Those two wins over Montreal in the 70-71 semifinals were the first time a Western division club got a playoff win over an Eastern club. The North Stars were also the reason why the playoff format was changed from 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4 to 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 because Minnesota was suspected of tanking to drop into 4th place where they wouldn't have to face the Black Hawks. They lost their last 4 games, two of them to expansion teams Buffalo and Vancouver and another to the last-place Golden Seals.
Great presentation. I was a Seals and Rangers fan living on Long Island and I always looked forward to the few times each year where the CBS Game of the Week would feature a Western division expansion club. Minnesota, St Louis, Philly, Pittsburgh and later Buffalo were usually good for one appearance per season.
Habs fan here; watched my Habs faithfully from 1974 on… Bobby Smith and Steve Payne saved the Minnesota franchise. The North Stars became an exciting team to follow! They were a great team with great fans. The team left with one of the best players of all time - Mike Modano - It was sad to see them go. This new Forest/Wild team doesn’t have the same feel as the late 70’s/ 80’s North Stars !
My God, where did you find all those old clips and newspaper shots? And what a treat to see all those player photos with the 70s hockey hair and porn-star 'staches! 😅🤣😂 I totally recognize my old HS hockey hairdo in those dudes!
I’m a Rangers fan but I found this to be meticulously researched and very well put together. We had the Stars farm club in New Haven CT (Nighthawks ) from 72-76 or so. Some of these draft picks mentioned in this played in New Haven. The Nighthawks were an AHL team that was a joint farm club for the Stars and the New York Islanders in the early days.
I worked in the Stars exec suites that final season. What a gas to be there after listening to Al Shaver's voice going in and out in scratchy radio broadcasts growing up in frosty North Dakota. What a tragedy when they left. But the best part of that experience was getting to play pickup hockey on the arena ice at noontime! Norm Green sux for all time... 🖕
THIS is my Minnesota NHL hockey team! I was in my Junior and Senior years of school in Bloomington and was their from the start! Hail Cesare and the Gump!
RUclips thinks im from Minnesota for some reason but I don't mind. Muckler coached the north Stars? Him and my dad knew each other pretty good as kids. Canada was a small-town back then , im sure Minnesota felt the same way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! Just curious though...where did you get the game clips from? You wouldn't happen to have and full games from back then, would you? I'd pay good money for any and all games between the Stars and St. Louis prior to 1977.
First off, it's the Carlson brothers, not the Carson brothers, and secondly even if that wasn't common knowledge amongst anyone that has watched hockey for more than 5 minutes, he kinda mentioned it in the documentary. But thanks for the heads up.
This stuff is priceless! Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching.
You should all be proud of how well this is produced
Thank you. Appreciate that anyone watches them.

Stay tuned. Part 3 about the 80's is releasing in the next day or two here.
@@danwhenesota2646 what timing! Amazing! I look forward!
I would like to see the Wild use the Green and Gold uniforms as their regular sets.
@@bearforce187 For the 2024-25 season it looks like that is not happening

Nice job, well done! I was a big Saint's fan back in the day.
Thank you. Im working on a book about the full history of the Fighting Saints. Stay tuned.
@@danwhenesota2646 Very cool, I look forward to reading it! I wrote a book with former Polar/Gopher/Saint Frank Sanders. He had some great stories!
1971-72 and 1972-73 were great seasons

thanks for watching. I got the majority of the clips from someone's private collection and do not have permission to share them.
The SLAP SHOT 1:05:36 HANSEN BROTHER'S Jeff Steve Jack Carlson
They got Gump Worsley toward the end of the 1969-70 season, that helped them just barely get into the playoffs
The Carson Brothers are also known as the hockey's Hanson Brothers of the Charleston Cheifs. The Slap shot movies.
thank you for watching. Ha ha!!!

The North Stars didn't have a problem with attendance in the early 70s, 15,000 and some for every game
Goldy Goldthorpe , AKA Ogie Oglethorpe , from Slapshot , for whom the character is based .
Puck Bunny alert at 34:18
The 2 nd season wasn't as good as the first, they missed the playoffs
