Ioannina seems like a very nice place to live but we didn't love it as tourists....we also didn't go to the canyon so our rating isn't real :)
4:13 It is not burek. Its called Bugatsa and it a traditional northern Greek dish
Broke in the EU doesn't sound like much fun.
@chriseco7197 tbh the EU isnt much fun
Wow two rude ignorant souls
In Greece, it is against the law to give rides to people unless you have a license as a professional driver, taxi driver or travel agent. they are fined for this.
The two most disrespectful “travel vloggers” on youtube, they go to every country do nothing and get disappointed, well what a surprise
It's like you watched every video we have made 🥲

They just put this kind of video tittle so they will take attention of the people but they end up hatred of people. Cheap tactic.
I loved it and recommend it! Perama cave was fantastic
One of the most picturesque cities in one of the most beautiful areas of Greece with lots of students, history, culture and a lake with a f*cking inhabited island in the middle. Cannot imagine how boring one must be to get bored in Ioannina in less than three days as a tourist.
We are very dull
We found the best nightlife, total safety, ... the best and NO huge crowds. Hotel people were sooooo nice and hotel breakfast? Eat as much as you want for NO extra.
@@HaleyandZach You mean very stupid
Ioannina is among the top destinations for us Greeks beacuse of the Vikos gorge, the amazingly picturesque villages that are out of the city, the little island inside the lake, the Dodoni theatre (which is the oldest oracle/theatre in Greece) and the food. You just stayed in town doing nothing so of course it was disappointing.
We wish we had time to see the gorge
Not the city's problem that you suck at planning trips lmao
I would really like to be constructive here , echoing some of the previous comments about not having any interest in the history or the beauty spots, but I doubt I will.
Because of your lack of reading up b4 hand, you just trashed one of the most unique locations within Greece. No it's not full of whitewashed houses or the stereotypes you may be used to , but it is full of museums, history and natural beauty. Also if a Greek couple turned up in a Western country eg the USA, would bus drivers pity them and give them a free ride? I don't think so. U2 went 2 an impoverished country in the midst of an evil economic crisis and sanctions by the EU and freeloaded. Shame on u.

You took a bus to go where? You came in a country that euro is the currency and you say that you have only albanian lek, what you expect a currency exchange in the middle of nowhere? You blame the owner of the hostel that he was not there, why didn't you reserve a room in a hotel where there are staff personnel 24/7? You call bougatsa and cheesepie "burek". You focused in ottoman and hebrew past of the city, without saying that the current mayor is a Jewish and the ottomans were occupied the land and have the greek population under slavery for almost 400 years (until 1913). Your judgement is not of so importance, but just a prejudice. Ioannina is one of the most beautiful places in Greece and destination and you better know it.

The cheapest tourists I have ever seen.
Beyond that, how do you expect such tourists to criticize a city!
You went in a city you never knew by accident, stayed for one day and searched nothing. I love my homeland. It was pretty obvious by the disrespectful title you didn't see anything at all. Go to the coastal areas like all tourists do and watch the sea for the rest of your time there (that's pretty amazing apparently) and leave the interesting places for the rest. Dislike.

Obviously we respect your opinion but let's say it's surprising to me. For tourists pov maybe it's not the best city because if it was it would be famous. But for Greeks it's a really nice getaway from bigger cities like Athens and Salonica. It has the lake with the tiny island in the middle, nice nature, green lush parks and snowcapped mountains in winter. Also it is walkable and has great nightlife because there is a Greek Uni and lots of young people. Also ottoman structures and architecture, the castle and a couple of museums give a nice interesting touch to the city's vibes.
PS: I would be very happy if Ioannina was the worst Greek city. And you will see it with your eyes too.
At the end of the video I said our rating should not even count because we missed so much of what the city and surrounding area has to offer. Thank you for writing such a detailed comment :)

at least you ate quality food for the first time as humans, didn't you...
People in HELLAS (Greece) are ever friendly and supportive. Ioannina is the best for cheese, yogurt, pies/ pites... Awesome for music. Sensational for culture, dancing, parties... Greece expensive to visit? You must be nuts. We found it the cheapest of the many nations we visited. Bougatsa. NOT Burek, is a sweet and varies a little every where you go so it is a MUST enjoy delight. Canyon? You mean Zagori? Vikos Gorge? You passed it on your left as you came from 'Albania" which itself is one third Hellenic/ Greece. Bottom 1/3. You missed out on the great sensational nightlife and partying. The brilliant beaches like Parga nearby...
albania isnt one third hellenic greece lol are you dumb

Pogatsa is actually a Byzantine dough. Ioanina is the city of jewellery makers. Bvlgari and other jewellery makers originate from there.
There are many attractions in Ionina like 1. Vikos - Aoos National Park · 2. Ioannina Castle · 3. Lake Pamvotis · 4. Silversmithing Museum 5 Panorama cave etc
Bougatsa is mmmmmmmmmmm. My wife fell in love with it.
orthodox is 4% of world religions
The byrek with sweet cream is called Bougatsa and is served with cinnamon and powdered sugar.
What do you expect from broke backpackers....you need a bit of quid to travel. You get what you get for being unprepared and seemingly broke. Be honest about your reviews and ...grow up...
Both prejudiced from the moment you crossed the border. Not to mention that you didn't do your homework before go Ioannina at all.I hope you didn't call Gyros "Kebab"....but whatever!!
Ioannina is considered a beautiful city, there are much worse cities in northern Greece were there are nothing else but apartment buildings and a bunch of coal mines polluting the region. Don't expect every greek city to be like Athens, I've lived all my life in northern Greece and I haven't seen a single ancient greek ruin here
Yeah most of northern Greece is so boring and nothing like southern Greece (except for some cities like thessaloniki, Kavala, Ioannina etc)

Regarding the Arabic inscription: Indeed Greece has occupied for many centuries by the Ottomans. Especially the region of Epirus (Ioannina is the capital was even longer part of the Ottoman and actually a commercial hub). The Turks changed the alphabet used, only a century ago, before that Turkish was written in Arabic alphabet.
not true. Epirus was the last region to fall to the ottomans while areas like the Aegean islands and thrace was much longer under ottoman rule. Epirus was much less affected culturally than most parts of Greece. The clock has Arabic because of the alphabet as you said and because it was obviously constructed during the ottoman era
@@Ezio2713 correct
greece was for millenium roman and then there was centuries of slavic invasions. You overestimate the turks in greece as most of the so called ottoman pashas were albanians
They do it for views and comments the title but also Iωάννινα is a small town compare the big towns of Europe. And the more the people the most attractive a town becomes.J like Ιωάννινα especialy in the winter.
I'm from Athens, Ioannina is actually quite pretty by the lake with all the coffee shops. The castle is also pretty cool, and the central commercial area with the pedestrian streets. I visit Ioannina now and then, but yeah I wouldnt cross the Atlantic to go to see Ioannina. Nevertheless Ioannina can be a pleasant stop-over while visiting other destinations nearby. You could throw in Ioannina while visiting the following:
During the Summer: Lefkada or Corfu Island, Parga (very beautiful seaside village with lots of swimming), brief stop at Arta, and finally go to Ioannina.
Spring, Autumn, Winter: Larissa City, Elati Village, Meteora (monasteries on top of wonky rocks, very epic), Ioannina, and Metsovo area (lots of beautiful villages and sports like paragliding, cayak in rivers).
Finally the arabic letters are actually Ottoman Turkish. The castle was built by the Ottomans back in the 17-18th century. Stay safe.
This people are very boring, Next time bring your money.cheap people.
I think you scare of people for going to this place. While Ioannina is an great city and I think people should visit it.
And btw You call it Burek crème, but it’s called bougatsa

@@vasiliyt8600 It was all Epirus was Albanian and native people spoke Albanian before you exchanged with anatolians Greeks
@@Albanesegotti
Epirus was *NEVER* "Albanian", but Greek.
Greek was always the Language that was & is spoken in Epirus. The ancient Hellenic Religion was the only religion that the Epirotes followed, until their Christianization, in early middle ages. The Christian Church in whole Epirus was and is written & spoken in the Greek language, since the early middle ages to the modern times we live today.
Ancient artefacts, ancient monuments, ancient graves, ancient manuscripts, during the early and later byzantine time period, all those historical places were written in Greek. Culture, music, tradition, money was & is the same with the rest of the Greek people. Even with the Greeks in Southern Italia (Magna Grecia) don't differ from them.
Epirus was always mentioned as a Greek region. By ancient, classic and medieval Greek and foreign historians.
All that is verified scientific knowledge by hundreds of renowned universities all over the globe, that have researched this region.
Even today, most of northern Epirus (currently part of south Albania) is inhabited mostly by Greeks. The region where the racist Albanian government is currently *stealing* the property of the Greek Epirotes and keeping the Greek mayor illegally in custody.
The racist Propaganda you are writing was created, *not long ago* ,by Ultranationalist Albanian politicians.
If your country won't stop with that state racism, Albania won't be never be a part of the European Union. Mark my words. Racist propaganda has no place in Europe anymore.

They were maybe not prepared but some of these comments don’t make you look good.

This is a different point of view! These people actually did the effort of researching before.
We had a good time in Greece, the people were great so we had a positive experience ourselves and found it affordable...it probably also helped that we learned the language of the country to be fair though (we are English and knew no Greek before we traveled there but researched it in advance).
I would recommend this, even just a few basic phrases can open up peoples hearts and improve the vibe of a place you visit. Good luck on your travels! 🙂
