I love how the creators of the mod weren't afraid to take their own creative liberties.
+Omar Asfari They really didn't change much. It's mostly a beat-by-beat recreation of the original game.
All the creative liberties are mostly to make the areas more realistic and believable. They do a great job of it like adding all the extra parts for the dam to make it a functional area.
No doubt the Black Mesa is a complete overhaul in every way possible! But in the original lies the nostalgia, and Black Mesa, one of the best remakes of all time.
And it's a remake created by fans, which is impressing in itself considering the quality of the product. Really looking forward to the XEN part and the Multiplayer.

+Mr.Pickle255 The game is excellent but I'm so enraged because of the corrupted save file. I got the laser gun and went for final base and there was a helicopter. I had no time to do it so I saved and closed. I opened it after sometime and the lasergun is not there in my arsenal. I had to repeat 2 fucking hours of work. But the graphics and physics are gorgeous. Imagine a HL2 remake with source 2.......

As this person said, Black Mesa stays true to the original style and tries to make it feel like your playing Half-Life still. I didn't get the same feeling with Lambda. Then again carmack is a genius. Even doom 3 aged very well. although that game came out in 2004. it still amazing. but that is what you get if carmack is making the game and engine. that guy is a genius when it comes to programming. point is it wont matter how old the game is. it can still hold up to this day. half life had some parts that are really really outdated at this point. but thats because of the source engine. its not the best engine out there.

Low vs Ultra Grafikeinstellungen kann ich auch selbst ganz einfach nachschauen, wenn ich ins Grafikmenü gehe, aber bei Mods, die ewig installiert und konfiguriert werden müssen, geht das nicht so leicht.
Würde mich echt über mehr Vanilla vs Mod freuen ^^ Grade bei Fallout, Dragon Age, GTA oder Gothic/Risen bieten sich bei sowas an.

+EN EF it happend in 2013 when they patched the game for linux and gave the project to one single guy who has barely ever played hl 1. First he forced hd models to always be enabled and also deleted one important command for scripting. and yes bhop scripts are quite essential in hl because the game has 0 support for bhop timing and still it benefits a lot from permanent bhopping. However, about 2 month later there was a patch again that allowed to disable the hd models but yeah... its stupid. also the folder structure is extremly messed up now... you could always easily replace all modelfiles and so on in the past... Honestly why would you have to DISABLE it. - the hd models are not even made by valve, they dont belong as a basesetting into the game. Also the HQ models (in mp-settings) are still disabled by default and those were in the game already when it shipped 1998. (They have a lot more poly than the default playermodels)
So the default setting is low poly playermodels and high poly weaponmodels which don't belong to the game. this is not made better by the fact that the 16:9 support of the game cuts away the bottom and top of the screen which is making the game look even more retarted.... try default_fov 105 //end of rage

Doesn't feel right having high poly models with a low poly map. Would honestly prefer non hd as all the models were made by valve and it fits well with the rest of the map in my opinion.

***** das ist falsch es war eine Gruppe von Fans, die sich zusammen geschlossen haben weil sie nicht mit dem Ergebnis von Half-Life: Source (2004) nicht zufrieden wahren. Zwischen 2004 - 2012 wurde die Mod entwickelt, abschnitt Xen fehlt bis jetzt und wird nachgereicht (irgendwann). Valve hat den Entwicklern auch geholfen (vermutlich Finanziell). Die Mod könnt ihr übrigens kostenlos auf: www.blackmesasource.com/ herunterlanden zum spielen wird aber steam und Source SDK Base 2007 benötigt

Valve hat die Mod ja nicht entwickelt, es waren die Fans die von Half Life: Source total enttäuscht waren da das spiel praktisch eine eins zu eins Kopien des Originals Spiels war mit total veraltetet Texturen. Ursprünglich sollte die Mod auch Black Mesa Source heißen, Valve forderte von den entwickelt den Name "Source" zu entfernen was insgesamt von Valve sehr tolerant war.

hl1-> atmosphere + sound+ industrial design. BMS -> lots of polygons + rocket supported by wooden pole (good job) =D

Sure Black Mesa has better graphics, but in terms of gameplay, I've had more fun with the original Half Life. Also, I liked the original's sound effects and soundtrack better. The HECU Soliders and the VOX also sounds better in the original.
I would say that Black Mesa is better, but they decided to slightly change the map layouts and the placement of things. And the original has a spot in my heart so I'm saying that the original is better.

Wow! I remember playing HL in the Christmas of 1998 and thinking how amazing the graphics were. How things have changed, still this game had some of the best AI, dare I say even to this day.

Better than most games. When I play the marines will throw grenades and try to flank you while your in cover and stop to shoot when you pop out, and if your about to win a fight with a vort they will ocasianly flee. Bullsquids, hound eyes and head crabs act like wild animals (which they are)

"bald" kommt Black Mesa auf Steam, dort wird die Grafik nochmal komplett überarbeitet sein, neue Animationen, Models, Effekte und Levels angepasst. Komplett auf eine modernere Source Engine portiert. Ich hoffe (und schätze mal) dass ihr dann auch ein Vergleichsvideo macht :D

na gut was heißt bei dir "bald". und außerdem sehe ich ne rafinierte Taktik dahinter. Valve läd das ganze zeug nochmal verschönert hoch. das selbe war auch mit half-life 2: update. jetzt kommt die Taktik: da die meisten leute Half-life mit viel nostalgie in verbindung bringen könnte man niemals einen nachfolger entwickeln der befreidigend wirken würde. deswegen lässt man die leute die alten teile nochmal spielen um dennen die nostalgie ein wenig zu nehmen. damit sie auch realistischer den dritten teil beruteilen.

Half-Life 1 still looks damn nice. I mean, the colors, the atmosphere, the aesthetics. Of course the boxy look sucks, but that's another thing. I always thought that the feel of Half-Life is given by the washed down, gritty, worn off, rusty look of the compound. It just made the place look like it's been active since a long time and makes it somehow more real this way. They have conducted hundreds of experiments, everything was just another day at work, but today... today is special. Thank you Valve. You added some magic to my already magical childhood, and still do. Every year I play this again, and it feels magic, still, and that's awesome!

Is Black Mesa the same game as Half Life, if so, why is it called Black Mesa instead?
Tommy Randall Black Mesa is a stand alone mod which has been developed by a separate modding team that has nothing to do with Valve.

Tommy Randall Yes the levels are the same, but not identical, since they rebuilt the levels and not just modded existing ones.

Tommy Randall well, it is much more than just that obviously. The maps are completly rebuild and sometimes very different. Movement and weapon behavior are extremly different aswell. It is certainly a good game but ofc there are also several good things from half life left behind

I know I'm 2 years late but you should've done this comparison using the best quality version of the game, being the PS2, or the unreleased Dreamcast port if you wish. They have better and more HD maps, models, textures and more, or if you were looking to stick to the PC version I'd recommend using the Dreamcast mod. Either way still a good comparison video.

I cannot see how people say that HL 1 is > BM . HL 1 was a game that was released 20 years ago , the mechanics and graphics are very shit by today's standard . , I can still however appreciate that HL 1 was revolutionary and set very high standards to the genre.

Half-Life (CD): Nice menu interface. Camera tilts when strafing. My favourite version.
Half-Life (Steam): Different menu than the CD version (I prefer the CD's menu). Camera does not tilt when strafing. Also allows HD models.
Black Mesa: Upgraded graphics, new areas, more than 4 scientist models. The music is different though I prefer the original
Half-Life's music.
Half-Life Source: Almost the same as the Steam Half-Life, except with ragdolls and different water. My least favourite version.
Also, Half-Life fanbase in a nutshell:
Half-Life: Source gets released: OMG DIS IZ JUST HAFL-LIEF BUT WIT RAGDOLS AND BETTA WATER!!!!11one

hl:source also got upgraded to orange box version of source so my reaction was like:
