I think that Augusta National officials probably realize that they are the only remaining venue that will allow all the top players from both tours to compete. It only adds to the mystique and exclusivity of Augusta National and The Masters golf tournament.
I think you have it backwards. I believe the masters restated their rules and goals and said “nothing has changed” they still invite the best players, past winners, etc. they did not change a rule to allow LIV players. Your premise is wrong.
IMO, the only people shocked by this are PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and his Board. They would have liked to exclude the LIV players and cancel them from any established golf tournament. But, sometimes I reconsider this. What if this is a tactic to simply build up the rivalry and then have a multi day Ryder Cup-like tournament between the PGAT and the LIV? There would be much money to be made and both domestic and foreign TV ratings would be sky high. Just a thought...

The PGA should never have started banning players who decided to join LIV. Who are they to tell people where they have to work. Incidentally the people who are calling on the Masters to exclude LIV players because of the World Trade Center Attacks calling what Saudis are paying '"Blood Money" need to look at at all of the sponsors who donate money to the PGA so that they can fund their tournaments and charities. These sponsors do business with the Saudis all of the time. The PGA is so hypocritical. It is so refreshing to see the 4 Major Tournaments so far are not allowing the PGA to dictate what they do and how they run their tournaments. Personally the only golf tournaments I watch anymore are the 4 Majors in which the PGA has no control over and LIV Golf. Long "LIV" Golf!!!!! :)

If the four majors don’t allow the best LIV players in then their tournament then it will need an asterisk for not representing the best champions in golf.Some of the pga events are unwatchable due to the weakness of the field.

Their qualifications are there for golfers to find a path to obtain an INVITATION. There are LIV golfers who meet those qualifications and therefore are INVITED. The Masters proved they won't be strong armed by the PGA. FYI the US Open is sanctioned by the USGA. The British Open is sanctioned by the RNA. Only the PGA can keep the LIV players out. I expect that the RNA may not allow them however if the Masters proves inviting them makes for must see TV they might change their mind...US Open as well.
