@anthonybernero9720 Hey Anthony! Thanks for your interest. In short, triggering envokes a vivid memory and/or feeling that is just as intense as the day it happened. It's a useful term that can apply to many situations, both serious or silly. In the case of my experience with the GI Joe game, it's the latter. Because I'm playfully referring to how it evoked memories of rage and frustration. However, in serious situations, a triggering event can cause genuine distress. Such as reliving severe emotional or physical trauma. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, there are lots of resources available, but I wouldn't suggest asking RUclips commenters for answers, because between you and me, there are a lot trolls out there.
There was an Atari 2600 game, too. G.I. Joe, Cobra Attack. And they took the name literally because you had to fight a giant snake, rather than any of Cobra Commander's forces. Seems like it was made by someone who only had third hand knowledge of the franchise.
Oh yeah, Cobra Strike. Although at least they said it was a robotic giant cobra rather than a real live giant cobra. Although with Cobra Commander being mutated into an actual snake, by the snakey-hybrid Cobra-La people in the 1987 animated movie, a giant snake doesn't seem that wacky. At least in the cartoon continuity. Yeah, not as good as the first but I still enjoy it. It does feel a bit rushed as you say, perhaps because even when the first game was out in 1991, GI Joe had decreased in popularity a great deal, so in 1992 it's really dying off so perhaps the devs had to just get it done and released. The Marvel Comic ended at end of 1994 but yeah, sales weren't great by that point. Also I'd forgotten how 'snowy' Ninja Force Storm Shadow looked. I like it though. :)
There is one big catch to that. There are 6 you can send to a stage (up to 3 at a time). If any die, and you have Spirit and a radio, you can revive them in that stage. Hey, thanks for this review! G.I.Joe Atlantis Factor was my first videogame EVER. I was 6 years old when I received in my smol hands my first Famicom. And it came with this cartridge. I played it for years. My child imagination ran so wild with this one! Difficulty was so rough and confusing sometimes (puzzles were so hard for me back then). I'm not sure it's "the best first game you can ever have" but I have to admit that I ended up loving this game not for what it was really meant for (to be a game for the animated TV series named GIJoe whose existance I ignored for years cause GIJoe series never arrived to latam I guess) but for all the sensations it generated in me and all the elementary-school conversations that it made me start back then with friends and all. Many years later, me being already a young adult and with assistance of emulators, I "beated" this game for the sake of it, but I would love to actually beat it the good way. I have to mention, English is not my native language, so that factor also added to my lack of understanding when I played GIJoe 2 as a child, haha. I need to do a remake of at least some stages of these GIJoe games (I'm a software developer)... It's a pending assignment for me. Wonderful review of yours, it turned out to too short for me! :) I really enjoyed it hearing your actual thoughts and oppinions about this game and not limiting yourself to only tell us how to beat it. I think what happened with you and what happens with a lot of people who play GI Joe 1 first is that you come into it's sequel Atlantis Factor trying rush through the game guns blazing when that was never it's intention. It's more of an exploration game this time around hence the password system and multi-route levels similar to Clash At Demonhead. You have the freedom to go anywhere but with certain Joes you rescue can get into places the others cannot to find hidden POWs and resources. That's the reason they made enemy pickups tricky to get as to discourage you from shortcut leveling up and to explore the game. The reason Snake Eyes starts with low health is because he's the best Joe in the game once he's powered up and the smart thing is to save those life upgrades to give to him. Also, I never power up everybody's Melee all the way and stop at Level 3 or enough for them to do flying kicks. With Shadow or Snake Eyes that's when I max out the Melee.
Enjoyable game, but not nearly as good as the first one. I never got past the Cobra laboratory part because I couldn't figure out where to go or what to do. 5:38 - That's an Atari-level graphic effect. Graphics were still decent in this game, but I always thought they were a noticeable downgrade from the first one. 6:23 - They just recycled his sprite from the first one, even though he's obviously wearing an updated outfit in the cutscene.
Cool. I _knew_ something was up with this one when I first tried it via emulator consoles and got pretty much instantly annoyed by the stupid bouncing power-ups. Glad to know I was not alone, lol! I love me some action-platformers, but I think I'll keep ignoring this one - besides, the music, multiple characters and map screen just remind me of Captain America and the Avengers for NES, and that game is definitely better, so whenever I look at this, I'll probably just end up playing GI Joe 1 or Captain America again. Btw, I know you love character switching in NES games - have you ever played Cocoron for the platform? I feel like it's probably a Japan-only game originally, but I've played it on emulator consoles where it's been appearing pretty regularly for well over a decade, so if it is Japan-only, it must've been fan-patched forever ago and just exists alongside NES games like no big deal. Anyhoo, it's a Mega Man-esque action-sidescroller type thing that not only features multiple playable characters, but MAKE your OWN characters out of head, torso and leg parts. I think you might find it pretty enjoyable.
I played the 2nd one way back in 1994. I got it used at a yard sale for 5 dollars with a few other titles (solstice was one of them) I actually like this one more, and Pat the NES Punk gave me shit for it 😅
I bought a copy this game back in 1993 for $10 from Phar-Mor around the time when that chain of stores was involved in a scandal and I enjoyed it. I honestly thought Capcom developed this game but that wasn't the case it was fun nonetheless. I knew about the first GI JOE game on NES but I didn't really play that one for the first time until sometime last year and I loved that one too. I'll bet the original developer of these two games would've made a decent Transformers game for the NES far superior to the ones on the Famicom if they had the opportunity to do so.
I played it as a kid, I loved the game. It has ton of features that where very uncommon for a NES game. It may not be the best action game in the catalog, but I don't know if I agree with most people saying that the original is superior (the boss fights are, that's for sure). And most saying that reusing assets like sprites, etc. Is cheap, I don't see anyone criticizing an action franchise with 6 titles that not only reuses the main char sprite, but also most mechanics, improving one or two things per title.
Those boss fights & basically same rooms kinda remind me of boss fights in Mega Man where you go into the single square room often with nothing or a few platforms. Not bad but kinda repeats the scenario
I checked this shit out, and I liked it! Never cared for g.i. Joe though. But I'll be damned if these graphics aren't just some of the best on the NES. Smeizole!!
Always wanted to try this one, but the prevailing consensus made the price tag not seem worthwhile…especially since I already have the first game. Interesting nevertheless
G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor has the absolute worst and most convoluted password system EVER! Fourteen Tic Tac Toe boards with one alpha numeric digit placement in some, most, or all of the boards!
@@BigOleWords Imagine writing down a password for Faxanadu. Now imagine writing down a password for G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor. Especially since we didn’t have smartphones or iPhones back then. Using a camera to take a picture of a password was considered a waste of a picture, unless you were very rich. I hope that helps with the average mindset back in that day. 🙂
This is easily one of the best games on the NES. Great artwork, great gameplay, great music. Don't let any of these weird complaints stop you from picking it up. Its well worth it.
I remember renting this one after liking the original. don't remember much about it outside from the most absurd password system I've ever seen in a videogame. definitely was not feeling it as much as the first game.

i really doubt no one played this game, it is awesome and was well talked about , anw, i do get the point, but it is indeed a G I JOE game and even i, a kid from a third world country had it as a kid. but i need to say, forget everything, THE MUSIC OF THE FIRST LEVEL, that is a banger, i keep humming it to myself all the time. This game along with so many other games, especially KICK MASTER are some of the most most gorgeous nes games, KID really knew how to make a stylish game. and yes, i love this much more than the first, by a country mile. easily in my top 10 nes games, along with KICKMASTER, SHATER HAND, SWORD MASTER and so many other good NES games that most people don't even mention .
@@Gatorade69 i still remember one day finishing my computer class in summer, stopped by the games store, found shatter hand, took it home, when i went inside my area, my little brother was at the window in the 7th floor , i held the game (kick master) up high to show him and he yelled '' HEY...KCIKMASTER'' ... the joy of being a kid in the 90s with a new game.
@@EpicLebaneseNerd Wish I had come across those games. Most of my games were used as I had a NES until much later so it was always a crapshoot if the game would be good or not. @@BigOleWords yes my friend, back then, it was only USA nes games available, so the same games sold in the USA were sold here, every single game u reviewed like KICK MASTER and these games, were exactly the same games with the boxes that we had, even ULTRA GAMES were avaibale here, AND NOT PALCOM , even on snes, we had the same censored TMNT TF game like everyone else, also explains why they were so expensive, i paid 110 dollars for it...imported. and btw, thank u for asking, ur a great guy.
How many direct sequels that immediately follow the ending of the previous game were there on the NES? It's very interesting that this one takes place immediately after the previous game, not just a second game but literally a continuation
@@BigOleWords I did beat the first one on the actual cartridge, and rented this one a few times back when rental stores still existed. I guess I was too lame for the Atlantis Factor.
My fav team was s.shadow, roadblock, and duke. They were essentially my warrior, tank, and mage respectively. I used to spam s.shadws projectile by tapping crouch and attack repeatedly. When i found one of the power sources that the game mentions, id let duke get it and it fully upgraded his weapons. Since duke can aim upwards, he'd make short work of cobra commander
i remeber playing the first Gi Joe American Hero. Walking home after school on fridays i'd rent games from the local grocery store. (they had a rental section) i played most nes and SNES games this way. I rent a game , then beat it over the weekend and return it on monday. Then rent another and another. It was a n awesome way to play tons of games on the cheap.. It was also like a demo trial too. If i like the game , id end up buying it. If not , no big deal , only out 2 bucks instead of 60. PLaying RPGs was a bitch though . the save was on the catridge that you returned. SO the chance of it being there the next time you rented it was nil. That was more of a trial to see if you wanted to buy it , like FFvi or 3 . Depending on your versions.
fine be pedantic. roadblock looks NOTHING like rockandroll. statement still stands on all counts but claim victory on technicality USA! USA! @@BigOleWords
This is pretty advance for an NES game, bein able to switch between different playable characters. This reminds me of a much better version of Konami's Contra Force.
So, I had Atlantis Factor, but not the first game, so I played it more (I have both now). I pretty much agree with yoru assessment. The thing to do here is just concentrate on leveling Hawk, then whoever your second guy is, and just keep using them. Once you get them maxed up, they are pretty strong, though the game is still tough.
I had fun beating real American hero. I got rocked a good number of times until I figured the key to beating the game is powering up snake eyes weapons and life bar, fully as his projectile weapon does not use ammo. Once you do that its easy to get through the stages and power every one else up.
@BigOleWords oh, this isn't a real fact. I'm just saying inane stuff on your videos to boost in the algorithm. The projectile just reminded me of a Sonic Bewm
Your vids are always fun & nostalgic. Make me smile. My girlfriend of 2 years dumped me yesterday. But I kinda saw it coming months ago. However I was a bit bummed & about to go to bed looking for 1 last short vid. Found yours so feeling better now so can sleep. Thanks for you being you Sir!
The GI Joe games are ones I only barely played back in the day to say I played them. HAHA I didn't have the patience to really try all that hard but they did look cool, especially with all the playable characters they had. Very nice!
Rest in peace the days when there was a new video every Tuesday morning. Now we get it when we get it I guess. Long live SNES drunk. watched his new video this morning. And it was awesome!
Loved these games! I went an a church retreat and a friend and I brought a NES and rented both GI Joe games and played them any time we were to stay in our rooms. 🤣😂
This is a cool game with nice production value and seemingly quite a bit of effort behind it, but it's definitely less than the sum of its parts and feels like it's regressed in terms of design compared to the first one. I feel like most everything annoying and bad about RAH was made worse in TAF. I really wanted to like it as much as the first game and initially thought I was missing something, but it seems like it really is just worse in many regards. Too bad.
I was happy when I played this game and saw that they put Big Bear in it. In the comics Big Bear had a side kick named the Tiblisi Twink. The Tiblisi Twink had a leathal confetti cannon that always reminded me of Rip Taylor.
There was a bug with snake eyes in this game. As long as you got 1 of each power up and used a pw, it would always max out his stats (at least on the cart I played on).
@@BigOleWords I do think that the dream GI Joe NES game would have been made by Konami in 1988 with run and gun elements of Contra and vehicle elements like Jackal. The action figure line hadn’t quite gone off the rails by the point, there were tons of great figures, vehicles and play-sets in 87 to draw on. Konami did do a great GI Joe arcade game that sadly never found it’s way home
Agree with most of the criticisms said here and also with it being a good game but the original was better -- but man did this game have perhaps the WORST password system I could fathom, with the letters and the cubed blocks in certain places. Absolute dogshit 🤣

Larry Hama, who wrote the GI Joe comic, didn't like the fact that the only Asian character at the time was a villain. He wrote Storm Shadow as a sympathetic character who only joined Cobra to find out who murdered his uncle. He eventually joined the Joes. He gets brainwashed later and joins Cobra again, but he is essentially a hero. This transferred over the the toyline where v2 and v3 of Storm Shadow were Joes, not Cobra.

And no I have not played Cocoron although you are not the first to recommend it. Soon though!
I played the 2nd one way back in 1994. I got it used at a yard sale for 5 dollars with a few other titles (solstice was one of them) I actually like this one more, and Pat the NES Punk gave me shit for it 😅
That's a solid deal. Also Solstice rules!
What was the scandal? I'm not familiar with that chain.
Hahaha well yeah it’s certainly not the only game to reuse sprites or game engines. I personally prefer Real American, but they’re both solid.
Those boss fights & basically same rooms kinda remind me of boss fights in Mega Man where you go into the single square room often with nothing or a few platforms. Not bad but kinda repeats the scenario
Y’know they are very Mega Manesque!
It’s crazy I never got to play neither game I could have got them when I was a kid but I always chose another game 🤷🏿♂️ lol
They’re both pretty impressive, but I too had no idea as a kid
I checked this shit out, and I liked it!
Never cared for g.i. Joe though.
But I'll be damned if these graphics aren't just some of the best on the NES.
Smeizole!!
Yeah I was never much for Joe over TMNT
Seeing Wetsuit scale a snow covered mountain in flippers is just too much.
It makes it all the more impressive!
Always wanted to try this one, but the prevailing consensus made the price tag not seem worthwhile…especially since I already have the first game. Interesting nevertheless
Y’know i looked them up and I guess Real American is even pricier!
G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor has the absolute worst and most convoluted password system EVER!
Fourteen Tic Tac Toe boards with one alpha numeric digit placement in some, most, or all of the boards!
It’s rough, but I don’t know I feel like Faxanadu is more annoying :)
Not a popular opinion, but I’ll trade snake eyes for storm shadow any day of the week
As long as you power up his life bar
This is easily one of the best games on the NES. Great artwork, great gameplay, great music. Don't let any of these weird complaints stop you from picking it up. Its well worth it.
To each their own I suppose! I definitely don’t think it’s a bad game at all, but I think the first Joe title is better.
I agree with you 100%. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite games for the NES. I used to play this game every day back in 1992 and 1993.
The first is kind of an NES classic, this one....I doubt it was very popular.
Yeah just based on its release date I doubt it
Looks like some good games will have to play them
Wouldn't Doc, Lifeline or Stretcher be more appropriate than Big Bear?
I would have been fooled by the capcom logo and picked up this one over the other game
Yeah it’s one of only a few NES games that they did not develop themselves
I had Wetsuit and Snow Job, took’em apart and made Wetjob and Snowsuit
Love it!
I remember renting this one after liking the original. don't remember much about it outside from the most absurd password system I've ever seen in a videogame. definitely was not feeling it as much as the first game.
Huh I don’t think I ever tried the password!
@@BigOleWords probably one of the most compilcated password screens I've ever seen, at least on NES! *FOURTEEN* grids of nine spaces each it's like the sudoku game of your nightmares!
i thought it was more fun when it was called Low G man.. swear to gosh that looks like the same game.
For sure. It has much more of that single tone look to the stages like ol’ Low G Man
I was checking out the first game on utube .The first one looks better graphics and stages
Real American is a way better game in every way.
Enjoyed your video like always, just want to say that whenever the intro starts, I always gotta sing along to it. I hope you never change it
Haha well people do chime in occasionally to tell me the opposite! I doubt I’ll change it though :)
I've been saying 'check this shit out' to my mom for the past couple of months in the intro's tone of voice. It drives her crazy.
LOL that's pretty great @@maltheopia
@@maltheopia haha that poor woman!
i really doubt no one played this game, it is awesome and was well talked about , anw, i do get the point, but it is indeed a G I JOE game and even i, a kid from a third world country had it as a kid.
but i need to say, forget everything, THE MUSIC OF THE FIRST LEVEL, that is a banger, i keep humming it to myself all the time.
Shatterhand is talked about a lot now, people have realized how awesome the game is. Also Big Ole Words really likes Kickmaster.
I did have Ninja Gaiden and it was given to me by the first girl I was ever infatuated with so that is a cool memory. I did have some great games in my collection though, too bad my stepdad got rid of them all when I moved out after highschool.
I'm assuming from your name you mean Lebanon? Can I ask did the NES games look the same as the ones I show at the beginning? I don't know anything about video games from that part of the world.
The best part came at 10:15 IYKYK
Haha hope you like it!
G.I. Joe - The Power Up Factor, or G I. Joe The Door Factor 🤔
Power up factor for sure!
I played this, it's hard as fuck. I beat the first one, but I still have never beat this one, even on an emulator.
It definitely is much much easier on emulation but I guess everything is ;)
@@BigOleWords I did beat the first one on the actual cartridge, and rented this one a few times back when rental stores still existed.
Give 'Im the stick...DON'T GIVE 'IM THE STICK!! OOOOOOOOOOOOO
The fuck are you kids doing on my ice
I finally invested in gi joe a real american hero and gi joe the atlantis factor for the Nintendo entertainment system
Nice!
Thanks
I liked the first one better. This one was too complex for its own good
Agreed!
this title is a lie. iplayed the fuck out ov this. rock and roll. snake eyes and other! thats the team to use in any situation.
Sounds like you're talking about Real American Hero not Atlantis Factor!
fine be pedantic. roadblock looks NOTHING like rockandroll. statement still stands on all counts but claim victory on technicality USA!
Yeah and I kinda did that with Roadblock and Storm Shadow, especially when I realized the end was near.
Nice. Did not know this one existed!
I had fun beating real American hero. I got rocked a good number of times until I figured the key to beating the game is powering up snake eyes weapons and life bar, fully as his projectile weapon does not use ammo. Once you do that its easy to get through the stages and power every one else up.
Fun Fact: Guile made Stormshadow's sword on Celebrity Forged in Fire.
Tell me more…
@BigOleWords oh, this isn't a real fact.
Ooof sorry to hear that bud. Hoping it’s a quick “recovery” for ya :)
@@BigOleWords thank you.
Best NES reviews on youtube, keep it up king!
Hey thanks player!
You are correct. I didn't play this game. But I played the first one by Taxan a lot. That was pretty good, and the soundtrack slapped.
The GI Joe games are ones I only barely played back in the day to say I played them. HAHA I didn't have the patience to really try all that hard but they did look cool, especially with all the playable characters they had. Very nice!
I 0layed it back 8n the day. Yet. Just like turtles, i got my ass handed to me!!!! Just need to reply it again to see if ive improved since then!😂
I played it.
And a Mr. Show intro? Subbed.
My favorite thing about the intro is that it pulls the Mr show fans out of the woodwork ;)
I always wanted an NES transformers game growing up. In my 20s I discovered they did one in Japan and it sucked. lol
Rest in peace the days when there was a new video every Tuesday morning. Now we get it when we get it I guess. Long live SNES drunk. watched his new video this morning. And it was awesome!
If I could stop making these videos so damn long I could probably get back to that schedule!
Too bad.
Yep totally agree!
I was happy when I played this game and saw that they put Big Bear in it.
In the comics Big Bear had a side kick named the Tiblisi Twink. The Tiblisi Twink had a leathal confetti cannon that always reminded me of Rip Taylor.
Are you serious ? I googled it and all I can find are gay guides for Tblisi Georgia.
Hahahahaha no! No way!
You got a mention on the red cow arcade RUclips channel today.
Oh word? That’s awesome
There was a bug with snake eyes in this game. As long as you got 1 of each power up and used a pw, it would always max out his stats (at least on the cart I played on).
1:12 ok first comment is, I am pretty sure I played part 1. Pretty sure we beat it with the help of the Nintendo power magazine back then.
I had this snake eyes version of the figure (1990) that's displayed in the cover, my favorite GI Joe.
One complaint as kid between the first and second game ... The first game you can get into vehicles .... You can't do that in the second game.
5:17 this looks like a goonies kind of arcade game I’ve been trying to figure out what it is was. With rats
These games were hard but it did make you want to go out and buy more GI JOE. I liked them.
They couldn’t give us Ninja Force Scarlet in ether of these games?
Right?’
Recently found your channel, love the vids.
Awesome, glad you dig em!
Heck Yeah! I got this game, too. Fun and challenging, but the other one is the better game in my opinion.
Oh, and the Joe's are definitely terrorists.
Hahaha yes they are! Atlantis is an autonomous nation dammit!
If I would have known that they even existed as a kid I would have had them. Really poor marketing on them back in the day.
Agree with most of the criticisms said here and also with it being a good game but the original was better -- but man did this game have perhaps the WORST password system I could fathom, with the letters and the cubed blocks in certain places. Absolute dogshit 🤣
I didn’t use it at all but looking at it now, woof!
Actually me and Moe used to play this. After we played the hell out of the first one, we were more than ready for it. Bit of a disappointment.
Body massage....It makes sense the games were developed by the same company, its weird how one is taxan and ones capcom though. Especially since the capcom one is inferior. I always liked the Joe, ShipWreck. He's the one liner snapping sailor very much akin to a Bruce Campbell. Great vids man and a good couple of games.
It says Capcom because they just published the game.
Oooof glad Shipwreck wasn't a playable character!
r/brandnewsentence content: Storm Shadow's gameplay sprite looks like Frozone.
Mr. Body Massage Machine Gooooooo!
I played this and beat with different groups.
Nice!
Glad someone is talking about this game. Love it.
Both Joe games are worth playing for sure
I played this multiple times plus is that a rule of Capcoms to have small character graphics in every Nes capcom game?
played the hell out of this on
You know, there are so many guys doing this kind of thing but your channel really stands out. I like it a lot.
It’s like Highlander, there can be only one so I’ve gotta cut off all their heads and steal their RUclips powers
But isn't Storm Shadow a snake?, why is he helping the Joes?
I do not know enough about Joe lore to tell ya!
