i have had a ficus umbellata for about a year now, and i can tell you they are very thirsty! at one point i kind of forgot about it for a few weeks, and all of it's leaves dropped off, so i did the same as you and i cut the top part of the stem to encourage new growth, and in no time there where buds forming, then just from there the growth skyrocketed! it just goes to show that plants are resilient and they want to live so never give up on your plant! ..... good luck to your ficuses! 😃
