, but most junior league referees know how to penalise it, unlike Bryce Lawrence. This is why Lawrence never got another match of any importance and disappeared into obscurity, thanks God.

      Peter Mitchell I think you’re forgetting the 2011 RWC quarter/semi (I don’t remember) finals, in which Bryce Lawrence ruined the game with his refereeing, it was after this game that he didn’t get another game of importance 😂

      You are correct, I will add that scrumming is the collective effort of 8 people and not just the prop! Beast and Bismarck made live hell for PV. Great job to the forward coach

    In my humble opinion that series was some of the best rugby I have ever seen...That 2nd Test at Loftus....hectic..so glad the Boks pulled through at the end.Must admit after watching Walking with the Pride I felt a bit sorry for O'Gara..The BIL changeroom was dead quiet...They must having been listening to the Boks celebrating as the change rooms at Loftus is quite close to each other

    What gets me and it’s unfortunately becoming more prevalent in the game is that loose heads are boring in on the opposite tight head, and the referees don’t penalise it, props are supposed under the laws push straight.
    Whilst there may be some dark mystical art to playing in the front row according to those that have never done it or are ex players commentating that have never played in that position.
    The truth of the matter is it takes a lot of strength and fitness to play either position, that said under the laws props of either persuasion have to push straight , if one pack gets the nudge on then fair enough, but the initial engagement AND following action is supposed to be straight not at an angle

    Vickery was certainly given a testing time against the beast in the first test, but in fairness to him, he came out in the third test and definitely got his own back on the South Africa scrum, ended up winning several penalties for the Lions. Credit to the guy, he knows how to fight back

    South Africa never had slaves. There are domestic workers (kinda like nannies) but they get paid and there is even a minimum wage. There was a racist white government, and now there is a racist black government.
    In the face of all of this, the Springboks overcome the obstacles and win world cups, Lions series, super 14s, tri nations, 7's world cups, masters world cups and become the IRB's world number 1 ranked team.
    Any other questions?

    a) It wasen't Phil's last game, he played in the third test. b) In the third test he got his payback against mtwarira and won a few penalties aswell as a solid performance in the loose. So no mate, mtwarira didn't end Phil's career, he ended it due to age and the accumulation of injuries. Watch the third test and see the improvement.

    • @mjribes
      @mjribes 4 года назад

      Got his payback? I love how this myth has grown in the minds of Lions fans. At best Vickery held his own - as you'd expect from an international prop. But the way he celebrated that parity speaks volumes about how he was bossed in the 1st test.
      For some perspective, here's a contemporary assessment of Vickery's performance: "Was clearly desperate for his shot at redemption and whilst he didn’t dominate his opposite number, he without a doubt held his own. A fully-commited workhorse, he showed up very well in the loose throughout the match showing good hands, and powerful bursts through the Springbok defense."

    Very conveninent classification, Salesharks07 ... Burger (and I'm not defending him) gets lambasted, but nothing is said about Jennings, Best and Quinlan, because it wouldn't "fit" with the Northern Hemisphere view of the "thugs" down south. Absolutely love the way we, the ABs and Wallabies are branded as thugs when we're winning, but the Brits and Irish are all "tough guys" when they're winning. Myopia seems to me the national sport up there.

Why does it look like the Beast is constantly getting under and driving up...rather than engaging and driving through?? @gfdsa54321k very true super 15 has better more aggresive rugby but the defence is lacking, I'm not saying they can walk to the line whilst reading a magazine of fhm but in the premiership take saracens who won the league this year and had one of the lowest bonus point scores, its just a different way to play, and yeah rugby isn't as big up here due to the littke thing called football that dominates every pub in this rock

    Really nha10? you advocate punching, do you? Play me ONE clip of the Lions series showing a Bok throwing a punch. Just one. As opposed to BoD, Phillips, etc ...
    Who're the thugs now? Gits.
