So full disclosure, Jack. When I bought my ignition kits they did not have the Prodigy option so I’m using the stock leaf springs. I did polish and deburr the edges to make them nice and they’ve worked great. Plus I didn’t have to tweak the spring. Also, the kits I’m using run the 19lb mainsprings. I have 10214 and 10216. The kit for the 17 has a bright hammer. Just mentioning in case you did not see that it isn’t blued. Nothing wrong with that. Just the color. The 17 should work just fine. Now depending on the gun, ammo, and whatever random stuff, if you start getting light primer strikes you may want to look at a couple of options. 1- change the firing spring to the Wolff Extra Power firing spring. Might be worth doing anyway but up to you. 2- you can change the mainspring to a 19lb so the hammer hits harder. Keep in mind that sometimes a gun needs to be tuned to what you want and how you want to run it. Like a mystery, sometimes it’s easy to solve and sometimes you have to really work at it. But I think it’s fun and cool to learn. Hope that helps!
@@nobodytraining good thing I asked you.. I didn’t realize the bright Hammer for the 17” lbs. I going with the 19 inch lbs and black hummer.. totally agree with you m, This is fun.
Well I’m glad that I did! Almost didn’t. Buy the 19 kit but grab a 17 spring also. Do some experimenting with the recoil impulse and see which one feels better to you. I like how the 19 mainsprings and 10lb recoil spring feels in my 5”. Running 19 & 12.5 in my 4.25”. Plenty of people are running 12lb recoils in their 5”. You are getting down into the weeds. Might as well as count the grasshoppers 🤣
I have the 4.25 inch Prodigy myself, I put the exact same EGW parts in mine, I did stone the seer from EGW, gently, and I have to say mine is now named BUTTER, because thats how smooth it is. I am currently waiting on a pair of Staccato mags, and a new set of springs for the factory Duramags because the factory springs have already stopped holding the slide ope after last round, so hopefully the Dawson Precision springsI have will help that issue. Keep up the good work. Ill be checking in to see what else you have done.
Thanks for watching and the comment, Thomas! Quick question: do you have a jig for the sear or are you an old pro? If you have a jig, which one? Curious minds want to know.
I have been down the 1911 upgrade path a number of times. Just finishing up a 9mm Garrison. 12.5 recoil spring, 19 lb. on the hammer and a lighter firing pin return spring. EGW sear and ligjter sear spring. Extensive deburring on the frame and a new Wilson wide U notch rear sight that works fine with the stock front which is .180" high iirc. Got an Ed Brown tritium front site coming that is the same width and height as the stocker. The trigger is pretty good now, only way to improve it further would be with a jig and some Norton stones.
Just finished my latest build a rock island standard GI variant that was a given to me by a friend. I gutted the entire thing and replaced everything with Wilson and Ed brown parts only thing that’s stock is the grip safety I cut down to a rat tail for a retro look. I’m planning on having the slide dove tailed.
I’ve talked to several who are increasing the spring weight and there are a couple different reasons. First is that they are overcoming an issue with their prodigy and adding extra muscle to get the job done. This is done instead of tuning/polishing whatever certain trouble spots in the hope that it will self adjust with round count. Second reason is for increased reliability. Usually if it’s going to be a pistol you’ll depend on an heavier spring is added insurance. Helps it run more reliably with hard us. The Prodigy is basically an entry level race gun. My opinion. But it was design and tested with the help of a well known competitive shooter. Ultimately you have to decide based on what you are doing with it. It can be tuned to your needs/ammo. In my 5” I’m running a 10lb recoil and 19lb main spring. I’m toying with the idea of dropping to a 17 main. We will see. On the 4.25, I just tested ammo with the factory 12lb recoil spring and there are areas of the gun that need some tuning before I change springs. But that being said I have a 12 1/2, 13, and 14lb recoil springs ready to go. I will change the 12 if I determine a need for it. Hope that helps. If not, keep asking questions. I’ll do what I can!

Granted I still have a lot more to learn. If I would have bought a Staccato I would have just got a great shooting platform and none of the knowledge. So you are watching me pay for my education 🤣
EGW is a good company and other companies get stuff from them. The parts that EGW sell are machined and not MIM (metal injection molded) and are therefor better tolerances. The Prodigy uses MIM internals. Most seem to change the hammer/sear/disconnector. Better trigger pull and can be stronger parts. I started off brand new as well back in September (to the 1911/2011). Just takes a little bit of research
Believe it or not, no. I’ve learned a lot of new things because of it. If I would have bought a Staccato I would have had a perfect experience with no knowledge gained.
I tried the colt gov 5” model 7378 which when you use the Holster Finder function you can search for then Prodigy. It fits the gun just fine. It’s not an upper end holster and you’ll see what I mean if you get one. What I didn’t like about it was that the release puts my thumb under the safety when I draw. I’m trying to rework the holster to see if I can fix that but I’m not 100% on it.
@@thatguyoverthere2288 It will work for the Prodigy but you have to get over the safety thing. It could be trained to compensate for but not for me. Holsters for the Prodigy are tough to find. RDR gear is modifying Safariland duty holsters to fit the Prodigy but they are pricey
Got the Tier 1 holster in this weekend. It rubs a little towards the tip of the slide but aside from that, it fits well. I don’t think it’s worth their asking price though. If I found the Safariland version sooner, I would’ve probably went with that. The big selling point was the black camo finish Tier 1 offered over T Rex’s Ragnarok, and the level 2 safety. Still haven’t had time to see if I like the 12# recoil spring yet. Appreciate your updates though, Nobody. Let me know if you come across anyone else out there with an extended slide lock lever. Seems like 10-8 has a handle on the parts for this so far.
The problem with holsters is that you don’t know if you’ll like them. Then you spend whatever dollar amount to find it doesn’t work for you. There really needs to be a try before you buy option. There…someone run with that and make dozens of dollars! 🤣

The Prodigy was designed to take most 1911 parts with fire control and safeties among those. I’m going to try the wide safety. My thought is that I can get more meat on it and maybe better leverage. I’m not not an expert on these things so take that with a grain of salt. Also, depending on holster design, the wide safety may or may not work. Just an fyi. Thanks for watching, AM! Let me know what route you end up going!
I think I’d actually try another 12lb just in case the one that came from the factory was defective. If you are planning on tuning with recoil spring just grab a 13 and 14 as well. You can also adjust with the main spring. I’ve seen 2 different numbers on what the Prodigy mainspring is weighted at. 20 and 25lbs. I think it’s 20. So maybe look a couple pounds above that. You could tune between the 2 springs to get the throw that you want.
@@nobodytraining I put in the new Wolff 12 lb and still had a couple of times the slide needed a bump to close. Put in the 13 lb Wolff and it ran fine.
@@dvcer11boo8 Cool beans! So the 13 is getting past whatever is catching the round or slowing down the slide. If not, look into doing that. Smoothed out feeding for me
Hey Tony- this is usually a part that can require fitting a little because the shaft diameter is a true .200. The Springfield one is a couple thou smaller. But it’s easy to do so don’t worry! You will need some Flitz, Jb bore paste or another mild abrasive. You’ll put that stuff on the barrel legs where the pin rides along with the barrel link along with a little lube oil. You’ll work the slide back and forth and wear it in. It will be tough at first because that slide won’t want to move. I can’t remember which video I did but it shows me racking the slide against my wood workbench, catching it with the rear sights. Make sure your sight screws are tight fyi lol. You’ll do this, clean it, check to see if you can move the slide, reapply the Flitz or whatever and keep going till it’s smooth. If I remember I’ll tell you which video it was. Let me know if you have any questions!

The Prodigy uses MIM internals. Most seem to change the hammer/sear/disconnector. Better trigger pull and can be stronger parts.
I started off brand new as well back in September (to the 1911/2011). Just takes a little bit of research
@@nobodytraining thank you very much this help.
No problem! It’s my good deed for the day. 😉
Are you wishing you had just bought a stacato ?
Believe it or not, no. I’ve learned a lot of new things because of it. If I would have bought a Staccato I would have had a perfect experience with no knowledge gained.
Can you supply a list of part numbers for the 5"
Just for you MrTNT233. But I hid it up at the top of the comments so everyone could find it easier. Thanks for watching the vids!
For the safariland holster what model gun did you pick for it to work?
I tried the colt gov 5” model 7378 which when you use the Holster Finder function you can search for then Prodigy. It fits the gun just fine. It’s not an upper end holster and you’ll see what I mean if you get one. What I didn’t like about it was that the release puts my thumb under the safety when I draw. I’m trying to rework the holster to see if I can fix that but I’m not 100% on it.
Ok. I'm looking for a holster for my 2011 style. I train with the als so it's good to keep the same movements.

@@nobodytraining ruclips.net/video/bAZ8zaCoTwA/видео.html is this a reference to you, perhaps?
@@matthewvolpe7515 I did see his vid. He is spot on about positive and negative people!! And for those who don’t want to work on the gun themselves or who are worried about warranties they should 100% send it back. I can’t disagree at all. But I’m a nerd and can’t leave stuff alone because I like to ruin my warranty and you can bet your little red wagon that I paid attention to the list 😉. Thanks for looking out for me!
@@nobodytraining here’s the catch. I sent mine back to SA and “tinkered” myself. I’m like you, I like to remedy issues on my own, as long as they’re within my realm. I got you covered, lol.
@@matthewvolpe7515 I always figure that whatever I mess with I have to be comfortable with the idea of buying a new one. The value of learning is more important to me. It will be really interesting to see what they say about yours.
Is there a specific model for the WC safety?
The Prodigy was designed to take most 1911 parts with fire control and safeties among those. I’m going to try the wide safety. My thought is that I can get more meat on it and maybe better leverage. I’m not not an expert on these things so take that with a grain of salt. Also, depending on holster design, the wide safety may or may not work. Just an fyi. Thanks for watching, AM! Let me know what route you end up going!
What weight recoil spring do you recommend for the 4.25? I’m launching brass about 18’ with the stock spring/factory 115 gr ammo.
Thanks man. I have the 12,13 and 14 lb coming.
@@dvcer11boo8 no problem. Let me know what the fix ends up being in case others run into the same problem
Have you polished the top of the chamber where the bullet nose makes contact or the top of the ramp where the bevel is (case can catch here)? I can’t remember if I already asked you about that. If not, look into doing that. Smoothed out feeding for me
Did your 10-8 slide stop work or did you have to modify it. Mine is not drop in ready.
