- A Colorado jury awarded a 78-year-old woman $3.76 million after a heavily armed SWAT team raided her house. The SWAT team was searching for a stolen truck that contained six guns and an iPhone. The Find My Phone app had pinged near Ruby Johnson’s house but not in, or at, her home. The SWAT team ended up raiding the wrong house. As Inside Edition’s Les Trent reports, the city now has to pay up.

@pde2619 the warrant was issued by the judge at the request of a government official and the warrant specifies that the house on video was to be searched and the suspect arrested. The guy they were looking for moved.
Same thing happened to Anjanette Young in Chicago, but she was naked and they were questioning her with no clothes on for several minutes, almost an hour, she had to just stand there butt naked, tons of cops walked all thru her home, and they broke the lock on her door, she couldn't even close it when they finally left, they were at the wrong address, it was beyond disgusting to watch, she sued Chicago and won!!!

That’s not what happened the lead detective lied and told the judge that apple said that the device locator was accurate enough for a search warrant. It says the exact opposite on their website. The phones locators can be several blocks off.
Edit the Lead detective should be criminally charged. There is no record of him contacting Apple.

@@tdane5017 Click, or touch read more. The lead detective lied about the location the phone gives being accurate enough for a search warrant, and that he had contacted apple to confirm it. My phone more often then not shows up as being in my neighbor's living room or front yard, or the middle of the street when it in my room. When you look at locator it has a big circle around the dot you phone is likely in that big circle, but could be even further away. If he had actually contacted apple the would have told him that. The only thing a device locator proves is that is in the vicinity of her home not in it.
She deserved every penny and I hope that she can now truly enjoy the rest of her years.

My dad represented a family who had a snap on tools truck collide with their vehicle. It severed the mom’s head, which then flew into her son’s lap in the backseat. The driver had falsified his logs and said he checked the rig when he hadn’t. The trailer was loose. I’m fairly sure that family was awarded less money. I’m sure it was awful what the woman went through. But 3.76 million in compensation to a 78 year old woman for that?🤔

She didn't sue the department. She sued them personally. It's not their pensions that she took. She took everything they and their spouses worked for over their entire lifetime. Their house, their car, and their pension over a mistake. That's just not right. I could see maybe $50k, but 4 million dollars over this directly from the officers is not fair. Imagine losing everything you and your spouse ever earned and ever will earn because a judge signed off on a warrant that they shouldn't have. The entire purpose of having a judge sign off on a warrant is that the judge is supposed to confirm that it's a constitutional search.

I can't believe the swat officer asked her if she had any weapons on her. If anything, she's 78 and needs some protection.
