"I went to your schools, I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning facilities" classic!
The bass player left in 1987. In 1989, Robert Trujillo joined Suicidal. He is now the bassist for Metallica.
John Campbell Very good Einstein. He also played for Ozzy, Black Label Society and infectious grooves.
He just wanted a pepsi that's all
Yo. This was my suggestion. Thanks for choosing it. You should check out the original video. Lots of your questions will be answered. Lol. These guys were a pretty influential band back in the day and mixed a lot of different styles together. It’s a lot to deal with upon first listen cause it’s not your straight forward metal band.
If you look up the lyrics you’ll see it’s actually a pretty “deep” song that deals with some heavy stuff.
Yup. I've been listening to this song for over 30 years. Pull it up every now and again when I need some catharsis.
All he wanted was a Pepsi...
#freemikemuir
Headbangers Ball played the video for this every Saturday night.
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES - YOU CANT BRING ME DOWN
He reacted to this sing
@@45banshee I'll have to check that out. That whole album is pretty good, actually.
watch Body Count's version of Institutionalized....video
Yes... A brilliant updated cover that's unquestionably more relatable.
Body Counts cover is part omage and powerful update in one.
This was an anthem for the youth of the 80’s! I saw them in concert, and it was insane!
The funny thing is, kids today would still rather have a Pepsi than have their parents lurching over them.
You absolutely had the right song. I'd call it more punk than metal, but with an understanding that labels like that can be unnecessarily limiting.
The band that most perfectly straddled the Hardcore/Metal line.. OG thrash...
These guys look like L.A. gangstas but play metal .
Yeah, LOL. Had that whole Skater/Latino Gangster vibe back in the day LOL.
bryan m Lol they look that way because they are from LA and back in the 80s & 90s everyone was gang banging hard as fuck.
Venice is something different compared to the rest of la surfing skating graffiti tourist everyday and the hood
they got banned from playing in LA due to gang activity and violence at their shows. They had V13 friends
They grew up in a bad neighborhood in California. They before M.
In the original cut, the lyrics were, " It doesn't matter, "The insurance money is about to run out anyway, " meaning you're cured after there's no money left.
Hey, man. Just found your channel. I think this song makes more sense when you see the music video along with the song... especially for a first time listener.
Cheers.
Also, Ice-T's metal band Body Count does an amazing cover of Institutionalized, complete with music video.
That whole album is awesome. A few I would recommend to listen to if you were to just pick a few: I saw your mommy, Suicidal Failure, and I Shot the Devil.
Ron Balch
Suicidal Failure may be the best Suicidal song of them all
All I wanted was a Pepsi!
This is one of the most prolific modern punk-rock songs of all time!
Huh? This is from 1983.
The music video is at 13M views, it was a hit during the MTV era
Their bass player is now in Metallica, and the drummer of Slayer is now in Suicidal Tendencies.
Legendary song but you should listen to “subliminal” by them
You Can't Bring Me Down should have been the first song you've listened to from them. Good to see you back in my notifications.
They actually appeared on an episode of "Miami Vice" lol
A whole genre defined by this man wanting a Pepsi someone get him a god damn Pepsi
Heck yeah!
edit - Yes - this is the real song. They made a real music video for it which should be here on RUclips. I was excited to see this song pop up in the notifs. You are kicking butt with your song selections! This 80s California punk isn't exactly my genre, but I def remember rocking out to this. The lyrics and aggression resonated for a 13 year old Afro-punk trapped in the midwest. Thanks for this review!
Suicidal Tendencies Possessed to Skate, Trip at the Brain, Pledge your Allegiance 🤘🤘
I'm soooooo glad to see you are doing this song. 👍👍
This is a classic. Great video thanks
infectious grooves..........MIKE MUIR.......side project.....PUNK IT UP.....U WILL LOVE IT
You got the right tune, RRT!! It's so good every time.
How will I laugh tomorrow, Is a more traditional song by S.T., A good one as well.
Isaac Hayes version of By The Time I Get To Phoenix is really dope & Shaft theme is also.
1) Yes, this is the right song. Their 1st album is the only one I like. 2) The only Isaac Hayes song I know is "Theme from the Movie Shaft", 3) a suggestion for WTF? Wednesday: Klaus Nomi "Total Eclipse". He was a singer with a tenor voice and did Rock, Opera, and movie songs ("Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead" from the "Wizard of Oz"). He also appeared as a backup singer for David Bowie when he was on SNL.
Klaus Nomi was a legend. Truly trippy and talented fellow.
Isaac Hayes best song is chocolate salty balls from South Park
Tracks probably older then you lol
It came out in 83' frm the streets of Venice Beach, California
If im correct This jam gave Muir and the gang a huge break thru on Mtv with this video and over night Suicidal was a house hold name along with Send me your Money both unique this one tho got them nomimated for a Grammy best metal track or sumthn like that fuck i cant remember its been so long i was a teen back then
Mike Muir is a Skate punk pioneer he writes all his own lyrics molds and engineers all his own songs Definatley this dude has a unique sounding voice That 1st albums beyond sick
He started tha fast screaming punk vocals over thrashy metally punkish riffs wit killer leads and twangy ass bass lines
I seen them perform last night here in My home town San Pedro,So cal..They fckn killed it..Rob trujllos(Metallica,ex Ozzy&Suicidal)son was rippin the bass'kid kills it-and Dave lombardo frm Slayer and the Misfits on percussions..Dont kno the guys names on gutairs but they fckn shredded..I think it was the Best show ive ever been...
Janzig Skylarker I was born in 74 lived in Cali in 83 😊
I've always loved this band!!!
Great you just entered the world of PUNK ROCK and that song will never leave your ears
Love you man Rock on
I have a recording of my uncle farting into a trumpet. I definitely think some people would be interested listening to it, only $2.00 a listen. LOL
orbithesun1 🤔 💨 👃 💀
This is the content I'm here for!
BTW, I think "Walk On By" is Dionne Warwick
The song and video that turned me on to them back in the day. I like them for being what I would call, Skater Metal... the music you listen to while you would skateboard. That said, I have their full catalog and I like them. On the real, Body Count did an excellent cover of this song on their last album.
You says it all !! :)
Ok....just listened to “War Inside My Head” from back in the day... grunge style...much better than what you listened to, somewhat metal but still don’t care for it. Never have. It’s all good WE ALL have our different styles✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
That's a hell of a good song. Revisited it about a year ago after having forgotten all about it. It's aged very well and is just as good now as it was when it was released.
I know you are a fan so I had to tell you of the MOST AMAZING VIDEO I just watched. It’s 28 minutes of greatness. STEVIE RAY VAUGHN Presidential Inauguration (for Bush in 1989). You must do.. the concert is the best I’ve ever seen. It features Albert King and Stevie’s big brother, Jimmie. Get ready to be blown away. He is in rare form...absolutely tireless.
The original video is best because you can follow both lyrics and what is happening on screen.
Yea ,thanks for the killer reaction, more please
Send more suggestions please and thanks
Love Suicidal Tendencies!
Probably no views because it's the remastered version. Maybe, I don't know. Just a thought.
Try watching an Australian band called Twelve Foot Ninja. They have some funny videos and switch genres regularly through teach song. Try ‘sick’ or ‘we’re coming for you’ or ‘one hand killing’.
You may also want to check out, Loco by Coal Chamber.
Its called HARDCORE BRO thats funny u say it sounds like hip hop .in some ways the old HARDCORE like suicidal and New york Hardcore had a gangster street vibe . check out madball, agnostic front, Biohazard and sick of it all for starters.and more suicidal!
Nice to see a Madball shout out.
OpThomasPrime fuck YA. Dont forget BLOOD FOR BLOOD BRO and SKARHEAD
this is classic punk rock brother
raybeez55 yea I’m being told in the comments thanks. I learn as I go. ✌️
@@themightyfp you keep it honest brother..thats why i enjoy watching your channel..lots of good music out there enjoy my friend
More like classic shit. This song was terrible, and people have the nerve to like this garbage, but talk negative towards mumble rap. Mumble rap blows this song out the water. The guy in the song literally talked non sense through the whole song. COMPLETE TRASH!
@@jhud2788 Lol I like mumble rock and mumble rap but yeah the mumbling of grunge music, for example, was part of its appeal.
J Hudson subjective, respect people’s opinions asshole
Awesome, maybe some bad religion? Your channel is badass bro keep it up. Punk isn't dead 🤘
I want the Twins to react to this... I'll send them a case of Pepsi..
Who r the twins ?
Somebody give that man a Pepsi
I first heard this back on 106.7 KROQ back in 80s. It was love at first hear. I didn't over analyze it. It sounded great. That's all I knew.
great reaction
JUST ONE PEPSI!
ahem....
I'm torn between whose side I want to be on.
The quote "I was like staring at the walls thinking about everything, but then again I was thinking about nothing" hints that he may, indeed, be stoned. And then he blows up over a pepsi, to distract from the situation at hand. Later, he points out to his parents, "I went to YOUR schools, I went to YOUR churches, I went to YOUR institutional learning facilities. So how can you say I'M crazy?" As if, it's not his fault he turned out the way he did, and his parents are being hypocritical.
Yet, he sheds the most insight during the parts that are hardly audible - the ones right before the choruses (best parts):
"So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
You won't have any say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way"
"They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy"
"They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
Mentally I'll be dead"
This shows that he is capable of thinking for himself. He is determinded that he just an individual. To lock him up in an institution would rob him of his uniqueness and way of thinking.
Is he crazy? Others may think so, but in his head, he's not. This is a classic song though, if you’re a metal head & don’t know this song, you ain’t a metal head !!
I was wondering when you'd get to this song. It's fairly old..someone else can tell you the year. Honestly, I only played this song, real loud, when I wanted to annoy someone. 🤣 But, I've grown-up alot since then.
Released in 1983.
This was off the 1st album in 1983 - There is an old original Video Clip with the song - This is more Thrash Punk Story Telling -Skater Punk -They became more Metal After this and had more money for Production -Legendary I ntelligent FunnyTeen angst song

Used to love this song in highschool...lol
Suicidal Tendencies, hip-hop, hardcore punk, thrash, skate, surf you name it. These guys influenced crossover bands.
One of the greatest songs eva
Got to check out the band Primus! Songs-Tommy the cat! And Winona’s big brown beaver!
Still waiting to get my Pepsi...
Welcome to SoCal skater punk. Somebody bring me a halfpipe and a Pepsi!!!
The guitar in this song is so underrated but I can see why
You're kinda weird aren't ya? Haha! Welcome to the club!
Punk ROCK! do your homework! Watch SLC PUNK! great movie
That look on your face says it all.
I remember seeing this album when I was 13, and seeing them hanging upside down in the jungle gym,and thinking these dudes are fucking nuts.. Lol If you're going to check out some body count go with " all love is lost," great video too....and if not Issac Hayes, howz about some Sam Cooke? Or......"woke up dreaming" by Joe Bonamassa with Tina Gua. Btw you had the right song, right tempo.
This song is fantastic, very underrated band, but, check out the cover of this song by Ice-T if only for your own enjoyment. Enjoying your journey, keep up the great work.
This is a great song, but I agree with you about the quality of the recordings. I think because they were on a smaller label that the engineering wasn't quite as good? That being said, I think with the message and the whole mood of the song, a more polished production would really take something away from it, as it was intended to be. It's a vibe of total chaos, confusion, and anger, and so the low quality really contributes to that gritty, dirtier sound. It's not really meant to be sophisticated. You'll find the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, and a lot of punk bands had that sound. One of my favorite underground bands, The Screaming Tress, really used this sound in an excellent way.
They did a re-recording of the song in the "Still cyco after all these years" album with a much higher production quality including the music video along with it.
This is what it's like being raised by a Karen.
one of the first songs i ever watched on late night tv rock shows by that band, mike muir is poet when it comes to lyrics, the bassist trujillo moved on to metallica. these fuckers meant everything to me and i WASN'T suicidal. so many songs.
do some reactions to Isaac Hayes as the duke from the movie "escape from new york" he was cool in that.
You got the right song but yeah it's definitely raw punk style metal
Check out Murphy’s Law - Quest for Herb
I like the other version from Primal Cuts. Just a bigger energy to that one
A mix between Punk and metal.... but back in the day we just called it Skate Punk... great stuff, but I’m sure not what you were expecting!
You should watch the video. Real old school. Vatos and Rock . Lol
Bad Brains - Big Takeover live cbgb
"Walk on by" Isaac Hayes
E Town Concrete - Mandibles
I can't remember if you like Metallica, but the current bass player is from this band. Pink hat works. I couldn't do it though.
TheOriginalFILIBUSTA I did enjoy some Metallica
You're bugging Classic underground Covered by Body Count with lyric changes.
i consider this punk. reminds me of the movie slc punk
i can change your mind .....lets be friends
1983 dude, you gotta know when something came out to understand where it stands, day one stuff bro
Thought you wasn't enjoying it at first lol
Suzanne Uribe I have an odd face 😆 ✌️
Body Count does a cover of this song
This is the shit! SoCal hardcore. This is the right song, my boy playin' bass here is putting down the bottom line for Metallica nowdays. Lemme grab a drink of my Pepsi. Ahh!
Look for the original MTV Music Video
Wait really you didn’t know it was a “real” song? My high school. Love this song. Probably because I grew up with it.
This came out in '83
You have to watch the video.
Truthfully, you gotta see the video to understand that it's not supposed to be taken AT ALL seriously. Haha!
Bad Brains please
Need some Death Angel please
Dude it’s the message and the commentary on how fucked up the mental system is.
He looks like mike is mad at him😂
Yeah, that's the right song. It's... don't take it seriously, just have fun with it. I'm not crazy!
You're the one that's crazy!
