    love this. did you know that in addition to Mayday comes from M'aider ! sailors with a VHF license would know that there are a few more.. the official "Panpan" used in nautical communications if for example your boat engine isn't working and you need help comes from my boat is " en panne" yep broken. one more if you want to make other boats aware of a safety hazard on the water you use a word also with french origin "sécurité sécurité sécurité.. there is a container floating in the water 1 mile west of st malo harbor... don't crash into it. donc voilà

    La petite pantoufle de verre is a mistake.... the real material and word is "la pantoufle de vair" (a kind of fur or fur lining)... Most French don't know that as the word is not used anymore.... and was already considered as unusual 300 years ago! Some will say that both "verre" and "vair" are acceptable even though I would be surprised to see a young lady dance with glass shoes...

    • @amusingaida
      @amusingaida  3 месяца назад

      Interesting. I didn't know that... and so looked up Wikipedia (in French) and see that it's a 'controverse' left unresolved. There are arguments for and against verre vs vair... and some alternatives.

    Napoleon is tiny, that is a fact 😂. Depends a bit on what is common in your country. People get taller per generation. I am a lot taller than Napoleon, but even I had to climb in a supermarket cooling to get something from the back of the top shelf. TGV is cramped for me, ICE is not. Bumping your head against the awnings of a market is no fun.

      In the 18th century? Not at all! If you're talking about a further 200 years of good diet, medical care and healthy work, it sounds like it. But Napoléon today would be 12cm taller, like everyone else
