  • Removing the handle scales of the Rough Ryder HIGHLAND BOWIE KNIFE. To reveal a Dirty Little Secret. They Lied! It's NOT full-tang. "Fraud" WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! I contacted Rough Ryder by Email and told them my concerns and that I suspected it wasn’t really full-tang and I never got a response,... so here is truth about this knife.

    Thanks for the reveal! All you guys that got stiffed on this turkey might consider contacting your state attorney general's office; they have a division that investigates consumer fraud, and yes enticing you to buy a product through false advertising about what it is, IS A CRIME! Also there's a safety issue that makes it even worse than just you losin' $. The AG can put the seller on the hot seat - Either refund everybody's $, pay a substantial fine OR, well you can guess the other unpleasant option! The sneaky seller is banking on folks not wanting the hassle of instigating legal action and just writing it off as a stupid buy, but hey, give 'em a surprise - Rat the Bastards out! RUclips reveal good, but it won't stop the con; only the Man can do that!! And like you say Joe, it's a nice design so why not build it right instead of cuttin' corners? Guess we know the answer: Stuff made in a far distant Land!

    It's amazing how much work was put into that piece work assembly. Gotta think it'd be cheaper to build it full tang, eh. But I guess that's what you get sometimes from ultra-cheap labor. Thanks for the video JD.

      I agree. The knife is beautiful. There is No Way it could be cheaper to pull this stunt. I’ve found out that most of the Rambo 5 “Heart Stopper” knives have ridiculous nonsense like this hidden inside the handle scales. I refuse to purchase them because of it. Plus they are way overpriced, cheap steel. I gotta admit, I don’t like it when companies Skeletonize the tang of a knife and claim it’s to save on weight. I would rather the knife was heavier and a bit less balanced but was an unbreakable work horse. Oh well,… it usually comes down to money. Whatever it takes to save a penny at the customers expense. Rough Ryder lost all future business from me.

      i have a rough rider drop point bowie... i watched this vid and examined my blade more closely... i welded the guard to the blade and the handle... now when i bang it on wood (i had already thoroughly tested it and it only showed cracks between the handle and guard where the "full tang" is seen from the front and back) it does not clink, but produces a solid sound. now i have more confidence in the blade than i ever did....it is still a magnificent blade after cleaning the welds up with a grinder, then a variable speed rotor tool... aka dremel.

    @danielrobinson7872 2 года назад +4

    Wow, they really did the consumer dirty. The tang is far too skinny for a blade that big. Now I’m all for stick tangs if they’re done properly but considering this one’s small size and the deceptive construction, there is no redeeming factor on this. For a knife that handsome to be hardly usable outside of light cutting tasks is a damn shame.

But after I show them your video I told them they may want to change the description they have listed as full Tang on their sale on eBay period even after being shown the video evidence they refused to change their description and they told me that they didn't think it was the same knife and they also said that there was defects in the Tang that's why it looked that way not that it was welded so be sure to steer clear of them on eBay because they won't even acknowledge the fact that they got it wrong and they will lie to you to make a sale

    Hey, thanks for doing this video. I have been eyeballing this knife for a couple of years because it looks to be a truly elegant and beautiful fighting/outdoor knife. But I have had my suspicions for some time about whether it was a solid full-tang construction or not. So, thanks for butchering yours, so I don't have to! I may still buy it for kitchen use because of its looks, but I wouldn't trust it for anything else. However, if they took this design and beefed up the tang, sorted the balance issues, and perhaps even used better quality steel, it would be an absolute winner for me.

    Hey Bro,
    It's too bad that it's not really full tang but I do believe with a bit of added strong epoxy, something like G-flex a long with the brass liner, the thick pins,etc.
    It would probably be fine for most reasonable use. The G-flex would definitely help solidify it.
    One thing to consider when thinking about shorter tangs or partial tangs(admittedly, perhaps not quite as short as this one) is that they were actually used historically on both combat knives and swords.
    Many were held on with a short or partial tang with just pitch, Some Indian Talwars and Kukris are examples that immediately come to mind.
    Might be an interesting thing to experiment with instead of throwing it in the trash.

So I contacted SMKW and they never responded either but about 6-8 months later they had it listed as “possibly not”, full tang or something along those lines. Pretty Lame. They should quit selling them. Give them to a carnival booth operator. Like In those “Knife Toss” games! 😂 The knife is beautiful,… but it’s a polished turd. In my humble opinion. Because of my back injury I don’t know when or how I will get to or dig thru my pack-rat of a shed. (It’s a private, lock down shed on the other side of town). As soon as I can I will try to make it happen and I will let you know. Your video about it could spare others the hassle. Several people have thanked me for my video. I was tipped off about it by “Donny B all day”,… anyway, Stay Safe , Stay strong, brother! 👍🏻🤙🏻

      @@sergeantdef.3572 ,… someone told me it somehow speeds up production of a knife because the two different parts can be made at different times or even different factories. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Plus they lied and said it was a full-tang knife. Then they refused to answer my emails or refund my money. I don’t like their service or their company anymore.

      @@sergeantdef.3572 , I agree that it is a potentially Dangerous knife & it bothers me that everyone just ignores this fact and they keep selling it as a full-tang knife, just like You said. There are other companies, that like to skeletonize the tang of their knives and pretend that they are full-tang also. I’m like: make the knives Full-Tang or at least admit that they are Not truly Full-Tang. They need to be honest. Sometimes they say it costs more money to skeletonize a knife tang. Like somehow that makes it OK to do and to lie to their customers.

      John Rossell ,... it’s a real shame. I almost bought a second one this past Friday because they were back in stock at SMKW.com. - I wish companies that sell these products would destruction test a sample before they peddle them on the public considering they buy in huge bulk. Both SMKW & Rough Ryder claimed these were truly Full-Tang knives.
