    Buying a Leica, bought a used Leica on eBay, the Leica M 262 because it was the most affordable Leica I could find, although an M9 would be nice too. A Voigtlander lens will be fine when you can't afford Leica 35mm Lens.

    That’s one superb street setup! I could use that exact setup for years on end. Eventually add a V.3 Summicron and a 2.8/90 Elmarit M 6-bit and it’s a complete FF setup. What I mainly prefer over Fujifilm is the Shoot by Feel experience thanks to the MF-only options. That being said, in my hands, one brand is not above the other. They are just different and both highly recommended.

    Hi Liam, I went through the same emotional (certainly not practical) need to own a Leica. I wasn't convinced that using a range finder was going to be beneficial and I knew I could never afford an M body plus lenses so I went for the Leica Q2 with its autofocus and fixed 28mm lens. Used carefully (in spite of IBIS I experienced a lot of camera shake blur and its 47+ megapixel sensor is quite demanding) it produces superb images BUT I still find my XPro2/XT2 and X100v easier to use. I therefore think I could live without it but then, it is nice to own a Leica (for some inexplicable reason!)

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  3 года назад

      100% an X-Pro2 or similar is far more practical in many more situations. I think this was a case of now or never. There will always be an affordable used Fuji if this turns out to be a trainwreck :)

    If I were a burglar I would go for cameras with black tape on the front 🥲 I don’t really know why Wetzlar guys are not selling black tape rolls for 300$ (free biz idea!). I’d also go for cameras with big red dots on them ☹️ I’ll try a side by side at some point, but the x100v was gone for a few weeks before I got the 262 so it’ll never be an equal comparison unfortunately.

    My first digital M Leica was the M262 and absolutely adored it. I then traded it for the M-D262 which again suited me as primarily a film shooter. After that I got the M246 Monochrom and the SL. The Leica itch just gets ridiculous though and now I have the iiia, iiig, M6, M8, M10-P, Q2M and SL2-S. For me, as long as you enjoy the shooting process with whatever tool you have then great. I still use my ‘old’ Canon 5D mk1 on professional shoots!

    Hi Liam - Another interesting and very presented video. Leica’s are great and I should imagine that the true rangefinder experience is something special. My eyesight is not what it once was and I now wear glasses on occasions. I have purchased the Leica CL ( APS-C ) and the 23mm F2 summicron at a very good price. Once you get the hang of it , the camera handles beautifully - Its all very inspiring. I have used a Fuji XT2 in the past. I think Meyerowitz, Winogrand, etc, all idolized Cartier-Bresson, so they used the same camera.
    And the difference in depth of field between your Fuji is only 1.25 stops, ie. shooting the Fuji at f/1.8 vs f/2.8 on the FF camera. Hardly a big difference. APS-C, m4/3, FF are all miniature formats compared to medium format.

      There are plenty of fantastic manufacturers of Leica adaptable lenses besides Leica itself and they go back nearly 70 years: Zeiss, Voigtlander, Canon, Rollei, Minolta, Light Lens Lab to name a few. There is a Leica look and some of the Leica lenses are to die for but all of these brands produce/produced distinct signatures.

      Voigtlander is pretty well regarded on Leica's. If I had the money I'd buy a Summarit, but that's for another day. I'm also not yet sure I subscribe to the "Leica look" yet. No, it isn't wrong. I totally agreed the content of your vidéo (except the red dot masking). I bought a leica m10d, 3 months ago and I'm not rich, I used xpro's and x100v's since 10 years. I used film camera during 10 years before to switch to digital. Leica stayed always a expensive dream camera but I wasn't convinced to buy a digital one before the m10 series... I hesitate so much because the overpriced body, the fact I used evf and coming back to manual focusing is challenging. But... well, difficult to explain but after reading so much on internet and viewing so many youtube videos about the leica experience, I did the step (we have only one life). Since, fujifilm remain my backup camera and I didn't use it. I use the zone focusing most of the time in the streets and I have no problem with the exposure (I worried about it because I have no lcd screen). Then the expense worth it completely.
