  • Recently my toilet had been running water longer than normal. So I decided to fix it myself. Here's what I did to adjust the toilet tank water level.

    *For people commenting about my hands being in the way. Pay close attention to **1:50** that should be clear enough for you to figure out what I'm doing behind my humungous hands. I don't have a toilet tank cutout or transparent tank to show you any better.*
    It can also be the flapper (rubber piece at the bottom of the tank) that is causing the toilet to run. If you look in the tank and see bubbles coming from that area that means the flapper needs replacing or is improperly set. Make sure to find one that closely matches the original otherwise you could have problems with the new flapper.

      You've got the exact same toilet bowl as mine. Why do you pull out the shaft at the bottom instead of unscrewing / screwing with a screwdriver? Does it make a difference? I use a screwdriver to adjust it, but never seem to get it right.

    See the screw slats at the top of the part he is holding? Just stick a screwdriver in there & turn it. One way is water up, the other way is water down. Don't break your plastic parts by pulling on them.

      @@bloodybones63 Absolutely right. The slots in the top of the rod are there for a reason. Plus the circumference of the rod head is grooved to provide a good grip, so you can turn the rod with your fingers if a screwdriver isn’t handy. By the way, rotating the rod counterclockwise raises the water level, and vice versa.

    What if I’ve adjusted the FluidMaster to increase water level in tank(not bowl) and in half an hour, the tank water level has gone down to half. The flapper that closes completely when toilet is flushed , locks into place & water begins to fill tank…it has no obstructions …I cannot see nor hear any water leakage but the tank goes down to half full, like it has leaked. What else can I do please? Thank you kindly!

    • @GodlessManitoban
      @GodlessManitoban  Год назад +1

      I'm not a plumber but two things, one it could be the flapper still because these flappers develop bubbles sometimes. There is no quick fix for it either. Two, it could be an exhaust fan causing it too. I've found if I run my exhaust fan(s) quite a bit the water level drops by itself.

    • @PRESTO5796

      @GodlessManitoban - Thanks for answering! The flapper is barely a year old and in good shape! I adjusted the white plastic ring at the bottom of valve assembly. Tank fills up to proper level but an hour later, tank is half full. No sounds of leaking. Then a few hours later, I can hear the water filling up the tank again. I don't have an exhaust fan in my bathroom! I will end up calling a pro 🫤But I appreciate your reply, Sir!

    Hi there, First, the tank fill control unit looks like a Fluidmaster brand. I have installed and worked with several. I think that you can use a Phillip's screwdriver in the top of the piece that you call the 'rod' to adjust the water level. By the way, large hands mean a generous and kind heart. One of my best Forever Friends has large hands. Don't let them put you down for those hands . .

    • @GodlessManitoban
      @GodlessManitoban  3 года назад

      Yes it is a Fluidmaster and yes a screwdriver works too. But I do not own the toilet, I rent an apartment. So I was trying to avoid snapping that "rod" or whatever it is really called.

    • @GodlessManitoban

      Yes you can use a Phillips head (star) screwdriver (depending on the brand of fill valve). Counter clockwise decreases the level of water and clockwise increases the level of water. Small adjustments can be good to tell which way is which. I'd recommend being gentle with the screwdriver.

    • @GodlessManitoban

      I'm not a plumber but if adjusting the water level causes it to flow into the pipe then it might be set to high. If setting it lower doesn't work you may need a new flush valve. If it was the flapper you'd see air bubbles coming from around the flapper.

      Does it have a screwhead on the top? Just adjust it slightly clockwise or counter clockwise.

    I think my tank might be too low and not enough flow to properly flush. I think this will help. Took forever to find a to the point video. Thanks, I’m going to try this.

    Great video! Unless I'm mistaken, could you not simply use a screwdriver on the top of what is essentially a long plastic screw- counter clockwise for less water, clockwise for more.

      No you're not mistaken, but I didn't want to wreck the plastic screw since this was in a rental.

    you dont have to disconnect that plastic screw leave it on and just turn counter clock wise the screw until it satisfies your problem.

      I know that a screwdriver could be used. I didn't want to take a chance that the plastic would snap.

    Thank you for this video. I fixed my new toilet. It wasn’t adjusted correctly by the installers and the toilet would sometimes run without stopping.
