  • Catch And Cook - Surf And Turf Mangrove Snapper.
    Taking a break from the Tarpon because I am hungry. The winds are back up so decided to hit a very secluded spot that generally is protected regardless of wind condition. • Prospecting NAS Bay - ... . I was able to score some Pilchards which was a huge benefit. After launching, I headed to the dug out channels that were made for what must have been a planned residential area that did not get developed. I basically targeted the entrance ways as that tends to be where fish hang out waiting to ambush food getting flushed through. Even in bad conditions, I was able to pull in some pretty good Snappers.
    For dinner, I made Mangrove Snapper on the half shell (Filet but leave the skin and scales on.) I am going to be doing some French Dip sandwiches so for the turf I chose a Top Round roast. Sides were a foil baked yam with butter and brown sugar, and a stuffed roasted bell pepper with onions, mushrooms, bacon, and rice.

    Back between 1978 and 1981 I rented the downstairs of a house on Osprey Ln just a few feet from where you launched your kayak from in this video. I fished and hunted lobster in those cuts and explored NAS Bay out of a canoe back then. You are making me homesick for the keys. I may have to tow my boat down there before long.

      Things probably haven't changed much in that neighborhood. No real new developments down there. Just a bit more worn down. I doubt anything has been changed since the economy crashed.

    You seem like a good guy. I don't usually like channels like this but the time you let those fish go because you already had what you wanted seemed to moved me. Here's my sub man.

  • @jchae35jc
    @jchae35jc 7 лет назад +51

    keep what you eat for that day is a good practice. Unfortunately there are ppl who keep everything, put them in the deep freezer and repeat. Year goes by and now they wanna make room in their freezer for more fish. So not only did they not eat them, they killed the fish for nothing. That make me more mad than anything. So Steve letting them snappers go was the right thing to do.

    • @KeyWestKayakFishing
      @KeyWestKayakFishing  7 лет назад +6

      Yea, I don't freeze fish for just that reason. Freezers are for chum and bait. LOL.

    • @rslack78
      @rslack78 7 лет назад +2

      Key West Kayak Fishing that's easy for single people with no kids to say. I buy and keep lots of fish but it gets eaten. I don't live close enough to saltwater to just decide to go outside and grab a snapper for dinner. that's why a lot of people keep limits.

    • @nicksfix8609
      @nicksfix8609 7 лет назад +4

      not to be disrespectful but there are so many fish that it hardly matters but i like to think when i let them go that i earn some cosmic karma from appreciating life

    • @jchae35jc
      @jchae35jc 7 лет назад +7

      that's not a problem keeping your limit. When I go to the gulf. I catch my limit and bring it back to georgia. I'm talking about certain ppl who just keep just to keep. Maybe it's for bragging..who knows. I just know there are certain ppl who kill then dump them in the trash just to make room for more fish. it's just idiotic.

    Here's a tip for you when cooking with butter. Add just a tiny bit of veggie oil to the pan with the butter. That way, your butter won't burn or turn brown when cooking fish or meats.

    another nice snapper video. Ive mentioned before how much your videos have helped me while down there, just returned from a couple weeks of vacation down there. thanks again for being so unselfish with helping people out. I posted a pic on your facebook page of a nice mutton snapper I caught out of that quarry near the sugarloaf jumping bridge. I lost several big fish in that quarry that I never saw. caught a few schoolmaster snapper and some mangroves. already counting down my days till next march...god I love it down there!

      Yea, the night time munchies are hard to overcome by just having fast food options. Mangroves are my staple food fish. Love em. Thats a trick I learned. Eat the thinner parts and edges that night. The next day after I heat it up, it cooks it more and then the balance is just right. It's a steak strategy. LOL.

    "This will probably piss some people off" Lol thats the way, only take what you need. Release the other fishes that you dont intend on eating

    i love how you satisfy those weirdos. Lol. Hey Im coming down to South beach for a bachelor party. Any suggestions on fishing spots? We might come down to keywest.

      Gotta keep them hanging around. LOL. Weird but they help. Fishing is great from south Florida all the way down to the Keys. The winds on the other hand can make things difficult. The bridges in the Middle Keys are always cool to fish.

    This is one of my favorite channels, when I retire (some day) I can only hope to have a life like yours. Also; how are you not 400 pounds? I simply breath around chocolate and I gain weight
