This past weekend I went to one of LA’s largest flea markets, the Rose Bowl Flea Market! They have it the second Sunday of every month, with over 2,000 vendors filled with of antiques, vintage clothing and local art. I had so much fun and found so many amazing vintage home décor finds! Going to flea markets and thrift stores, talking to vendors, is one great way to learn what to look for and to be able to recognize what's truly old and what's new. Unfortunately, there's so many new products that are mixed in with the old. One way to test whether a vendor is telling you the truth about an item you really like is to offer less than what they are asking. I'm an auctioneer and true vintage/antique (something that is at least 100 years old) dealer so I know some of the tricks used by sellers (such as letting new dolls or art roll around in the trunk of a car to 'age' the piece. Ha The basket, woolen spool and the ostrich are fabulous and genuinely old. Also, those prayer or desert rugs are old and great resale items. I can give you some names of wholesalers that a lot of auctioneers buy from to supplement inventory if interested.

That basket at about 4 minutes (which you bought) looks like a 'Moses bed' which is a newborn basket/bed made to hold bedding and newborn and can be dragged from room to room. I had one for my baby. Fishing baskets have covers and are more trapezoid so fish don't jump out. That's definitely a baby bed.

My cat sleeps in a little basket like this we found at a thrift store so we named him Moses :)
Yes, I was just coming to say it looks like a Moses basket, but checked comments first.
Moses basket is usually larger and wider, made from soft grasses. Your basket used to havemetal mesh lid before and it was orininally for fishes.
I would use it for pillows and a throw. So cool.
That vase resembles an African stitched gourd water pot. Nice finds!! Everything looks amazing ❤️

@@lonefox I was thinking it looks like 'its made of leather. The shape isn't organic enough to be a gourd. Leather is also used for carrying water, so maybe it is a water pot.
I need to know what it's made of! It sounds like a gourd, but the shape is wrong. The murderino in me is worried it's human skin with that stitching. But then again, any type of leather wouldn't dry that hard....right?!
I love everything you got!! That large basket I think would look so great by a big fireplace with small logs or kindling in it. And that vase from the same vendor could it be made of some kind of animal hide? Thank you so much for sharing.
Hide for sure ...when you tapped on it I could tell by the sound and the stitching was also a dead (pun intended) giveaway.

If you ever travel to Bangkok (Thailand), would love to watch you post a "Shop with me" video at the Chatuchak Market. There's a huge furniture and home decor section at Chatuchak Market. Most western home designers only end up placing the fake religious status or elephant status for the tacky "oriental theme". With your eye for good aesthetics, I would love to see how you actually incorporate the higher quality/designer styled home furnishings from Asian furniture/home decor designers to your room makeovers and interior decor visuals.
Just to note that if anyone ever buys large furniture that needs to be couriered to your home-country, there are Fedex/DHL/UPS courier counters stationed throughout the market. Thus, once you decide on the purchase, go directly to the courier counter, inform the counter person that you want to arrange for courier delivery and have the courier person go back to the shop with you. And while you and the courier person are in the shop, check that your purchased item is immediately packaged and sent over to the courier counter. This will help ensure that you don't get scammed with 'replacement' items later on if the shop handles the courier arrangements without your presence.

I love the basket, it's an interesting piece that can be styled in many ways. Thanks for taking us along on the trip to the flea market. I love going to flea markets and an fortunate to live under a mile from old the oldest running markets in my city.

OMG!! What amazing finds! I know you say that you paid up, but honestly you got UNREAL deals! Especially compared to the Midwest (I live in Indiana) where finding global items means either 1) Paying a fortune or 2) Shopping at World Market 🤦🏼♀️! Since Goodwill started increasing their online presence & raising in store prices, you would never find anything 18th century or such an amazing basket for under $100. Plus, seeing the passion others have for keeping pieces alive & loved is totally worth the price most of the time😊! If you haven’t read or seen "Memoirs of a Geisha", I would highly recommend doing so (especially reading or listening to the book). What they went (& still do) go through is absolutely fascinating & the pillow is talked about often. That is probably my favorite thing you purchased, but OMG Drew, I literally laughed SO HARD at your ostrich impersonation that I choked on my water 🤣🤣! That absolutely made my day & I really needed to laugh, so thank you! Sending everyone 🤗💜🙏🏻 for a safe, healthy, fantastic & Blessed weekend ahead!

I totally agree with you about Goodwill! Prices have definitely increased. (Have you seen the salaries of the Goodwill executives? 😱) My preference is always The Salvation Army.

Yes, the pillow ‘stool’ is an interesting piece and very beautiful. I learned about that when I read Memoirs of a Geisha, which is a fascinating book that I would highly recommend to anyone.
I really liked everything you got.
The stitched vase almost looks/sounds like leather so I would be interested if you find out anything else about it.
And that basket would look amazing next to a fireplace with some kindling in it (not super big logs that would damage it, though).

That basket has so much potential and is an amazing find!!! It could be used to create a large arrangement of fake flowers, dried natural plants or wooden items. If you create the arrangements so that they can be swapped out, it can be that one holiday or seasonally changed up item to refresh the look of your home. It can go on top of a big table, by the hearth (maybe to hold smaller kindling sticks) or inside of your fireplace doesn't work. I can see it along side a sofa to put extra throw blankets/pillows.

Yep, it’s a Senufo stool and I paid much more for mine. They’re hand-carved from one piece of wood. Great find!

Loved your video! And I love flea markets! Went to one in Paris and also Copenhagen.. Bought some amazing pipes (one of which the drug dog at the airport was very interested in! 🤣), some brass candle and oil holders, a wonderful Scandinavian patterned silver spoon, some wall plaques and a French taxi light sign. And I agree the stories behind them are a major reason for buying found objects.
