Metroid Prime aged like fine wine. The music, atmosphere, boss fights and sounds were really memorable. There's no other game with that much detail in design during its time.
Fun fact: Retro Studios first big 3D project was this game.
I want Nintendo to release the Trilogy already so I can relive this moments again.

I was 25 when this was released. It was my favourite game back then and nothing has engrossed me as much as this since. There is not enough praise which can be heaped on this utter masterpiece. The way Retro Studios transitioned Metroid from 2D to 3D is stunning.

Awesome thing about Metroid Prime is that there were a lot of "sequence" breaking tricks that veteran players could learn and allow for very different type of playthroughs. It was something that was also present in Super Metroid and not sure if on purpose or not but it's somethign that they were able to bring over and transalate into 3d. A true masterpiece

Metroid Prime on Primehack and Echoes on dolphin, at 1080p@60fps, is the most surreal, and yet amazing experiences I've had. I mean, you get widescreen, the freedom you get moving around with the unlocked cam, and the natural story line, graphics, and puzzles of the games just are one of a kind! Metroid Prime 3: Corruption had a small bit of difficulty with a normal controller, but still accomplishable. All of you, play the game! The story does have its path, but its just one of the best!

I got a Gamecube and Metroid Prime the same Christmas, so this was my first introduction to the console. I loved this game but back then I was terrified of playing it by myself so I always had my dad or one of my friends with me while I played it. I remember buying the Strategy Guide shortly after Christmas and reading it for hours, and my firneds and I would take turns trying bosses and working through areas collecting power ups and whatnot.

I'm playing this right now on my Steam Deck.
Just wondering, has anybody noticed how insanely tight the aiming feels with a stick? I'm KB+M for lyf, but this one just feels great. It reminded me of playing halo for the first time in 2001 or 2002. Years of CSS convinced me that twin sticks, while serviceable, would never come close. Then I played Halo and realised they wouldn't be equal, but they had gotten closer than I'd ever imagined.
I'm having the same thing here. There's something about the smoothing applied to the aim that makes aiming easier than in any game I've played recently (and having just got my Deck, you better believe I've been playing all of the classics from 1990-present).
This is awesome, I'm loving it.

I think I was only 8 or 9 when I bought Prime. I bought it off my neighbor who was getting rid of some of his Gamecube games... he only asked me for like five bucks. Man, if that's not the best five dollars I ever spent in my life, I don't know what is.
Metroid Prime was one of the first games I ever played where I hadn't seen my older brother already play/beat it. I went in completely blind. I remember walking aimlessly around chozo ruins in wonder and fear. Retro Studios nailed _everything_ about the game; the music, the sound design, the enemy design, the bosses, the progression from power suit samus to Phazon Suit and everything in between...
My favorite memory is that I used to go from the chozo ruins into magmoor caverns without the Varia Suit. I thought you had to run through Magmoor and race against the clock before you burned to death LOL. I figured it out eventually but not until a year or so later. Anyway, Prime is easily my favorite game of all time. No other game is as emblematic as Prime is for my childhood/formative years. I'm even considering getting a tattoo based on the beam hand shapes - some kind of subtle nod to the impact this game had on me.
The fact that I can play it on PC is just... wow. I can't wait to try it out!!

Primehack on the Steam Deck is amazing! With the paddels on the back you don't have to take your thumb off the right stick at any given time and as the Deck comes with build in gyro, this is the best of both worlds. I really doubt, that a possible MPT port for the Nintendo Switch can beat this way of playing the MPT on the go.

  • @LogainAblar

I'm playing through the Prime series again on Steam Deck using PrimeHack. The key reason I'd still rather replay this series on Steam Deck as opposed to a Nintendo re-release on Switch are the controls. Due to Steam Deck supporting full trackpad and gyro use, I'm playing it using the left analog stick and the right track pad with gyro for a true m/kb feel without the m/kb. Set PrimeHack to "Mouse" controls, set the Steam Deck trackpad and gyro to "As Mouse" in the controller config screen and reassign the Beam selector to the right analog stick. Turn down vertical scaling sensitivity to 20 or 30 so fast horizontal swipes are easier to keep the camera level, Set Gyro to activate on Right Touch Pad touch. That's it. The difference is awe inspiring.
I waited and waited for Nintendo to re release Metroid Prime on Switch. Well, they done ****** up because Prime Hack is so good on Steam Deck, I don't even care about an official Switch re-release. It's a hassle to set up my Wii or WiiU just to play Metroid Prime since both consoles are packed away. PrimeHack and Steam Deck to the rescue. Valve has become one of my all time favorite hardware manufacturers specifically due to Steam Deck and the PrimeHack modders have become one of my all time favorite devs.

I think the reason why Metroid Prime is so brilliant is that they managed to implement that extra mile with sets it apart from your usual FPS game (I believe it is actually marketed as an FPA from Nintendo, standing for First Person Adventure).
The extra mile being the very technology of Samus Aran's suit, since it becomes tangible to us and translates into vital game mechanics. You use it to gather information about pretty much everything around you and I can't help but feeling like Samus Aran herself as as I'm playing this. The moment which was the most immersive for me is when I tried to go into a submerged area before getting the Varia Suit and my field of view was extremely limited and my movements were awkward and clunky. I almost fell the pressure of the water around the suit ahah.
Amazing game! It's quite rare for me to write a comment on RUclips but I just wanted to share my love and thank you for sharing this hack with this video. I played it for the first time around 4 years ago, since I had skipped the Gamecube back then and once I moved to the UK this and Eternal Darkness were the very first retrogames I purchased.
Last but not least, when I realised the hand of samus changed position according to the beam currently enabled (and that the hand reflected each picture) I was speechless.

Some people dislike prime 2, some people prefer prime 2. Prime 2 i feel could be a challenging and interesting game for people who just started playing the series, but for veterans of the series and hardcore gamers, it is full of flaws and problems. Personally, it just makes me frustrated and bored even if it still is a good game overall, it has balancing, exploration and bug problems, but a new player might not see them and enjoy it more than the others

    • @SolidStateSimulations
      @SolidStateSimulations 2 года назад +3

@@raineyoung3291 Funny, I've had the opposite problem. I feel like Prime 1 has a few pretty annoying "where the hell do I go moments" where the hint system seems almost like an obligation, while Prime 2 follows Metroid 2's level design philosophy more closely, which is segregating different areas and having as little to no backtracking as possible. There are literally only three times in Prime 2 where it's *required* to backtrack to an earlier area in a completely different region to get an upgrade (not counting the sky temple keys) whereas Prime 1 has a lot of that.
Really the main problem about Prime 2 is the goddamn sky temple keys bullshit, in fact all Prime games have a pretty annoying late game fetch quest (fuck the artifact treasure hunt bullcrap) to artificially extend the game's length, something Retro Studios actually tried to fight against but Nintendo designers made it a requirement because they thought it "brought more value". I disagree, so does Retro Studios. Prime 3 has less of that, but still...
Prime 2 is hard at first because you don't get the Dark Suit until a *little* bit later so the dark atmosphere is a threat in on itself, meaning energy tanks are REALLY important, and the bosses also range from really good to straight up padding, and from piece of cake to hair pulling insanity. I still highly recommend playing Prime 2 however because the game only gets better as you go. If you can get to the point of beating the Jump Guardian and think the game is fun thus far, you can totally and realistically beat it. People tend to give up earlier than that point because they think that the rest of the game is going to be an infuriating mess like the start of it, which isn't really true. Really the only hard bosses after that are Boost Guardian and THE FUCKING SPIDER GUARDIAN. Everything else is kind of on par with Prime 1 and as the game goes on, it just becomes more and more like Prime 1, and even better because of the screw attack and the crazy new beams. Again, the critique of Prime 2's difficulty is a bit overblown as it only really applies to the strange difficulty curve thrown right at the start and early parts of the game, but like I said, it tends to get better, easier and more fun afterwards. Keep fighting!

I'd have enjoyed this a lot more if that wasn't a thing or was at least doubled from the start. 50 shots really isn't a lot & you don't find expansions for a while.
