Thankyou shazroh, Remember they were in a desperate war that was not in their control. Do not be ashamed of your German background. Ultravox have captured a wonderful moment in time, that we must be glad not to have been involved. We will never forget the brave men who flew those terrifying missions in the name of freedom or...orders. Andy
When listen to this song,I leave my troubles behind and fly so free & easy for almost 5 minutes! Nothing can go wrong, I am free! After that, back to my harsh reality... I guess we create are own reality with our thought. Why can I practice what I preach? Anyway, Love this song and the scenes of High adventure! Thank you for posting..
Why oh Why is music no longer written with as much Passion and Emotion as it was in the 70's and 80's? This brings back so many fond memories of a time that was simpler.......and so much FUN!
ultravox were such a great group, somany fantastic songs and real tunes and melodies, i bought them all as I was growing up in the early 80's, take sme back to hear them all again
Many thanks for the posting Diggieins! The video was indeed, shot at Beachy Head and Birling Gap in East Sussex. Reap The Wild Wind was a hit in October 1982, and is from Ultravox's album Quartet. It was the first of four singles from that album, the others being Hymn, Visions In Blue and We Came To Dance.
I was into Ultravox like an addict along with a pile of oterh English bands for the first few years of the 80s. Not only were they great msucians, they knew how to write a song and use electronics in inventive and new ways. Midge was definitely a great singer.
In memory of those Allied airmen who gave all over the skies of England and The Continent during WWII. May they all fly straight and true all the way to Heaven.
I saw Midge last night in Kraków Poland live, unforgettable, genius, phantastic personality so sad last night is gone. I want to see you again Midge:)))
Love this song! i think Ultravox was one of the best bands of the 80s. So many awesome songs...still sounds as interesting and beautiful as ever. Great stuff!!!
Ultra Vox, Icicle Works, Joe Jackson, Talk Talk, The Police, Talking Heads, Style Council, Missing Persons. It's hillarious, I grew up mostly in the 70s and we resisted, resented & HATED new wave when it came out. Then became radical fans, loving the cutting edge music, the artists like Jackson or Talk Talk who pushed musical boundaries. Too many got caught up in how newwave looked. Push past that & it was a wildly creative period with some serious artists-look no further than Ultra Vox!
Sally, I said the same about music of 60s when I was in the midst of the 80s. Now I have an appreciation for music in relation to the era it reflects. This encompasses the 80's. New romanticism trend was what we lived and this song is indicative of that. When you have memories to make the song more dimensional, it doesn't seem so hollow.
framed a beautiful song I can remember feeling a esensia when I was 9 years and my cousin who was 14 years, I hear this song hiso for the first time that there are already 25 years Hase as time passes but still within a esensia alive forever esensia .
I agree with you 100% bright93. So, why all the thumbs down? Some people will still cheer on the Establishment no matter how many of their children are sent to die. It never seems to end.
Went to see The Monument Tour in the 80's fantastic cant wait to see them in April.I was in my 20's when this came out and I still love it and Midge Ure xx
Its fair to note that there were hero's on all sides; like it says at the end; its dedicated to everyone from everywhere who gave their all. And the aircraft from all countries were equally impressive...
Ultravox is my teenage music years, best time of my life and brilliant music. There was a fair bit of tacky rubbish back then (like any time I suppose) but these guys had a unique sound and style. Still listen to it today and will so in 20 years time. Quality stuff
The spitfire still gives me goose bumps in this video. Ultravox were the band I listened to the most in the 80s and this video and song are a great example of why. Real talent from genuine, nice blokes. 10 out of 10 for the sentiment of the video as well, I think greatly respectful of the memories of the few who gave so much for the many!!!!
This was the original video of the song. This is NOT the original song. It may look like crap now but in the 80's this was cutting edge. A great 80's song
We were fortunate enough to enjoy these songs when they were first released - so many quality bands Depeche Mode, U2, Simple Minds etc maybe we're getting old - or maybe these bands really were a bit special
Uplifting song. I was in highschool when all this great music was created. You compare it to the stuff today and it makes me feel so greatfull to have grown up during such a creative period. Midge also co-wrote "Do they Know It's Christmass Time?" another song full of memories from highschool. This Music still sounds great today.
I remember hearing this a lot on satelite 80's radio back in 2005. I used to love it when it came on. I remember rushing to the TV to see who the artist was. I like the black and white visuals in this harking back to a simpler time not like now where we have electronic/information OVERLOAD.
It really was. I have fond memories of sitting in my room with the headphones on, listening to the local rock station which had gone to a New Wave format, hoping to hear this song and others. Missing Persons, Berlin, Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls. All the classic 80s bands that made MTV what it was. Better days then these, that's for sure.
I am sure your Grandad was a great pilot. Why? He was serving his country.A big call for one so young. Bravery, and sheer luck was all these guy's knew,on both sides. I wish I knew mine.
my favorite part of the song is the synthesizer solo, still gives me the chills when i hear it. great song to listen to when your moving; driving, running, biking, whatever
....we've still got the family cassettes !!!!!!!!!!!! They're still going strong :P My parents had Ultravox, Moments (oh dear god remember the Moments collections ?! "where did you go to my lovely*... scarred for life) and The Scorpions (oh, and Abba's Arrival !).
ultravox were the coolest band on the 70s and 80s, john foxx era for me was the best the lyrics were out there like pluto. however you cannot discount ultravox at band aid where they were second only to queen. ill be going to see them in 09 with luck
@busterskin1967 At the end of the day Ultravox are Classical musicians with words added!!… that’s why they get better with age…that’s why they never sound dated!! THE GODS!!!!

Midge...you legend ! I love this song. Romance and flying ...ah.... you can't beat this stuff. :-)
Why oh Why is music no longer written with as much Passion and Emotion as it was in the 70's and 80's?
This brings back so many fond memories of a time that was simpler.......and so much FUN!
25 years after, I still love this song. happy to find it !
40 years after now, my how the time flies!
@@funtimes8296 incredible to read your answer... after 15 years ! I had forgotten my post... time goes so fast !

So awesome that Ultravox and Midge Ure are still touring and have Facebook pages. They still sound great. :D
This song/video will have a permanent place in my heart, one that reminds me of happier times.
Many thanks for the posting Diggieins! The video was indeed, shot at Beachy Head and Birling Gap in East Sussex.

I wonder if the guys from the band no how much song has touched so many people. It will always put a smile on my face when I listen to it.
NONE of the popular music of today comes anywhere close to this quality. NONE.
I wasn't born until 12 years AFTER this came out. Imagine my problems of missing this entire decade...
In memory of those Allied airmen who gave all over the skies of England and The Continent during WWII. May they all fly straight and true all the way to Heaven.
still one of my all time fave songs
Jeden z najlepszych zespołów wszechczasów.Tamte lata to najlepsza muzyka, jaka istnieje.Pozzdrawiam wszystkich fanów new romantic.
ALL HAIL THE RAF!
Hats off to Ultravox for doing a tribute when it wasn't so fashionable to do so.
I saw Midge last night in Kraków Poland live, unforgettable, genius, phantastic personality so sad last night is gone. I want to see you again Midge:)))
Love this, part of my youth growing up in LA in the 80's.
Where in LA? Grew up in Long Beach.
am a 90s boy but theres nothing that can beat ultravox its like a new generation for me lol
i saw Ultravox when they came to Genoa in sept 1984. they music is so smart, clean, fluid, relaxing, energic, regular...
An 80's new wave little gem...
Una joyita de la New Wave de los 80's...

A teen-age favorite when released. An old friend today. Greetings, old friend. Cheers to you. All the best. Until our time ends. Love.
Great find. This is my all time favorite song and I had never seen the video.

Ultravox! I love this band. Great video. Thanks for sharing it.
I spent hours listening to WLIR back in the early 80s. Thanks for sharing.
I listen Ultravox every day I go to work!

great a mix of the song i have not heard before , top notch !
Reviewing all of my favorite 1980's bands on RUclips, this is quite fun. This is quite a song. They don't make songs like this anymore!
There was a show in Canada on City TV, the NEW MUSIC and I will always remember when they highlighted Ultravox. This is a true classic.
I can't believe it's been thirty years!
I forgot I had this album!! I wonder if it's still in my parents' basement... The early 80's was a great era to be young.
I can`t fly in the sky, when i hear this super synthesizer band
Midge Ure elegant voices !
Wow-I totally remember this video when MTV played it! Jeeze-Now I feel so old...
Great song, though!!!!

Son geniales, gracias por esta linda cancion.
the 80,s summed up ...B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T.
What an awesome, groovy bassline
I am sure your Grandad was a great pilot.
Why? He was serving his country.A big call for one so young. Bravery, and sheer luck was all these guy's knew,on both sides. I wish I knew mine.
Ultravox's Reap The Wild Wind was written in 1982. New Order's Touched By The Hand Of God was written in 1987 - who's ripping who off?!
The video is a fine tribute to the brave people who saved our world from fascism.
A good video for tomorrow's Memorial Day
bands like ths don't exist anymore.
One of my favorite songs
@TheSandsie13 -
My grandfather was one of those men. Very proud of what he did and will always be remembered.
my favorite part of the song is the synthesizer solo, still gives me the chills when i hear it. great song to listen to when your moving; driving, running, biking, whatever
Exactly the same, saw the monument tour and now can't wait for the April gigs :-)

JUST ANOTHER GREAT 80'S MAGIC MUSIC MOMENT.......
This is the first video I ever saw on MTV
love ultravox, still sounds like theres a mini casio in there somewhere
I'm sure there was (:
@busterskin1967 At the end of the day Ultravox are Classical musicians with words added!!… that’s why they get better with age…that’s why they never sound dated!! THE GODS!!!!
Midge joined the Rich Kids in October 1977 and then moved on to join Visage in 1978 amongst other bands.
sonido inconfundible que me traslada a otra época
Quality music on a high scale !
one of the best ♥
Album version begins with the drum machine shaker pattern and drops right into the chorus for a round before the vocals join in. It's what they'd play on the radio in Detroit back then. Rather different, and much fatter sounding. I prefer it to this version, although in the end this is undoubtedly one of the great, cinematic records of the 80's, if not of the pop era generally!
Love this one!
Precioso tema.
This reminds me of Mtv in the early 80s and my dad stealing the neighbor's cable.
i need a time machine to go back to a time before rap was popular
we got hella stations in the bay area that play 80s but the college stations play dance remixes of these and they usually sound pretty knarly
i actually don't like 80s stuff, but this is one of the best melodies ever. midge ure was that genius
@sweiland75 ...good song...good times from my high school days....along with Dancing with Tears in My Eyes.
Who can remember the group he was in before ultravox??? .... SLIK... still remember them lol showing my age ...lmao
A different shadow on the wall.
A stranglehold on a certain feeling.
