This whole storyline with the conflict about Chandler and Kathy is one of my favorite Chandler plots. It's really sweet to see Chandler find someone who he clicks with and it's heartbreaking that Joey met her first.

Messiness can be very correlated with anxiety/depression. You can either be a neat freak, or the mess gradually accumulates and is then overwhelming to deal with. You don't know where to start so you don't.
This. There have been so many times for me it's got so bad - my kitchen always suffers the most. It starts off with just having no energy to do much more than survive day to day, then it gets to the point I walk in, see the mess, and walk out immediately cursing my own laziness and inability to do simple tasks, which in turn makes me more depressed. It's a vicious cycle. For me it's usually broken by a manic cleaning phase which normally happens at ridiculous times like 3am. Not healthy at all. I'm trying to manage it, but still find myself slipping.

Absolutely. I've just recently started coming out of a 20 year chronic depression, and one of the big changes I made to help me get back on track with my life was hiring a cleaning company to deal with the accumulated mess that I had never been able to deal with myself. No longer having the stress of all that mess has gone a long way to improve my mental health.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Joey just doesn't care enough about Kathy. We saw what he was like with Kate from the play so when he genuinely cares he's actually really sweet. Also, you know what I find more hilarious than Joey's ex not having a birthday for 3 years? The fact that Joey was in a relationship with ONE woman for 3 YEARS 😆 I feel like hoarders don't necessarily want it to be that way, things just get out of control and they don't know how to handle it. I'm not this bad but I understand a lot more how it can turn out that way because my mental health has made it difficult for me to get "simple" things done, like doing laundry and even washing myself. It's usually mental health or trauma related. But fun fact: The kitchen where Monica and Phoebe are working for the funeral is the same kitchen used for Monica and Ross's parents' house.
This era in Ross and Rachel's friendship/relationship is so funny. Like yeah they're being super petty toward each other, but it's less divisive for the group dynamic than when they initially broke up. Episode 5 is one of my favorites for this dynamic, particularly the phone number on the napkin and Rachel's boyfriend stealing from her lol

I struggle with keeping things clean. For me it's a weird thing about taking the time/effort for a small mess vs waiting until it's bad enough to do an overhaul and dedicate some time to cleaning.
ADHD-er here. A mess of that sort is my natural habitat. Maybe not to that extend cause this was extreme but yeah, it's pretty natural - even though I actually hate mess and prefer Monica's immaculateness. To answer your hoarding question, my grandad began hoarding when my nan passed away. For him we figured it was a thrill, like an addiction, as well as a distraction from being alone. Now he's in a care home and we're left with 4 garages he rents which are full front to back with things he's found at car boot sales (basically massive second hand sales where a load of people show up with things they want to get rid of). So there can be so many triggers. I think it's very individual.

I worked for a hoarder for 4 years. It was worse than that girl. She was at that point where she would claim "I know where everything is". But she so often would go on a tirade looking for stuff she could not find. Other times would claim someone stole something. I still look back and wonder how well I kept my cool for that long. People would come up and ask me how I could deal with the smell.
While I'm not very well versed on hoarding and the psychology behind it (that stuff is more of my mom's forte and interest), I do find myself struggling to make space in my phone's photo gallery, or to get rid of papers and books of mine due to me getting so attatched to them that I can't let them go. So, I hope that this helps you understand!😊❤
I think season 4 was and still is my favorite season of the 10 season of Friends and episode 12 of season 4 will always be my all time favorite of ALL of the 230 episodes of Friends. BTW .. don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but during season 4 and running over into season 5 Lisa Kudrow was IRL pregnant.
I had this weird phenomenon where I was ill so my throat was a bit rough, and I ended up sounding like I had an Irish accent for a few days due to... I don't even know how. I was in my teens and it was highly amusing to me at the time though. 😅
My freshman roomate was similar to Ross’ date, and I’ve never been with someone as messy as her. I was so close to moving out, but I stuck with it and pulled through until the end of the year😅 (we were also pretty good friends, so it would’ve been hard to find another roomate)
I always hated the dirty apartment scenes. Im lazy, but im not THAT kind of lazy. Thats just 🤢. My lazy is clothes not bein put away, some dishes in the sink (rinsed and ready to be washed) and kids toys. NEVER food and trash like that
On the other hand, i LOVE kathy, she was my favorite for how much she had in common with chandler. And didnt even judge joey or chandler for their lack of things at home because of the robbery.
A lot of people don't hoard because they like it- sometimes things just accumulate over time, especially during times of stress and then the people become so overwhelmed because they don't even know where to start to clear the mess around them so they just leave it. For other people, they keep things because they have trouble letting go and see sentimental value in their belongings.

I'm a bit of a hoarder, but this?? This isn't just not being able to throw away things and so the house looks clustered, she doesn't even clean! That's on another level.
Also hoarding tendencies here. It's under control at the moment, but in the past mine has also been trash, like Ross's girlfriend. But it wasn't because I liked it, it happened because I felt resentful that I was now supposed to be responsible for all the trash that was coming in or being generated, so I pretended it didn't exist until it got too big to pretend about, but also too big to take care of myself. Believe me, there was no comfort in the mess, and I don't think there is for most hoarders - there's usually something else going on underneath, and the mess is just an outward symptom. Luckily I had a couple of my own Monicas who came over, saw how I needed help, and selflessly gave it to me. Out of respect for their time and efforts I've been able to keep things in order ever since.
I know no one will get this reference but I've been playing Killer Frequency on the VR and Rachel's new boyfriend sounds like a mix between two "characters" in the game: the frat bros (obvs) and Roller Ricky. lol

I struggle with keeping things clean. For me it's a weird thing about taking the time/effort for a small mess vs waiting until it's bad enough to do an overhaul and dedicate some time to cleaning.
ADHD-er here. A mess of that sort is my natural habitat. Maybe not to that extend cause this was extreme but yeah, it's pretty natural - even though I actually hate mess and prefer Monica's immaculateness.
I myself also believe that the way we keep our apartments somewhat mirrors our inner life and how "organised" our personalities are.

To answer your hoarding question, my grandad began hoarding when my nan passed away. For him we figured it was a thrill, like an addiction, as well as a distraction from being alone. Now he's in a care home and we're left with 4 garages he rents which are full front to back with things he's found at car boot sales (basically massive second hand sales where a load of people show up with things they want to get rid of).
So there can be so many triggers. I think it's very individual.

Usually with hoarders, it is difficult for them to let go of things, even if they are meaningless.
I worked for a hoarder for 4 years. It was worse than that girl. She was at that point where she would claim "I know where everything is". But she so often would go on a tirade looking for stuff she could not find. Other times would claim someone stole something. I still look back and wonder how well I kept my cool for that long. People would come up and ask me how I could deal with the smell.

While I'm not very well versed on hoarding and the psychology behind it (that stuff is more of my mom's forte and interest), I do find myself struggling to make space in my phone's photo gallery, or to get rid of papers and books of mine due to me getting so attatched to them that I can't let them go. I think season 4 was and still is my favorite season of the 10 season of Friends and episode 12 of season 4 will always be my all time favorite of ALL of the 230 episodes of Friends. BTW .. don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but during season 4 and running over into season 5 Lisa Kudrow was IRL pregnant.

I had this weird phenomenon where I was ill so my throat was a bit rough, and I ended up sounding like I had an Irish accent for a few days due to... I don't even know how. I was in my teens and it was highly amusing to me at the time though. 😅

My freshman roomate was similar to Ross’ date, and I’ve never been with someone as messy as her. I was so close to moving out, but I stuck with it and pulled through until the end of the year😅 (we were also pretty good friends, so it would’ve been hard to find another roomate)

I always hated the dirty apartment scenes. Im lazy, but im not THAT kind of lazy. Thats just 🤢. My lazy is clothes not bein put away, some dishes in the sink (rinsed and ready to be washed) and kids toys. NEVER food and trash like that

A lot of people don't hoard because they like it- sometimes things just accumulate over time, especially during times of stress and then the people become so overwhelmed because they don't even know where to start to clear the mess around them so they just leave it. For other people, they keep things because they have trouble letting go and see sentimental value in their belongings.

I'm a bit of a hoarder, but this?? This isn't just not being able to throw away things and so the house looks clustered, she doesn't even clean! That's on another level.
Also hoarding tendencies here. It's under control at the moment, but in the past mine has also been trash, like Ross's girlfriend. But it wasn't because I liked it, it happened because I felt resentful that I was now supposed to be responsible for all the trash that was coming in or being generated, so I pretended it didn't exist until it got too big to pretend about, but also too big to take care of myself. Believe me, there was no comfort in the mess, and I don't think there is for most hoarders - there's usually something else going on underneath, and the mess is just an outward symptom. Luckily I had a couple of my own Monicas who came over, saw how I needed help, and selflessly gave it to me. Out of respect for their time and efforts I've been able to keep things in order ever since.
