It's a pretty depressing ending. At the very least I would have wanted the representative to get his own taste of dread by becoming infected himself and forced to join them aboard in exile as well
It’s not a movie, it’s an episode from a shortlived anthology series. Most of the episodes suffered because it was too derivative of The Outer Limits. Some episodes were decent though and despite some of the weak plots, there are some gems (check out the first episode which I’d say was the best of the series)
I honestly assumed I was watching something like that, but the OLDER reboot of Outer Limits was better a notch or two above this. The actors were trying, but way too cheesy overall.
That makes sense. The makeup on the telekinetic freaks in *_Beneath the Planet of the Apes_* was based on the fascia seen on cadavers, as another example of grotesque makeup being taken from IRL medical imagery.
Ugh... This TV series was tough on the eyes, with imagery we are not used to seeing regularly. This tells me something about myself that is a bit distressing since there are people like this. It is not fair how we view beauty and react to features that we find unattractive.
What you have truly failed to realize is that you are having a completely normal reaction to seeing it in real life. They are not meant to carry on or reproduce. It is why you find it unattractive.
The only issue I have is the complete nonsensical ideas of what these deformities are. Porcupine people, Lizard people, See through people, etc. If these were everyday features that could be realistic then it would be understandable, but the extravagant diversity of ideas in the deformities makes this just silly and hard to believe. Nothing to do with judging someone based on their appearance but more to do with trying to comprehend something that makes 0 sense and lacking of anything believable.

Brian Dennehy & John Hurt must have took a nice check late in their careers to appear in this show which as I posted has poor reviews. Johnathan Frakes from Star Trek directed it. "Masters of Science Fiction is an American television anthology series by the same creators as Masters of Horror. The show debuted on ABC on August 4, 2007 at 10PM for a run of four episodes. Do you GET this show has lousy review ratings and it was on an ABC anthology series in August 2007 with 6 episodes and they only showed 4? Do you understand what that means? It means the feedback was bad and the ratings must have been horrible for ABC to pull the last 2 episodes. I have never heard of that anthology series so my guess ABC pulled it. This could be a tribute to old move freaks whose move distribution was banned in some places and countries and ridiculed and stigmatized by multi-discriminatory views and violence.
YES I agree it's what is inside that counts. But do you really want to watch a TV series about such people. We can go out our daily lives and meet people like that... Look at serial killer Ted Bundy. Bundy was a charismatic man who attracted young women. Sadly unbeknownst to them their was a monster inside his body.
Maybe cutting back on the "theatrical" make-up, and ideas of "super-deformed" people, and instead concentrating on a story and plot could have saved this series. Its like trying to watch the Muppets and pretend they are real people. The believability is non-existent. Hard to follow a show that pushes agendas "the message" using such outlandish concepts of deformity that lack realism. They could have done over-the-top deformities given they all suffered the same symptoms(boils, skin melts, etc.) but instead we are faced with thousands of ideas that look fake and don't fit the narrative(porcupines, lizards, see-through, monkey-face, etc.)
That could be the problem...I see also a deeper issue that kills the spirit and presumes something in the viewer (prejudice) who must learn a moral tale why it's wrong. But the movies structure and even the characters themselves accept that premise. While there is a sense of honesty to this, it defeats the purpose taken full throttle and to boot I would say most viewers are more progressive on this issue than the writers and producers given, so its kind of pointless for its objective in addition to being incoherent at the most critical point. They really drive the realism and power of their own defeatest ideology by making the final and most intelligent mutant captain in line with that, while portraying those who sort of accept their ugliness amongst each other to the point of marriage as goofy fools. Hollywood may has this derisive way of thinking, but the best part of humanity never did or would.
This does seem like a Harlan Ellison premise yeah. He's the guy who wrote I have no mouth but ai must scream. He's gay. Probably felt like an outsider or freak alot in real life.
Why would a distopian government spend the m9 ey to transport them to the goulag in space? Doesn't make any sense financially. If you're going to write something, dont start out with an idiotic premise.
While i do like these type of movies, right up till the end where they over use the cliche the entire movie was pointless, and they are just in a worst position then when they started.
People will say whatever they think will get them what they want. When they get it and don't need you anymore... then you see their true colors.
Ellison, the guy who wrote amazing stories like “the city on the edge of forever” from Star Trek and “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream”.
