  • Pro cyclist vs bodybuilder. We know the pros can put out a lot of watts on the bike, but does that power translate to the gym? We’ve recruited lightweight climber Max Stedman (all 54kg of him!) to go head-to-head with our resident muscleman Brad in a series of strength challenges to find out just how weak cyclists really are!

      Yeah. Brad's pull-ups were total rubbish - barely half the range. For me a proper pull-up is full range - chin over the bar with a brief pause and dead hang at the bottom. Slow tempo, no kipping.

    • @ghislainbugnicourt3709
      @ghislainbugnicourt3709 11 месяцев назад

      @@inz_uzi I heard you shouldn't go all the way to the bottom, stopping with a slight angle is safer, but agreed about the chin.

    • @inz_uzi
      @inz_uzi 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ghislainbugnicourt3709 I think it's 100% safe to hang all the way down. Our ancestors lived on the trees so we should have no problems with that. Before you start pulling you need to go to active hang first - move your shoulders down. It's a good exercise in it's own. However if you are a total beginner you should be careful and do it gradually. Build your strength first.

    Well done, Max and Brad! How about cyclist vs pro dancer? I am a professional dancer in New York and have taken to cycling all around the city for everything, including rehearsals. Dancers don't have any gear telling them about power output and so forth while dancing so it's hard to quantify our athleticism. I'd love to see a local professional (in any style: modern, Sabar, breakdancing, contemporary, house, theatre/jazz, etc) come into your studios, teach a class with a long dance phrase to the always-game GCN presenters and see how they fare in terms of endurance, strength, and flexibility (and optionally, swagger). And then you can put the dancer on a bike to see how they do. Does dancing make you good at climbing? or sprinting? or time-trialing? let's find out! Love the channel - thanks for all the adventures and good fun and info!

      There's a chin-up and then there's a pull-up. Relative to Max look at how high Brad gets his chest tho.

    The sit ups were rigged. They should have just let them do as many as they could. The heavy weighted balls gave an unfair advantage to the massive body builder, of course.

    For a featherweight, Max was impressively strong 💪

    Seeing Max on the leg press was giving me anxiety. Going to full extension and locking your knees out like that is a great way to get them bending the other way.

      He wasn’t locking out completely. As a pro BB, I highly doubt he would make that mistake. He also could probably press another 20-30 kg from the looks of it.

    Given that Brad would have trained his core muscles for concentric and eccentric strength mostly for size gains (although does need isometric strength for big heavy compound lifts) and Max would have trained his core for isometric strength for stability on the bike, I'm not surprised Max aced the plank challenge.

    Cycling is interesting, I can squat 180 kg parallel at 70 bw as a powerlifter but my FTP is barely 120w as a newbie cyclist and I cannot climb any slope greater than 15%. Specialisation is key ig.

    Please be careful with those legpress, you are loading your joints with a lot more weight then they are used too. You got to be careful with your form, don't make your legs completely straight that is very dangerous

    If Hank stated Brad's correct weight (90kg, yeah right) the results are even more impressive.

    Max did really well. The gym gets a little bit harder with each banged up shoulder or collar bone from crashing.

    I think if Hank stayed with the 4kg ball, Max would have won. It would have been a long game, but that's what favored Max. Every time the weight went up, the game shifted in Brad's favor. I'm sure Oli must have already mentioned it. 👨‍🏫

    I think, the best approach for most of us (not proffesionals) will be, getting best from both worlds (aka hybrid trainig). We need to be both strong AND have endurance, not one OR another.
    Peace ✌️ and let's grow in sports

    As a former food delivery boy i knew the plank would be no issue, cyceling is training the core hard.. like i don't train core but when making deliveries was my Main source of i come i tried incline sit ups in the park and got 120 reps in in one go! All from cycling running up stairs and the ocational moving Job like once every second week.

    Many of those pull-ups and leg press were no reps. I’m a cyclist that also does body building at they gym. I don’t do as many sets at the gym anymore mateas looking forward to cycling.
