Good illustration. But here is the thing: regardless the slab is supported on two or four edges, it's a all about Ly/Lx. i.e., we can have a slab supported on four edges yet it can be classifies as a one-way slab coz Ly/Lx >2, in such case (as a designer) there's no need to support the slab with beams on all edges as two beams only will suffice.
it could be Ly/Lx < 2 and supported only by beams going in one direction, this is considered one-way slab, that's why you need to take into consideration the method of construction. (Material sometimes can affect the distribution of the load too)
Muhannad Husain yeah that’s what i am trying to say, because you said first no matter what if it is supported on 2 edges or 4 edges all we need to care is about Ly/lx which is wrong
@@exotic5035 It's not wrong. Ly/Lx ratio will demostrate the actual slab behaviour, then it's all up to the engineer (designer). But basically, it's all about the ratio (regardless you put the beams in one direction or two). Leeme ask you, a 3mx15m slab supported on all edges, would you classify it as one-way or two-way and why ?
Muhannad Husain so your telling me that if we have 2 beams supporting a slab in one direction could act in a two way slab depending on the Ly/Lx ratio? , and for the answer 4 beams supporting an edge in 2 direction with it ratio being >>2 then it’s definitely a one way slab which means that those two 3m beams are nearly holding negligible loadings.
Hi, I want to discus two scenarios... Firstly if L/B is less than 2,, and slab rests on 2 sides only....It will be one way or two way then? secondly, if L/B is =1,, and slab rests on 2 sides only....It will be one way then?
Thank you, sir. Q.when we designed a " column" and "beam" in one structural building which one is stronger / weak as compared to other(column and beam).may be you understand what I'm talking...
Sir, I want to ask a question here, please tell me the difference between one way slab and 2 way slab, one way slab means, we will arrange steel rods only on one side ( from left to right) and 2 slab means, we need to arrange the steel rods from (left to right and again from top to bottom)? Am I correct?
Dear You are right " the Exact Definition is One way slab is a slab which is supported by beams on the two opposite sides to carry the load along one direction. Two way slab is a slab supported by beams on all the four sides and the loads are carried by the supports along with both directions.

Ly/Lx < 2.0 (two way slab)
Ly/Lx > 2.0 (one way slab)...
for one way slab, is this still applicable even it is supported in 4 edges as long as the L/B ratio is greater than 2?
Good illustration.

Great sir, but it's also a request to clear a concept about load distribution on one way and two way slab, or otherwise
In two way slab why we provide extra bar how it place
Which is good ? One way slab or two way slab ?
both are good, depends on multiple factors

what if its a two way square slab, how are loads distributed?
What if the two way slab supports on only two edges? What is the case?
Supporting on two edges cause one way bending resulting in oneway slab

Sir what if the slab is supported in all 4 edges but the L/B ratio is greater than 2? Can I still classify it as one way slab?

Can't a one way slab be supported on all 4 edges
Yes. Because if you support it on four edges there will be two directional moments which makes the slab two way
@@Sulimankhanacademy so what do you mean... Can a slab having aspect ratio greater than 2 and supported on all four sides be called two way slab?
Exactly
@@Sulimankhanacademy but that's not right, when lx/ly is greater than two the slab is one way.... How can it be two way?
