A lot of different people believe and do different things. Truths are what they are regardless.
As a follower of Christ, I think I can recognize the kinds of situations you are eluding to about but would like to say something I feel is important.
Reality/truth isn't dualistic. It's not one or the other. It's not one causing or becoming the other. It's non-dual, which is a phrase that attempts to recognize all and disclude nothing. It is in this way, that we must begin to see ourselves in the world. We are not just our bodies, minds, or memories in the same way that our bodies aren't just meat, our minds aren't physical, and our memories aren't really of ourselves; a song isn't just sheet music or sound. A symphony is more than it's perfected execution, it's done for the over specticle, the challenge, for expression. It's*not* done so that it continues for ever tho. It's paradoxical and illusive for reasons that we don't see through conscious lensing. Fear of death and the unknowable or unattainable is programmed into us by what people call Satan. Satan/Lucifer was God's first and most perfect creation but he became too perfect and powerful such that he believes he can/will overthrow God and the saints.
The fight is going on through us in our individual lifes. It's creations most natural underlying negativity vibration.. which is.. the first and favorite childs relationship to parents gone bad. The child grows powerful enough to see parents mistakes and out of resentment and disconnection, makes the mistake of trying to take control of what made him in the first place. Will Lucifer win? No because he can't and the sad part is it's because he refuse to see the good that overcomes the bad from the very beginning. He wanted it to be all good and because it wasn't, he causes the first vibrations of sin pride that exists in Gods created children. Now, God's favorite Children are those who are as prideless and innocent as they can be.
Don't you see? How it reverberates through us all? Can't you feel it all in yourself and how you see others? Do not most of us who are truly powerful also have to always fight the equal capacity of pride too? I do almost all the time. I feel it inside me now, wanting to believe that I am better/more righteous than I really am, denying my own imperfections and closing my heart off too God.
Breath... In .... out. Remind yourself of what you really love about reality and why. You must love yourself but if you only existed as yourself, you would realize that it was always "other" that you needed.
Maybe that is hell? Suffering through your own pride alone until you find your way out...

I don't believe in human sacrifice.
In my 57 years I directly ask God to save me from disparity once. suffering at the hands of evil once. And death once. All 3 times he responded with love and saved me. I still have some thoughts that I'm a strong man and can handle anything but they are few and far between. My faith and love of the lord is rock solid and nothing on earth can shake it. We must go freely to him so he will know your love is true. All I said is true I have known so much hurt that my life was not worth living. But I believed in him my whole life.

When I was a child, maybe five or six years old, I had a dream; in my dream, I was coming out of my house and at my right hand side, I saw a long ladder going up to the sky and on the top, I saw a throne, gold and red, and Jesus was sitting on it. I've heard Jesus' voice so loud i thought everyone else heard it. That definitely made me a believer for the rest of my life. I had read the Bible four times from Genesis to Revelations when I was young and something went into my subconscious,v and I believed differently than everyone else. When I asked a question of a Sunday school teacher or a preacher they always told me the opposite of how I believed. So I thought it would be easier to say I was am atheist rather than explain my beliefs. A girl in my physical education class asked me if I believed in God, I told her I was an atheist. A voice inside me said "No you're not!" so loud I thought everyone in the room heard it. The girl turned and walked away from me but I wonder to this day if the Holy Spirit told her the truth, also.
Of all my regrets. This is the one I remember most, not telling her the truth of how I believed. It could have been a great changing point in my life.
Yes this was a defining moment. You will see her again one day, and you can share this moment again with her.

The ladder in so much as it can be seen is not unlike the dna helix which science has identified as being at the core of our creation . _when I was 25 I was doing the (intensive) daily workbook lessons In A Course in Miracles, which is a book that Jesus truly truly wrote through a scribe, for us people living in the MODERN era.... Anyway I had a very vivid dream one night that I was climbing up a ladder -- it was vertical into the sky -- and there were all these people and faces around me, but I literally ignored them, focusing all of my attention exclusively on traveling up the ladder. Suddenly I was at the top of a gigantic circle sitting, next to Jesus, with our feet hanging down into the circle. I didn't even know what Jacob's Ladder was. So, I know what the ladder is. I knew that it meant that I had overcome the world._

Thinking back when I was a child. I also dreamed God placeing stairs in front of me to heaven.

After car accident I was ascending into clouds being attracted to bright light. At first it was like trudging thru up hill then deeper wet snow, then mud. All of a sudden it started to become much easier, like on a beach in the wet sand, then dry finally climbing stairs. Closer I got easier it became finally onto a escalator then just reaching out and becoming weightless. Light was beyond blinding even with eyes closed head turned, it permeated everything just as so was the emanation of Outstanding unbelievably strong Love! Felt relieved, safe and finally HOME. Until a loud thundering voice said 'he's not ready yet' then bam n dam! I awoke back at accident scene. That was two extremes too close together, the hug of love then disappointment in a instant that I wasn't staying.

the only jacobs ladder i know of is the RUSH song from their album " exit stage left". It states the whole story in music form. you can feel jacobs struggle, betrayal, despair, ascendance, victory all in the song if you listen real carefully. and thats enough for me to learn the whole story from start to finish.
