    My Spyder-faux Smock from OK just arrived and I have to admit, I was honestly shocked with the quality. The only immediately noticeable difference is the lack of a second detent on the fake, but on the other hand the action is about the same as my real one with the second detent removed. Everything else is spot on, although it's a no-brainer that the blade steel isn't M4 at that price point.
    Thanks for another great comparison video Fred!

      I picked up the OK-81, which is the PM2 style with OK branding. It's my favorite knife now, except it's too heavy to carry in my light shorts. I carry an OK-223 (PM3 copy) now. The compression lock on that one was weak, but a little bending fixed that. Now I can spine whack it all day and it doesn't fail. Not that I have a habit of spine whack knives. LOL. Just testing it. Also, the 223 doesn't have an opening for the compression lock. I dremmeled out an opening for it in a minute. Some of their knives have that opening and some don't.

      @kevinsanter2800 День назад +3

      I also have the 81 to save my PM2 from constant construction site abuse and agree, it's great knife but a bit hefty in the pocket before the day's done. So I got the Smock clone after carrying my real one on the job for a few days and found it's both lighter and shorter than a standard utility knife, but with waaaay more blade length and class. It also fits perfectly in the utility knife pockets on my work cargos and belt pouches, and again, waaaay cooler than a beat up old Stanley utility knife! 😎

      @N2EWSRadio - I got the Jade G10 / M4 blade version. Feels great, not disappointed at all. My only gripe really is that the spine and spydie hole were sharp edged. A few swipes with some fine grit sandpaper took care of that in no time..

    Hi Fred, good info as usual. I don't think OK knives makes anything, I think they just pick and choose the better clones/copies to sell. I could be wrong but that is my take on this company. I put Jufule in the same category, they pick and choose what they sell. I like you have found that not every knife they sell is designed properly. I think some of dimensional issue/engineering issues come from converting SAE units of measure to metric thus some of the clearance issues crop up from the original design. The Chinese know how to copy to a point, but they don't always understand the engineering aspect of what they are coping. I have observed that the knives that were originally produced in Taiwan ( metric units of measure ) seem to come out better when the Chinese copy it, again in metric units of measure.

    • @rebel1851
      @rebel1851 День назад +2

      You are correct sir, OK and Jufule do not make anything, they are resellers.

    • @Blueski888
      @Blueski888 День назад

      “The Chinese know how to copy to a point” LOL the Chinese are by far the best knife engineers/manufacturers. Just compare Reate/WE to Benchmade Buck etc. or anything else under $700.

    • @BladesOnABudget
      @BladesOnABudget  День назад

      Hey man. Yes, I believe you’re right about OKK not really making anything themselves. They just try to pick the better quality knives from other manufacturers. The more knives I see, the more I think there may only be a few companies making all of the clones - even good & bad versions of the same knife! And yeah, you’re probably also right about the conversions to metric. I know there are many high end Chinese manufacturers doing really impressive stuff. But the low end cloners don't have the same engineers as Reatte and WE! Good points here as usual Wayne! 👍

    I think you may have the aluminum version. There are two versions of this one, the aluminum version is well known to have the issue with the blade hitting the standoff. The TI version has the correct hardware color and does not have the issue with the blade hitting the standoff.

    The one I got from Amazon was missing a clip screw also. It was decent. I don't think the narrows is very good to begin with. I'd have to say other than that it was impressive. Weak detent. Good luck trying to buy a replacement. Benchmade wants people to send their knife in if lost. I have a half mind to send it to see if they will notice. Just say I bought thinking it was real. And I got mine free because Amazon lost track. After about 10 days after the latest delivery date u ask for refund. Got refund a couple days later. Week or so after refund the knife came. In the app it says refunded. There's no way for me to tell them. Its Amazon so I think they will survive. I order plenty from them. But I tried. Its now in pieces because I wanted to try adjust spring. Haven't put back 2gether. Might try to replace the bearrings to washers. Because I think might work cause their thinner cheaper washers. Kinda like nylon with bearings. I wonder if the ok knives version has washers or bearings. They have same cheaper bearings in the titanium buyout. Probably try swap those too. I'm about to order the titanium bailout that in customer comments say its on washers and the glass breaker is removable. Ok has some good clones. I was impressed with all 3 I got. The ad 20.5 was really nice. My ano came out perfectly

    Which of OKs Spyderco knockoffs come with D2 blades? Those would be the ones im interested in owning. 8cr13 just isnt very appealing to me.

    • @rebel1851
      @rebel1851 День назад +1

      Very doubtful any of them are D2. Some people trust what the seller tells them it is when they message them and ask. Truth is they are resellers and have no clue what the actual blade steel is. For example, the OK branded shamen which OK claimed to be real S30V was tested to be a Chinese equivelant to VG10 (which is about as good as you will get with the higher priced spyderco and benchmade clones) Look for Green Thorn, Hifinder and Vespa for much better quality clones.

    • @BladesOnABudget
      @BladesOnABudget  День назад +1

      Rebel’s comments here are mostly true. I don’t have any way of testing the steel to know for sure what it is. And he’s also correct that they may only be telling us what the manufacturer told them. I have seen a few Reddit groups where people have tested some of the knives and found them to be the real steel as advertised. You may want to do some searches in there. But that doesn’t mean all of them from any given seller are real. And also doesn’t mean the heat treat on your specific batch was done well (which is just as important as the type of steel). The AliExp sellers that Rebel listed (Green Thorn, etc.) are good vendors that have been tested over the years. Maybe that’s as close as you can get in this game to “proven”. But this is just a dark corner of the knife world where you have to accept a few risks. Or you can look for some Ganzo clones. They’re mostly “as advertised”, but won’t be branded. Sorry. 🤷‍♂️

    • @mikeborrelli193
      @mikeborrelli193 День назад

      @@BladesOnABudget I have a few Ganzo D2 flippers.. I would be more than satisfied with a PM2 compression lock in VG10. I find it odd they would go through the trouble of making such good clones with materials like Titanium and then take the time to grind the blade in 8cr13.. If they used 9cr18 or 10cr most US buyers would happily pay $35 or $40 for a Manix2, PM2, PM3, Sage, ect.. I know i certainly would.

    That design flaw is so bad, it would be funny it wasn't something you paid for. I haven't had that kind of experience with the fakes I ordered from OK (never ordered the Narrows). But I did get a fake Spyderco Sage 5 that wasn't sharpened properly. It was only sharpened on one side. But because the cheap steel is so soft, it was easy for me to sharpen it. And how I use knives, premium steel would be totally wasted on me. On the plus side, the fake Benchmade Bugout I got from them is the best fake Bugout I've ever had. I just ordered an OK branded Bugout copy. I'm curious to see if it's better than the fake one.

    Will you just answer my one big question are can you trust him to do right by its customers I have learned through the years to be very suspicious of knife companies overseas Kubey Knife company I purchased one their knife when they first came out. When I received the package I opened it immediately flipper did not work I oiled it I loosened the screws nothing email the company that same afternoon the response send us a video via email which I did . Company reply we will refund your money. That was two years ago. No refund money Kubey Knife company not to be trusted. And here is this Knife company Okay Knives I definitely doing business with them because not all of us can afford $350 - $400 knives. They are made with real Titanium scales and steel D2 that's fine as long it cuts and again thank you for the tutorial and the reviews I always look forward to them that's why I subscribe I recommend to the night community to do likewise Y'all 😊

    • @BladesOnABudget
      @BladesOnABudget  День назад

      Thanks Enrique. I’ve never had to deal with Kubey so I can’t comment on that. But I’ve had at least 3-4 different communications with OKK now & they have been responsive to everything so far. It always takes them a day or two to reply as they are still basically a Chinese company operating out of the UK. And I’ve only had this one issue with the quality of their knives (the chipped blade on this Narrows). They replied to my FB Messenger within a day & shipped out a replacement with no further questions asked, no forms to fill out, etc. Of course it takes another 10-14 days for that replacement to arrive, but that’s just part of the deal. So I’ve only ever had one issue with them, but I can’t really ask for a better response that what I got. Based on what I’ve seen so far, yes, I can comfortably recommend them.
